The whole concert John Farnham did with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra was amazing. “Help” was John’s second encore after a 2 hour concert and is still one of my favourite performances he ever did. ❤ The Beatles are legends worldwide and always will be but John is our (Australia’s) legend and should have been a worldwide icon. He chose his family over world stardom and just stayed in Australia touring the country. Fantastic to see that he is now being recognised around the world due to KZread reactions, even if it’s 30 years later!

I prefer the first and original version by The Beatles. The enjoy the harmony in the Beatles version. And I wonder if John Farnham could sing Helter Skelter or Oh Darling as well as McCartney did. Very few singers have the vocal versatility that McCartney had in his prime. And actually Help was originally supposed to be a slower and more of a ballad type of song. John Lennon changed it to a faster song at the end before they recorded it. It would have been interesting to hear The Beatles do a slower version as well. Just like they did with Revolution and While My Guitar Gently Weeps.

@@daletwin1 John could not have written any of these songs. But you had better believe he'd have sung any of them better. Lennon and Mccartney weren't really singers, any more than Bob Dylan or Jim Hendrix was. And John wouldn't put himself above the Beatles. But don't pretend they were great vocalists with "versatility".

  • @daletwin1

@@jeremykothe2847 well I can clearly see that when it comes to music that you don't know your Brass from your Oboe. I don't have to "pretend" anything. It is you that is not dealing with reality. First of all, reread my comment. I said McCartney (singular) was a very versatile singer. I, like many, many music fans and professional singers also think John Lennon was one of the greatest rock singers in music history. I am not a fan of Bob Dylan or his "singing". For you to claim McCartney had no versatility is beyond ignorant. Very few singers in the world can sing Helter Skelter, Hey Jude, Yesterday and I'Ve Got A feeling and pull them all off like McCartney could do. All of those songs take a different vocal style. Most singers have just one style. McCartney had many. Look up in the dictionary what the definition of versatility means. I don't think you understand the meaning of the word or much about singing at all. Thanks for the laugh. Your comment was laughable. Let me educate you a little bit. Paul McCartney, in his prime, had one of the widest vocal ranges in Rock history and Lennon and McCartney are regarded as having some of the most beautiful vocal harmonies in popular music history. Educate yourself before you make dumb statements like that. You are embarrassing yourself.

Of course you should praise the Beatles They wrote this wonderful song along with over 300 others most of them worldwide hits . But John Lennon of the Beatles said that John Farnham sang HELP the way it was intended to be sung slowly and with feeling . I being old enough to be there for the start of the Beatles phenomenon in the early 60s encourage you to discover all the amazing music they produced you won't be dissapointed . As an Australian I was also around for the start of John Farnham's career also in the 60s and have watched him become arguably the best male singer in the world ,well in my mind at least . You can do yourself and your subscribers a huge favour by reacting to many more songs from both the Beatles and John Farnham or Farnsey as he is known in Australia . If I could recommend my favourite Beatles songs check out YESTERDAY ,MICHELLE ,BLACKBIRD FOOL,ON THE HILL , ELEANOR RIGBY ,TILL THERE WAS YOU , THAT ,BOY and many many others . My favourite Farnsey songs are PLAYING TO WIN . COOL CHANGE , FREEDOM , YOUR THE VOICE , ANGELS ,BURN FOR YOU ,AGE OF REASON ,IN DAYS TO COME ,TWO STRONG HEARTS , WHEN THE WAR IS OVER and again many many more . You have everything to gain by reacting to these legendary artists and I have given you my subscription in anticipation , keep on keeping the music alive .

@@captcaveman82 It’s quite a well-known fact. John Lennon said at the time he wrote the song, it was a cry for help. The Beatles were pressured into recording a faster, preppy version which he wasn’t happy with. When he saw the Farnham version, he commented that this was the way the they should’ve done it. I actually saw a documentary on Lennon about four years ago where they talked about this. It showed Lennon doing a slow version of Help just with the piano in his New York apartment. It would’ve been not that long before he died. Unfortunately I can’t help you with the name of the documentary. I tried to find it, but there is just too much Beatles stuff out there.

It’s not a competition. The Beatles wereBeatles were awesome new Songwriters. Their songs are clever and they were and are world famous. They began a whole new era of fun, rebellious, exciting music that kids loved and parents hated. It was the Sixties after all! John was starting out in the sixties in Australia. John was and is as talented as a young kid touring with a band or singing on TV etc. John loves performing and can sing anything but he also loves Australia, his wife and his family. America wasn’t interested in him and that was their huge loss, but the young reactionists are blown away by him and rightly so. John was very popular in Europe apparently but stayed in Australia. He is beloved here by most Aussies because for ? Five decades we have had this world class superstar to ourselves hence the huge crowds he was filling in the 80’s.and 90’s. He is truly a humble, funny, generous lovely man who has amazed us for years. It’s sad to hear some of the reactionists saying they feel robbed as they love him but he wasn’t played in the USA but he has a huge body of work that’s pretty easy to find. As regards Help, the Beatles original song. It was a great song for a new age of music lEven ? Paul McCartney I believe loved John’s cover of their song. There’s room for everyone. But vocally John leaves everyone in awe of his talent.♥️🇦🇺Australia has been very spoiled having our own brilliant performer with The Voice and I personally am so glad he stayed in Australia, has had a long happy marriage to the love of his life ,Jillian, and two handsome now adult sons, and we are very grateful to Jillian for sharing her husband with an entire country. It can’t have been easy. Listen to a song he wrote called Burn for you. We love him. Love from Australia.😊

Well John Lennon said he wanted to sing it more seriously and said that John Farnham sang it more like he was going to but the record company knew an upbeat song would sell much better and a not so depressing song being a boy band ,at least that’s what I’ve heard. This song written to be used as the title song in the Beatles movie ''Help" which was itself a fun parody of the spy genre so popular at the time. In that context the song is a perfect rendition by the Beatles. Johnny Farnham's take on the song is also perfectly OK and it's quite interesting to see them juxtaposed in this way. Well done to The Performance.
