The Light in the Mist ~ a visually stunning & challenging puzzle experience ✨ | Spoiler-Free Review

This is a little bit different for us! We love Escape Rooms and how these types of experiences have translated into tabletop experiences. This is not quite an escape room, but a narrative puzzle game that is certainly a brain-workout. It's stunning, and thematic, and we wanted to tell you all about it (well, as much as we could without any spoilers).

Thanks for stopping by for our review of The Light in the Mist! We're Amy & Maggie aka ThinkerThemer. We're an Australian couple with two very different perspectives of what makes a great board game - Amy (Thinker) is all about the mechanics and enjoys tight, competitive games, and Maggie (Themer) is all about the storytelling and the theme of the game, and the 'world' that the designer is trying to create. Subscribe to our channel to hear us talk about these two elements of a game, and how well integrated we feel these are in delivering a cohesive and wonderful game experience.

Currently playing this one with my girlfriend, she somewhat collects Tarot decks, so it was an easy sell :D We're both really loving it. The puzzles are fun and challenging and it's just like you said, some are fairly easy, some we looked at for multiple sessions until we finally got it and in some cases the solution was obvious to her but not to me and vice versa, most of the time it was a joint effort though, where each of us solved a part of the puzzle and that felt great. I think with the way how the human brain works, you just need some distance sometimes. When I was still at university, I starred for hours at some math assignments, once I stopped and got back to them the next day, I had the solution immediately. And this game does the same to you, you gotto take a step back from a puzzle. There's a video game called The Witness, where you're on an open island with 600 puzzles to solve in whichever order you chose and it plays the same way, that you need to take a step back from a puzzle you're really stuck on to come back later and solve it first-try. I wasn't surprised to see Rita Orlov sporting a The Witness micro badge on BGG. Cannot recommend this one enough, we're still about 4-5 Puzzles to go and my girlfriend doesn't want to continue because she doesn't want the game to end.

I like a good puzzle. Actually I love a good puzzle, so I will be doing more research on this. Thanks for the review. BTW, have you played Mouse Cheese Cat Cucumber? It's a quick little puzzle with moving pieces. (If you ever play it, remember to play cards on top of other cards. Very important.)

The game looks beautiful, but not for me, I fear. I just do not get the escape rooms and their ilk. I am terrible at them and everyone that my family has tried has fallen flat for us. Thanks for the video, ladies!
