A truly nice bloke. The landlord at the Saracens Head in Daventry which had live bands every weekend back in the early 90's said he was mates with Cozy Powell and said he would get him to play, needless to say we were skeptical but true to his word got him to come he came and sat in with the band and played a whole set for free. Not many rock legends would do that. RIP Cozy.

Attended his blue plaque opening in Cirencester in 2016. Fellow musicians Brian May, Suzi Quatro, Carl Palmer, and Tony Iommi were all there celebrating Cozy’s life and drumming skills. I wore my Emerson Lake and Powell badge which was acknowledged by Carl when I spoke to him. It was such honour to be there and I will never forget this day.

It should be mentioned that its thanks to Cozy we have Donington Rock Festival, now known as Download. He was disappointed at the lack of open air festivals since the Isle Of Wight in the early 70s. He used his connections with the hierarchy at Donington where he used to race to start the rock festival there. That's why Rainbow were the first headliners of the festival.

@@marcstevens8576 There is a common misconception that the word Journeyman refers to a musician who spent a career journeying from band to band. The word actually refers to any tradesman who has only recently completed his training, but has not yet been deemed to have mastered his craft. Journeyman comes from the French word for day: "Jour", as such individuals were never employed permanently, but were paid by the day.

That combo of power and precision is astounding when you look at the size of the sticks he used. Damn...they looked bigger than some marching band sticks. You need some Strong hands fingers and wrists to keep those logs rolling like he did. RIP COZY. Hope you werent a sacrifice for the lodge like Jeff became. But you know what they say...what comes around goes around...
