It really is amazing!! It's a miracle really. Most wilds are lucky to make it 10 years. I'm wondering how protected this heard is.

Amazing for a stallion to still have a herd of his mares at 30. He not only has to survive - he has to fight off all the young hopeful studs every year!

@@cheyennemontuori1618 Of course. But think about it. Most studs don't take down the champ until mature and pretty experienced - say he was precocious and did it at age 5. He's been doing it for 25 years. Let's say he was a late bloomer and did it at 11. He's being doing it for 19 years. 19 to 25 years. Boggles the mind. When does he have time to recover? Not winter. Certainly not spring. Summer he's defending his herd with new foals. Fall? Hard to believe.

Cloud's definitely "more famous". I only know of Picasso because he pops up in my Pinterest feed from time to time and I recognized the unique face markings. I didn't know his name for a long time. There's no denying he's an incredibly impressive animal and he deserves the love he gets, but Cloud will always be the first horse my mind jumps to when someone says "mustang".

And when will the BLM decide to round up his herd as they have been doing to wild herds all over this country? Will they geld him and put this magnificent wild stud up for adoption??? Or use him as a poster child for "mustang makeover"? Wild horses belong wild ; and running free.... The public should know that the majority of mustangs gathered spend the remainder of their lives locked in pens, fed hay at the taxpayers expense AND that less than 10% are ever adopted

Sadly, the ones thay do gwt adopted, wind up living in deplorable conditions and after a year, the owners no longer have to keep them and sell them at that time to the horse meat trade. It's quite despicable! It should never happen to these magnificent beings! It should be against the law!

I don't know why, but seeing him takes my breath away and brings tears to my eyes. He's basically the old gunslinger of mustangs. Each scar and line etched onto his dusty pinto hide a trophy of some battle won, some mare conquered and some foal sired to keep his legacy alive for generations to come. He's as savvy as they get, and as wild and free as any mustang ever was. Truly a spirit that cannot be broken or tamed by any hand.

30 years old is fantastic for a domestic horse but a wild horse, beyond extraordinary. Beautiful and proud paint stallion. Run free.

I have more respect for that horse than most people

i think "most famous wild horse" is debatable since i'm familiar with Cloud and have his Breyer model but never heard of this guy.

Brook Scribner Cloud passed a few years ago. No one found his remains. Picasso has a Breyer! I have it and Cloud. Each year we wait for Picasso to be seen. I have not heard anything this year. Yet.

I know no one will probably believe this, but I have a Mustang mare from the wild (obviously) And we took a DNA test on her. Turns out, she is distantly related to Picasso! I know meme comments are gold but why not boast about my mare thats related to the most famous horse in America...

@Jane Cartwright a 30 yo domesticated horse isn't rare tbh... if the horse doesn't get pushed too hard like for high rank sports but has enough space, exercise and a healthy feeding they easily live that long. Have seen smaller horses and ponies doing well up to 40 too. Picasso got lucky with a strong immune system and is unique for surviving in the wild so long with all the possible dangers around. You can't say domestic horses would have worse chances on getting old, as long as their owner really cares about them. There's a LOT more 30+ yo domestic horses than wild mustangs of that age...

@@midnaphai Sadly tho, i've never seen a horse in captivity live more than 15 years of age. Like, they either got put down because of a broken leg, got sold to the slaughter house, etc..

@@StrikerSimp Hurts to hear but yes, there is tons of bad horse owners. There is tons of good ones too tho, at least in countries where vet bills don't cost your existence. I'm from germany and it's very normal here to see a stable full of healthy horses over the age of 20 with a few in their 30's

Except for the fact that Mustangs are technically invasive on US soil, and overpopulated for the amount of food their arid environment can naturally provide...

I HATE seeing horses boxed up and alone. It must be torture for them. Seeing this gorgeous, free stallion brings a flicker of remembrance for my own freedom.

I have a 26 year old mustang. She acts like a 6 year old. Very sound and easy keeper. Her previous owner had her on a teather and halter for about 10 years. Now she has 15 acres of green grass to play in and eat on. Soon she will be a momma too. Great horse and beautiful coloring.

Never heard of a horse being this old or a mustang being this old? Horses regularly reach their 30s nowadays. I learned to spin on a 31 year old retired reining horse, learned to jump on a 30 year old retired eventing horse, and knew a 34 year old Hanoverian gelding who still had the speed and energy of a horse a third his age. Others I've known who were retired by that age were still active, just no longer ridden much. Pretty much just worked to keep their bodies in good condition. Horses didn't used to live this long though. Modern veterinary medicine has come a long way.

My grandfather owned a horse that looked just like him. He was a crazy beast, tough as nails. That was in central Alberta and he was from the old wild stock of the foothills up there.

It is the name of an artist. I'd be willing to bet this stallion got his name from his pinto pattern and his funny blaze being reminiscent of a Picasso painting. Very fitting, I think.

Sometimes I want to be wild and free. But that horse is a starting of a legend. People might not know this there is not lots of wild horses. It’s rare you will even see them. The horses hooves when they hit the ground and then up they fly. They give you hope. They give you life. They give you you.

Definitely a beautiful creature. So strong, and majestic. Takes your breathe away.

Ohhhh i so miss my "Yucca". That was my pintos name when i was alil girl. 10 maybe? He was more like a huuuge pet dog. We played n snow together,rode in desert etc. Lotsa great memories with him. Ty for this video. I didnt really know history. Im 59yrs old now. Miss riding. One day,i keep sayin,one day🐎

My mom has a friend that photographed these horses, and I have a calendar of the horses.

There are wild horses on the east coast too. I think the people leave them be. Love their art.

Little Scooter .... technically, but they're not the same at all. Take the wild horses that have recently shown up in Kentucky. What happened there is that the mines shut down and the horses were abandoned. They've been wild for less than ten years, which means if you caught them, they'd probably still be easily tamed and it wouldn't be too hard to figure out what breed they are, because while they are wild, they are not yet mustangs. And it's not good. These horses are abandoned, sometimes with tack still on, and there isn't room for them. They don't have the Spanish blood that some mustangs are valued for, they're not protected like they sometimes are out west. I love mustangs, and in the battle between who gets the land: humans or mustangs, I'd choose mustangs. But I'm in the extreme minority. As if that's not enough, nature has a delicate balance, everything has a natural predator to keep populations in check. That's the reason deer are hunted every year, horses aren't allowed to be killed by humans (which I'm thankful of) but they also don't have many other predators (I don't think), which means that in order to keep their population in check, they have to be rounded up annually and either tamed or killed. It's sad but true. Things are flawed but good as they are.

Picasso is a horse no one has seem to tame I rather it be wild and let him be what he is

I've only had one domestic horse live past 30 so this is truly an amazing animal. Just goes to show horses don't need all of the stuff we give them.

He is a truly magnificent horse. Another famous American wild horse is Cloud from the Pryor Mountains. Both are absolute legends. I grew up watching all the Cloud documentaries, I absolutely loved watching them. They played on PBS’ Nature show, I tried to never miss one showing of those documentaries.

I see why people paint pictures of him and sing songs about him. I live in Colorado and I likely will never see this gentleman with my own eyes but I see how he is the quintessentially American horse.

Nah bruh.....its the wild raw energy that was there before it was colonized and called America. The Natives and the wildness of nature lived in harmony and understood one another. No taming necessary.....just friendship and an understanding of what it means to be one with the universe.

You might not want to deal with such a strong personality. This is a very high minded horse. These traits in companion animals can be very problematic , even deadly for those who do not know how horses perceive their world.

I've got a mustang gelding. His name is Colorado. Of all the horses he's ever been turn out on pasture with, it seems that he's the boss. I've never really seen any confrontations, but when he comes through, every body else steps aside. He's not all that big, but they all seem to think that he is bad.
