I think productivity is rewarding to the point where you are doing everything you have to do effectively, so that you are not wasting much time with procrastination. In my experience, time you spent procrastinating feels even more stressful than actually doing the work without accomplishing anything, and it takes time away from actually enjoying yourself and the moment

People hate it when other people are happy and not trying so hard. The call it failure and encourage you to think about your future. Whenever I find peace doing so little, someone always interrupts my peace by saying, "Why don't you try to find a better job," or "You should start thinking about your future" and whenever I tell them I feel great, I don't need to think too much about it somehow they feel offended.

We can only start to think this way because we are becoming a society of abundance. It wasn't always like this. Hunger and deprivation, scarcity and insecurity, etc... were the rule up until even one or two generations ago. Everyone needed to work very hard just to survive. But work has become a little like food: we as a species evolved to overeat and gorge on food whenever we could find it, because you never knew where your next meal would come from. And this was an approach that helped us survive. But in this recently evolving society of abundance, it is leading to obesity, diabetes, heart disease, etc... We have to consciously and deliberately learn not to overdo it before it makes us sick. Work is the same.

How funny. When I was a child, I always wanted to be a cat.

Leisure by William Henry Davies Next What is this life if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. No time to stand beneath the boughs And stare as long as sheep or cows. No time to see, when woods we pass, Where squirrels hide their nuts in grass. No time to see, in broad daylight, Streams full of stars, like skies at night. No time to turn at Beauty's glance, And watch her feet, how they can dance. No time to wait till her mouth can Enrich that smile her eyes began. A poor life this if, full of care, We have no time to stand and stare. This poem is in the public domain.

I’ve never heard words speak to me more than what you just said. I could never have said it so simply and eloquently, but this is exactly me. Cheers to all my fellow cats out there!

It starts with controlling attention (which is what meditation is - a bunch of techniques for controlling attention). Once you have even a little attention you become aware. And one of the fist things you notice is we all spend so much time thinking about the past or planning the furture. We miss where the real experence of life is and that is.... the present moment. Be like the cat or dog. Live in the now.

I was warm and content... until i realized the protagonist was a cat. Then I was sad. The cat was so alone in its wisdom.

My kids need a good life. I'm not greedy. I need to provide as best as I can and make them realize the value of work-life balance. I want to retire early too, but if I can't so be it.
