Unfortunately Holland is not doing enough for the kickboxing scene. They were are unable to organize a decent regional promotion after It`s Showtime (Glory is not dutch), the media does not translate to English the interviews with the coaches/fighters, it is a shame really.

A friend of mine married a Dutch gentleman (I believe from Hoorn?) who was surprised that I highly regarded Dekkers and the martial arts style he represented. But perhaps future generations of Dutch fighters will re-discover his accomplishments.

I started training in Muay Thai in 1993, after training in traditional martial arts for 13 years. my instructor lent me some VHS tapes, Thailand VS Holland Dekkers, Kaman. I was blown away by the destruction Ramon unleashed on his opponents. I studied his style ever since, eventually becoming a champion myself. it was ramon who spurned me on to train hard and be like him, eventually i would meet and train with him at a seminar the best day in my martial arts journey meeting my hero in person. I am now 54 still training and watching his fights. RIP RAMON a warrior and humble human being.

I was danish champion i 2000. I trained with dekker aswell, same seminar i gues, only in denmark... Sparring with Dekker was absolutly a high point!

His Seat encompasses the heavens and the earth, and the preservation of both does not tire Him. For He is the Most High, the Greatest.. Yep, me too. I'm not a fighter, not even a practitioner, but I love watching good fighters. That video impressed me deeply, still does even after watching many other excellent muay thai fights since then. Deep respect for Ramon Dekkers and for all muay thai fighters. RIP The Diamond.

Had a chat with him online a year or so before he died. Was surprised to get a reply from him let alone a chat. A very humble man, not to mention a total legend.

There's water coming out my eyes for some reason,Being recognised like that just before his untimely passing is so fitting, I'd have loved to have met him. Ramon you legend love from Scotland... Great piece again osu.

I remember I went to watch him fight Namkabuan with my father when I was little . The fight made me start Muay Thai at a very young age but unfortunately did not become a pro due to a car crash which seventy crippled my legs. Fighters like Dekkers still inspire me till this day

Still hard to believe that he's gone even though it was long ago, this guy was one of my biggest inspirations growing up rip.

I remember watching Ramon clips on KZread when I was younger before training. I shall witness and honor that Gladiator ! Rest In Peace warrior !

What can i say .. he is an unmatched legend . My biggest inspiration in martial arts and combat sports since i started in the 90s . The till i collapse highlights was my main motivator before every tournament i ever had .

I agree but it was also a very different time. To get my fix of Muay Thai or KB I had to wait for my monthly magazine subscription to arrive in the mail lol. In countries outside Thailand and Japan I think you had to be really dedicated to get access to information re fighters, tournaments etc.

Unfortunately, the Dutch government and media failed to give this champion the credit he deserved. The same also applies to other champions such as (I will name a few) Ernesto Hoost, Peter Aerts, Rob Kaman, Bas Rutte, etc etc. All these guys (also those who did not become champions but participated at top level) have delivered a super performance . Some of them were even multiple world champions. In a country like Japan they can't even walk down the street normally without being ambushed by hundreds of fans. and media .... and in their own country (maybe) a piece in the newspaper on the sports page and otherwise zero attention ... Shame !!

I never got to see this man in action, Ramon Dekkers was a true warrior and a high candidate for G.O.A.T. in his overall impact in bringing Mauy Thai out of the Asian culture and making that fighting discipline the progenator of all the MMA interest we have around the world today... I haven't followed Muay Thai all that long. How exactly did Ramon pass away? Watched quite a few of his fights , and the guy was incredible. Had no idea he died until tonight.

He got a heart attack while riding his (tour de France style) bicycle. Bas Rutten said that Ramon always pushed the limit and that his heart at age 42 couldn't keep up. Ramon had been pushing his body beyond the limit for many many years. Some locals tried and provide CPR and called the ambulance, but it was to late. Rest in Peace Diamond 💎

@@LawrenceKenshinBefore he passed, Diamond Dekkers was scheduled to come to my former club for a seminar and private lessons. At the last minute he had to cancel for personal reasons, and a few weeks later Coban arrived. I had a 1-hour private lesson with him and it is a great memory. Time and his style of fighting had obviously taken its toll on the man and he was showing the effects off many many head contacts over the years, but he remained a warm, funny and generous teacher. A memory i will cherish.
