The Life of a Women’s Professional Hockey Player | Hilary Knight

Спорт

► Underwater hockey is a REAL sport. Don't believe us? CLICK here: win.gs/UnderwaterHockey
Hilary Knight gives us an inside perspective on what it’s like to be a professional hockey player in the inaugural season of the NWHL, the first paid women’s hockey league. Knight shoulders a stressful work load, one where she must balance between performing at the highest level on the ice with being the main marketing face for the new league. We joined Knight for two days in Boston where she lives and plays for the Boston Pride, documenting the two very different sides to her.

    I met Hilary back in December and she is beautiful. I was so shy to actually even look at her and wave when I saw her warming up. I finally got the courage to wave and she waved back. During the game I moved to the front row and she noticed me and gave me a puck. After the game, I got to meet her and again, I was way to shy to ask for a picture but I did and it was awesome. It's nice that they aren't that popular because you can walk around the arena and talk to them without having security breathing down your neck. ❤️

    I love girls who play sports but this "why don't we make as much as the guys" More women and girls should go and spend money at nwhl games and they will make millions simple as that not enough women and girls really watch sports. Dont get all mad saying oh I know tons of girls and women who do watch and love the nwhl then it means nwhl it stealing from it's players. I did read some articles saying how nwhl teams are bleeding money imo if you want this you must fight for it there should be like those walks for sports or something.

    +Darci Tuffin Well, the other things that are different are that the NHL is much older than the NWHL and it is much more popular than the NWHL as it is much more skillfull and entertaining to watch. (to most people) Don't get me wrong though, I think this new league is great. I believe it's a great thing that female hockey players will now be able to compete professionally against others of similar skill level. What I'm saying is the money paid to athletes comes from the money paid by customers. Hopefully the NWHL grows into a more serious league with a lot of teams because I'd love to come watch some games. (coming from a high school hockey player)

    Kyleschannelz I think you may have misunderstood what she said there. she was saying that for the USA team they had crowds of 17000 so there was a lot of hype and motivation. however they only get about 1500 for this new league so they need to hype themselves up as if they were playing in front of the 17000 crowds and that hopefully one day this league with have regular crowds around the 17000 mark too

    Just needs to grow more and become established in terms of attendance and media before it continues to grow. It'll just end up collapsing like the CWHL if they just throw in 10 new teams in order to 'grow the game.' Patience is critical to ensuring this works.

Every once in a while men's college hockey is on TV and from time to time women's hockey with team USA vs team Canada are on TV. I am actually much more impressed with the women in these USA vs Canada than watching these college men's hockey games. The women's game seems faster, more skilled and much less sloppy than the men's college hockey games. Hell I am even very impressed with these girls u18 USA vs Canada hockey games and enjoyed these games better than watching Notre Dame vs Penn State or which ever men's college hockey games that are on TV.

    Women's hockey has dramatically improved since the 1990s. I can see why young women like yourself want to play in a women's professional league. Just looking at a few women that competed in this years NHL skills competitions and how well these women play in their own professional leagues and the last 2 Olympics as well, all I can say is wow! The only difference that I see between the women and the NHL is the players average size difference. Other than that these women can skate, pass and puck handle on a skill level relatively close to NHL players and to me look noticeably closer to the skill set of NHL players than D1 college men hockey players.

  • @midnight-2021

    @midnight-2021

    As a fan of NHL hockey I would love to see these women's professional games on TV and not just on a KZread video. This should be on a sports channel a lot more than poker games. Once in a while college D1 men's hockey is on TV but to me their game is too slow and sloppy as compared to the NHL and from what I saw from the KZread videos of the women from the professional hockey leagues in the USA and Canada I would much rather watch them play than D1 college men's hockey. The NHL network, NBCsports, ESPN and other sports networks should give these games a chance because I think it would be a hit in a couple of years. It may start off slow in the ratings but with time and patience I think it would benefit the sports networks and also grow women's and girls hockey very significantly with this exposure on major sports TV.

    SURMOUNTING (A poem inspired by Olympian and Pro Hockey Player Mrs Chelsey Goldberg). // My message to the universe is this: Never give up. Adversity never lasts. // My message to quitters is this: Do not quit get better improve and be stronger. // Challenges can no longer destroy our will to be champions. Keep on skating. // When you fall on the ice, keep on skating. Be who you are, warriors. // During our battles, remember, we are indestructible. We can make miracles. // We are miracles for our breaths. No amount of setbacks can set us back. // It is our time to rise and emerge into heroes. Comebacks can be achieved. // No deficits and challenges can knock us out. We are the greatest champions ever. // We can never get knocked out by fear. We can triumph over doubt with hope. // Hope and love always outlasts fear and doubt. Overcomers overcome with love.
