The life and crimes of Gerard ‘Hucker’ Moyna

He was a rogue Republican who was thrown out of the IRA, had a brief dalliance with the INLA and someone who lurched around other dissident groupings as an enforcer and a feared hitman known for a love of violence but who couldn’t be managed or controlled.
This week as killer and terrorist Gerard ‘Hucker’ Moyna was laid to rest in Belfast, Nicola speaks with Belfast Telegraph Crime Correspondent Allison Morris about the life and crimes of a troubles psychopath and her brief encounter with him.

Proud to have been a friend of Huck since I was a child, I was literally with him a few hours before his accident, 90% of the things said here are true but one thing needs to be emphasised is Gérard was a Soldier of ireland and an absolute gentleman. He'll go down in history. Huck never did anything for himself he did it for the greater good, gone but never to be forgotten. I nDíl Chuimhne mo chara. TAL 🇮🇪

Lenny Murphy strangely looks like a mixture between Lou Reed and Ian Dury in that photo. The car he's posing with is the car Hucker gunned him down in.

Lenny Murphy killed both Catholics and Protestants. He was feared as much in the Shankill Road as the Cliftonville Road.

Hucker carried out his order's to the letter and if having to shoot someone so be it , he never questioned it he carried out his order's as a Republican Soldier, if that makes him a natural born killer there must be thousands out there,.

"Never heard of him"....that's generally the point of being a good operator. Some active gunmen never courted publicity or post ceasefire notoriety. Thankfully the shitty tabloid right wing media never got a hold of his name and decided to publicise him & ramp up his reputation. If you're outside the wider Republican community, why should anyone hear of a guy like this name? He was an underground political activist for a reason. That's just how i see it anyway. There's ex volunteers in South Armagh that have wiped out dozens of British soldiers over 20 years when the war was on, but outside their immediate Republican circle in the local area, no one would know who they are. Long may it stay that way. Case in point, the name of the Adjutant General of the Provos (while the war was on) has only come to light since he passed away a couple of years ago. No one before that really knew who he was.

@@Freddy19677 it's far too easy to label someone like Gerard as a nutjob. He was an active gunman and operator and lets leave that there. Certainly his involvement in ridding Mr Murphy off the scene was widely celebrated. Was it elements with loyalism that set Murphy up, probably/possibly, but thats another story. When a member of the army or special forces goes onto do private military contract work, mercenary or close protection work, why are they never labelled as "nut jobs" despite the risks and dangers that being in that life represents.
