One of the best games of all times. I was 13 when I played it for the first time. Hours of pure pleasure. Plus, after you finished the original quest, there was a second quest, with new dungeons and where the stuff was hidden in other places. Also the first console game that you could save your porgress!

I agree. When I discovered this game, I was amazed by its beauty. Too bad the sequel was not as awesome. Do not misunderstand me: Zelda 2 is good, and I completed it. But the first one is the title which inspired Nintendo into developing Zelda A Link to the Past; which is the best Zelda ever.

I rented this game so often that my parents refused to buy it for me when I asked for it for my birthday. Instead, they got me Metroid. I stopped renting it, got it for Christmas that same year, and finally was able to beat it at some point in the SNES era. I really miss it when games didn't just lay down for you. As awesome as A Link to the Past and the 3D Zeldas are, they require almost no effort to complete.

i agree the 3d zeldas dont take that much effort, but i think a link to the past can still be pretty difficult

@@benjaminanimate At some point in the 16-bit era I realized that Nintendo's games were no longer going for challenge for a balance between it and play-ability. It was probably Super Metroid that is the best example of this, but Mario World, A Link to the Past, and Super Punch Out too are nowhere near as satisfying to overcome as their predecessors. However, they are all a lot more polished, playable, and, the most general sense, fun. What I was referencing with Zelda 1 vs the 3D ones isn't how difficult the enemies are to kill but in their structure. There is a formula in place that ensures there's never any question about where to go or what to do. Games lose something with that.

Not using the boomerang to stop enemies, barely losing hearts… I’ve been playing this since I got it for Xmas in 1987 and still have to make 20 attempts on certain dungeons while using potions constantly. Well played.

This was possibly played by a professional gamer... Which Nintendo employed quite a few in the old days. There was one by the name of Todd Aiken? The last name I may not be sure of but he was a professional gamer in the old days who actually held many titles

Still got my copy in box, though the box isn't pristine or anything, as I played the hell out of this one back in the day, beating both quests. In the second quest, those red bubble enemies were a massive pain if they hit you as you could no longer swing your sword, but the blue bubbles would restore that ability. This wasn't a thing in the first quest, but the Like Likes could still eat your shield.
