It was his manager and the record co. Who paid the bills n said go for it from what I hear Bill had never seen the finished product. My problem with that is . He did all of this he pranced around like he just met some dude and got sexy with him. So wile there nothing wrong with being that. At that time it did. So he can cry all day long. But how did you not know this was going to look like this. I mean he could have told the director no I dont want to do this. Also this was the directors first music video .

@EdCollects For sure I seen a TV thing that touched on this . And Billy claimed he didn't know how it was going to turn out. I call BS because at the end of the day Billy did it . I find it hard to believe that the director told him to prance around like that. It was a dumb video and it was the era of MTV. And if you where in the business you had to make a great video.

So, what you are saying is because He is Queer, straight guys couldn't be into his music? " In the Dark" lays out his emotions and how it feels to be in the closet way more then that one video. The fact that OP mentions Bud Light tells me all I need to know about the maturity level some of his former fans still lack. It's sad.

Squire was NOT responsible for "that" video. He repeatedly stopped the filming and called his manager, who told him that was what the record company wanted, the clothes, the dancing, the bed. Was the record company that stupid, or was it finally payback for the stroke??? Because we all know the song is about how messed up record companies were back then, and how many people you had to stroke to get a record deal, stroke to get to record, to get your record out, to get PR, to get tour support. I've seen him 8 times, and every time was incredible!!!!!

Billy Squire panicked when he saw the set of the music videos and when the choreographer had him do all the weird stuff, but the director told him it would look cool. And by the time Billy Squire saw the finished product, it was already released internationally. The song did well on the charts, but the music video destroyed his career overnight. It's a shame that his music career was so short lived. I consider "The Stroke" from his first album my absolute favorite song. Never lose respect for an artist until you know the whole story 🤘

It was a great song one of his best. But the man can't dance and moves and to put it bluntly acted like a Liberace. And nobody wanted to see that. Or be associated to listening to that. It was a shame

He should've just kept going. Gary Numan's old label almost destroyed him but he reinvented himself back. How the hell did he just stop?

You have to understand the way things where back then . Being a gay was death to your career. Elton John said he was bi 1976. But came out in 1988. Then met his man in 93. Also Aids had just started being a thing . So even tho the guy was a great player and song writer. He put that video out and that was it over night it was done. Too bad that's how it goes sometimes.
