    Fun fact: In the original D&D campaign, Percy first took up the sword. But once he noticed that it was sentient, he didn't want anything to do with it (especially after just getting rid of his possessed pistol) - so he gave it to Grog, not telling anyone else about it. When the other players later compared it to giving Grog crystal meth, he countered with "please, I gave him _the best_ crystal meth..." "I'm curious how this will play out" is Percy's worst trait, and part of the reason I love his character.

    On the note of Kamaljiori dying and how Osysa might feel after receiving that news, I wonder if she already knew that would happen. At the end of her talk with Vox Machina her voice took on a depressed tone when explaining how to find him; at first I thought it was due to her longing but now I wonder if she had a sense that he was going to die shortly after meeting them. Being a chosen of the Knowing Mistress it is not hard to believe that she might have some level of divination magic.

    This is one of those episodes that shows you the pay off from season 1 with Scanlon being such a 1 sided character with just looking for love and jokes, getting to see that isn't all there is to him and that he knows that he is missing something in his life but he really just doesn't understand how to find love, which is definitely great since you can only take so much of a 1 sided character like that for so long.

    This episode is very much different from what happened in the live stream, but I will continue to say that I love that they made Umbrasyl want to seek out the Vestiges. Not only is that a great way to make him a much more active villain than he was in the stream, but it also falls in line with DnD canon. Exactly. Umbrasyl is also called "The Hope Devourer" for good reason. Grog got in some good hits, but Umbrasyl didn't use his breath during that brawl, or really use his flight to any real advantage; he was more like a cat playing with his food, savoring that sense of hope in victory before just crushing it utterly.

    It doesn't come up in the story, so I'm confident it isn't spoilers. Kamaljiori was separated from Osysa to safeguard the Knowing Mistress's (another God) knowledge while she recovers from a wound that she suffered from the Chained Oblivion (yet another God) during the Calamity. Problem is, that injury can never heal, so Kamaljiori and Osysa would never be reunited and both of them must live far apart from eachother knowing fully that they can never see eachother again. It makes makes Kamaljiori's last words that much sadder.

    The original challenge was far more mundane, and because Ripley never approached Umbrasyl, he never tracked down VM, killed the sphinx or split the party. But this was all far more dramatic, and Sam getting to show off his musical chops is always a win. (He parodied famous songs for his bard spells, and co-created the theme for the second campaign. The show's theme is based on it.) Grog did skewer Pike, though. They obviously split the party to follow two storylines at once, but it's a shame we'll never get to see the satyr's drawintg of Grog...

    This episode was very different from the stream, but I think the changes were good ones for the same reasons Old Wolf Logan mentions. I was quite surprised when Kamaljiori just introduced himself when I first saw the episode, since in the stream they had to guess his name by completing some very dangerous puzzles. And yeah, we're starting to scratch below the surface of Scanlan here. The jokes, lewd songs and bedtime fun is what he's like, but it's not all he is or all he looks for. But, he doesn't know how to look for what he really wants. Also, the song is great. :) Grog and Craven Edge is a bit of a mess. While Craven Edge is smarter than Grog, it's also bound to him as long as he's the wielder of it, which limits its options. And yeah, Grog is nervous about his past with the Herd of Storms for a reason. We'll see more of that in the episodes ahead. At least the Fey realm is all bright colors and happy fun times, so nothing bad will happen there. :)

    Great reaction as always. I love that your channel was recommended to me recently because as someone who has seen the tabletop game, The Legend of Vox Machina has given me a format to easily share VM with my partner - you two together reminds me of that. As for the episode - it's a good highlight of how the show deviates from the stream, and is better for it:

  • @I.Lostalim

    @I.Lostalim

    For example, coming up to Kami, Sam (Scanlan) and Travis (Grog), who also executive produce this show approached Matt (The DM) because they were kind of magically continent hopping a bit by this stage on tabletop but that doesn't fit the style of the animation... Matt was just like, give me a minute, and returns with a brand new canonical location that he just invented so Sam and Travis could make the script work. And yes... That 'puzzle' solution! Again in the show it was a more standard fight enemies, complete puzzles obtain the letters and then arrange the letters into the Sphynx's name.... Not only was this version so much better for the TV format than that would have been, it let Sam and his brother (in-law? I forget) write that beautiful piece of music. Also, the party split didn't happen, they did the two things one after the other, but as you'll see in the next episode the split leads us into a much deeper story and is better for it.
