The Legend of Zelda: A Live Action Movie Trailer

Ойын-сауық

Every single one of the Legend of Zelda games would make an incredible movie (interested Peter Jackson?). My personal favorite game for a movie is Ocarina of Time. Which do you think would make the best movie?

    I AGREE. It could be a different timeline, but same game locations and atmosphere (Like I want to see twilight and major's mask, but different storys.). Also, what would be a great idea is if link can train with the sheika to learn to fight. That would be awesome.

    I'm ready for Link to talk. I no longer see Link as a link between myself and the game. I see Link as an actual character. Especially after Breath of the Wild. He'd have to have a slightly softer voice. One that fits his slender physique & softer facial tones. Also he'd have to speak extremely humble, honorable & courageous. Also only a few spoken words. Most of his speaking should be done with body language. But I'm ready for it.

    I think Link should be played by a woman. As odd as that might sound. Any man would be too rough, too edgy. I think only a woman could portray Link's character well enough.

    I love the ninja turtles! I have to admit, I was introduced to them through the awesome 90's TV cartoon and I'm not as familiar with the original comics, but I imagine a movie about that would be awesome! The hard thing about us making something like that is our VFX skills aren't quite up to par to having animated characters (or even animatronic ones), I think if someone were to really make a movie based on the comics then that would get a LOT of fans excited, and there are a LOT of turtle fans!

    personally one of the main things i love about the series is how joyful and fun it can be, so i hope that any film adaptation carries that same spirit. it can be very camp and it doesn't really take itself too seriously. it's scary and heavy at times, of course, but the games do a great job of balancing the two.

  • @TheBackyardFilmmakers

    @TheBackyardFilmmakers

    I definitely agree! Nothing too dark and gritty, but fun and adventurous (but can get serious and scary if it needs to). I think that would be an excellent approach to any adaptation.

    My favourite Zelda trailer to this day, and there have been many. I love how calm it is, the subtle special effects, the more humane form of Ganon, Zelda's voice, how much more realistic navi looked and the fact that it didn't focus too much on Link made him stand out that much more, incredible work right down to the music!

    You have to have an actual cast for an actual movie with an actual story to make it a good idea to “feature” this “hot” dude. This was a trailer to get the idea of a Zelda movie rolling. Mission accomplished. Showing a glimpse of the bad guy, the most important character (Zelda -who was very pretty btw) and some action of the main character in a short narrative trailer was exactly the elements needed to get the ball rolling. The ending with the scarecrow was perfect! Makes you wonder and hunger for more. If the movie goes into production, you’ll see a lot more of a hunky guy playing link. This was a perfect trailer.

    This is way to video game-ish. The real movie needs to be a cross between the fantasy of Frank Miller's 300 style and seriousness/darkness of Lord of the Rings. It's too cartoonish to be a successful movie. The style is perfect for the video game, but a replica of the game's culture doesn't automatically transfer to a culture that would make a movie great. My two cents.

  • @TheBackyardFilmmakers

    @TheBackyardFilmmakers

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Brandon Hall In the event of a real movie I agree they should take inspiration from the Lord of the Rings. Everything felt like it came from a real world and place. Zelda would need to feel the same. To make a live action movie it is important to have things feel realistic, and things don't automatically translate from things like cartoons and video games. For our video, we had limitations of no budget, but for what we had and accomplished, we were very proud of how it looked. Thanks for the feedback though, we'll keep that in mind for future projects.

    As a die hard Zelda fan, this trailer excited me very much. You guys did a fantastic job. What I am most impressed with was the cinematography and videography that went into this. That seems to be what is the most eye catching. Though, I have some critiques. I think it is very important to bring on a person who is a Lore Consultant or atleast an Assistant Director who is very invested into the Zelda universe to ensure that it is accurate upon PRE PRO, PRODUCTION, and POST PRO. There were quite a few inaccuracies that did bother me. Such as the Master Sword being a dinky little thing. Casting is going to also be a huge role in something like this. You found a good actor for Zelda and perhaps Ganondorf, but all the rest I wasn't too impressed with. The narrator's voice sounded a bit inexperienced. It was a bit too much exaggeration in their whispering. Thats not a lore thing, it just sounded kinda... bad. Those are examples of the many. Lastly I want to mention that the trailer did seem a bit anti-climactic. I know it is a trailer, but the best trailers are the ones who manage to tell some of the story without giving away the actual climax of the film. A way to have a climax is to build up to seeing the actual character Link, his face and his entirety. Casting Link is the most essential thing, he HAS to look good. Nobody has managed to pull off a good looking link ever since Player Piano's interpretation (The Zelda Project's), which I was very impressed with. Anyway sorry for the wall of text. But if there was going to be a Zelda Fan Film or even a Movie I would be somewhat protective over it just as Nintendo has been for decades. If there were to be a movie, It needs to be good and it needs to have some faithfulness to Zelda and its Lore, while breaking away from some of the conventions of the games in an effective and acceptable manner to interprate the games correctly in film. None the less, for a small and fun project this was awesome. You guys have some great footage, and I definitely crown it as the best I have seen. But I think aiming to compete with Player Piano's Link casted character is a big goal and challenge. Cause they definitely managed to interprate him so good!

    +Robert Merritt Hey Robert. Thanks for all the feedback. A lot of people on youtube just put things down with insults and "this part stunk" kind of comments, but it's so much better and more powerful to actually give constructive criticism, just like you have done. Compliment what they did right and then give constructive criticism on the areas then can improve and give specific examples. You did that wonderfully. Thanks very much for giving constructive criticism and your compliments. We really appreciate it.

    +Ideas for Hollywood Hey man! Of course, its easy for many audiences to make a judgement without realizing the mindset and challenge it requires. I honestly think you guys really managed to pull off one of the hardest parts, which is a very live and breathing world that looks like Zelda. Hence your footage! You guys are definitely on the right road. Keep up the good work! Im actually located here in Utah in the Salt Lake area. I have always been fond of the beautiful landscapes it has. Many Zelda friendly environments. Im a growing filmmaker myself. Except currently im more focused on Visual Effects, Video Editing and Motion Graphics. But ive done all of it ever since I was 10 years old! Let me know if you guys need another passionate artist! :)

    And the amazing part is, a Zelda movie would give him so much creative freedom. He could introduce as many new characters and plot points as he wanted to and we wouldn't need to get all pissy about it "not following the original story", because it could just be a whole new story to add to the timeline. :)

    The direction and editing are outstanding. Even the combat choreography and its associated sound editing, while very brief, is better than some commercially produced content. The real treat is at the end though. Majora's Mask is my favorite Zelda game, and from the actors to the props to the camera work, that was simply awesome. I'd love to see a Zelda series of movies based on some of the games, but truly great adaptations like LotR are hard to come by. In addition to seeing how the WoW and Assassins's Creed movies do, the Turtles movie is another one to keep an eye on, because of how much it's adapting from the first generation cartoon. Also, the early 80s Jim Henson film The Dark Crystal would be a great one to check out for any team working on a commercial LoZ movie IMO. It has the hero's journey and over-the-top fantasy characters that nevertheless are credible within their setting, as well as a number of LoZ parallels.

  • @TheBackyardFilmmakers

    +Hyrum Graff Thanks for all the feedback Hyrum! I agree that looking at Dark Crystal would be a really cool direction for Zelda. It would be cool to see it use practical effects and real world sets more than CG. I love CG and VFX, but there is something special about keeping as much as you can in camera and practical on the set.

We are working on our next videos though (not Zelda related, but Nintendo related) and we're hoping they'll be out in a month or so.
