Patrick is frustrating because he has no reason to be in the plot. Why is he at the concert? Why does he eat both backstage passes? Why does the crowd cheer for him?

The older episodes had sly references to adult themes, like existential dread, the mindlessness of 9-5 jobs, and suicidal ideation. The newer episodes don't have those themes. That's my biggest gripe about them.

Not all TV shows need adult references though. Especially if they’re going to be completely obvious. One modern episode has a joke about Squidward trying to hang himself and it isn’t funny at all. There’s another one in which plankton wants to get run over and that one made that specific episode even worse

@@Murr248 The beauty of Spongebob in its infant days is that it was actually humorous and the show had flavor. Taking jabs at a wide range of jokes without missing a punchline with them. It tackled all types topics on top of that. As the series went on though, just like the Simpsons which also should’ve been put to rest years ago. They suffer from content fatigue. Spongebob now is just a shell of its former self being a cash grab for Nick.

hillenburg literally wanted spongebob to end. yet they still produced more and more episodes, completely disrespecting his wishes.

At the end of the day it was his show, if he wanted it to be 3 seasons that was Hillenburg's choice, Nickelodeon however couldn't let go of their money printer just yet and as a result, nearly 20 years of mediocrity. @@charlotterhodes7359 I remember Patrick being the wise low IQ friend, who helped SpongeBob in predicaments. He's was reduced to a dumbass. Squidward has been tweaked very little. Mr. Krabs wasn't really money hungry, but that's not a big deal. It was expected. SpongeBob became more of a idiot, instead naive. SpongeBob was more naive in the first 3 seasons. I think he was supposed to go on adventures, instead of staying at the Krusty Krab, missed opportunities.

Now It might have not felt conventionally SpongeBob ish yes I get it but I liked the Space Cats idea much more, it was so detailed also! Maybe include it as another SpongeBob long special episode I could still see some more potential from it nevertheless.

Ikr, I was with my cousin and we were watching this episode where spongebob and Patrick were playing in a pool under water, they were playing Marco Polo, then I think Patrick disappeared, so spongebob did what anybody would do, and got out of the pool, closed his eyes, and yelled Marco so Patrick can say Polo. But then, Oh, there was this guy named Marco. So like he was angry, that spongebob kept yelling his goddamn name But then, spongebob found Patrick with the old buddies, he just had wrinkles so he thought he was old. So then spongebob had wrinkles, so now they were old people. The end.

Since Lost in Bikini Bottom (season 9) the show hast got way better, thanks to Stephen Hillenburg who came back to the show. In my opinion season 11 is my favourite season, you should watch it, maybe you don't like it because the animation.

It’s like big companies do not care about originality of a product but just how much money a certain product can make. Even if you’re the original creator of the product, they don’t care about what it can do better, when to stop or anything like that. Even after that original creator had passed away. Youssef Matte Official there are SO many classic spongebob moments that are genuinely funny and “witty” for kids shows standards. But I feel like the newer seasons feel a bit dumbed down for quick laughs the majority of the time. However there are pockets of good episodes here and there post-spongebob movie.

Anyone remember when in the 2010s Nickelodeon was SO BAD that they would air nonstop reruns of spongebob? I Guess they couldn’t think of any other good show on at the time so they would just air nonstop spongebob episodes to cover it up.

The early-mid 2010’s... Degrassi iCarly Every Witch Way Victorious Make it Pop Open Heart WITS Academy All great Nickelodeon shows...... Nick wasn’t bad at that time miss gorl. The Dramas and the Schneider comedies were the only good things at the time yes, but they were so good that they made me watch Nick/NickToons/TeenNick all the time!

Someone else said this, but while I think S4 had a lot of “meh” spots, but it did have its highlights. It isn’t as bad as everyone says it is. (I think two of my favorite SpongeBob episodes are “Krusty Towers” and “Squidtastic Voyage.”) After S4, however, it started getting typical, boring, and dumbed-down, and then it become stupider and stupider and worse and worse.

I grew up with spongebob even though I was born in 2005. I still loved the older seasons even when I was like 8. It feels awful to see a show that formed the best memory’s from my childhood just treated like nothing. 2 spin-offs now, only 3 years after he died, I could tell that nick had a small smirk on there face then the dad of spongebob and my childhood slowly not being about to have input because of his condition. feels like a heart less from kingdom hearts, the body is there, but no heart.

Spongebob is the only thing keeping Nickelodeon alive. Loud House would have been a good successor but the show suffered a dip in quality and the creator got fired for sexual misconduct so Nickelodeon is in a dark place and with no hope of a decent future.

Women claimed that he was sexually harassing them (which was true unfortunately) He got fired in 2017, and the last episodes he produced came out in 2018 (he produced episodes in advance) Michael Rubiner now is the executive producer. I noticed Loud House take a dip in 2018-2019 personally

You know Scooby-Doo actually ended right? What Warner bros does with Scooby-Doo is every couple years they will make a reboot or continuation of Scooby-Doo then after making a new episodes for the new show it'll end and a few years later another Scooby-Doo cartoon will be made. Chocolate With Nuts helped me overcome extreme sadness when it aired as a rerun on September 1st 2009, when my first dog Lucy passed away. Nothing stopped me from my crying my eyes out, not even Pizza and soda (my favorite meal), until I turned on the tv to see Spongebob and Patrick selling chocolates. I always enjoyed the first three seasons of the show, but things were different between the little yellow guy and I after that.

Spongebob isn't even funny anymore. They try too hard. There will never be the humor that the original had, especially the scenes like "It's this way Patrick" and the bank robbery scene. Those weren't pushing it, they were just random and ridiculously funny.

Basically Spongebob Squarepants is now the Teen Titans Go of Nickelodeon. Nothing funny at all.

At this point I feel the first spongebob squarepants movie should have been the series finale. This idea is not mine and I dont take credit for it but I will relay it anyway. The series finale should involve these things. Squidward finally creates a masterpiece, and gets a contract playing alongside Kelpy G. Mr krabs has made so much money he decides to retire and hands over the krabby patty formula and the krusty krab ownership to plankton and shake hands calling eachother brothers. Patrick finally finds a job that he is not only good at but gets paid well. Sandy makes a scientific breakthrough that involves automated assistants and devices allowing citizens to communicate with their pets which benefits bikini bottom. Spongebob finally gets his boating license and decided to quit his job at the krusty krab to land a job at a higher rated restaurant and eventually runs into jim who helps spongebob get his foot into the restaurant he works at. After spongebob quits plankton uses the money to purchase automated workers from sandy that she had recently patented. Sandy gives gary her recently patented pet communicator which reveals gary as a prodigy and spongebob being an understanding person encourages gary to work alongside sandy. Mrs puff is cleared of all charges and all recent records are expunged. Mr krabs finally gives into Pearl's requests for her father to be less cheap and eventually their relationship strengthens. As finally the sun sets the french announcer makes one statement to say and there you have it in the end everyone achieved what they sought to have as well as more. Our friends that we have watched for so many years are finally complete and forever happy. Sniffle. I'm not crying you are. All the while the end credits theme is slowly playing as the sun sets one final time.

@Funnel Star I don't think it being overrated means that care wasn't put into it, but hey.

I always felt like Spongebob was ment to end at the first movie. I mean, Spongebob getting to be manager of the second Krusty Krab, finally being acknowledged as a man, let alone this big daring adventure with Patrick to save Bikini Bottom from Plankton all felt like the major climax to the show. But you know how Greed can get to people...

I knew Steven passed but not what from, my heart goes out to the family, I lost my father to ALS too, it’s horrific.

Remember back when Spongebob was just treated like every other show on at the time, like Jimmy Neutron, Fairly Oddparents, and Danny Phantom? Yeah. No milking at that time. Just a good, well treated show.

Between 2005 and 2020, the reruns would mutate even more because Nickelodeon kept on canceling all of their good cartoons

Hopefully! And Replay Some Olds Shows That Don’t Repeat On The Channel Like, You Know Not Making New Episodes But You Know Repeat Some Old Cartoons from 90s And 2000s!

Now the birthday special feels like a finale. A reunion of many characters, appreciation for the voice actors, Patchy finally meeting Spongebob, etc.

Sure it feels like it should be the finale. But keep in mind, as long as those greedy pigs are still in charge of Nick, it's very much unlikely that the show will ever end.

When I was young, Nickelodeon had The Rugrats, Cat and Dog, Rockos Modern Life, Ren and Stimpy, Angry Beavers, Teenage Robot, Fairy Oddparents, Danny Phantom and Spongebob.

Somebody needs to grant Steven's wish. Make an episode where everything that never happens throughout the series actually happens. Spongebob gets his driver's license, Squidward finally becomes famous for talent, stuff like that. The Best Spongebob Episode Ever Made. A fitting title if this can be done right. The perfect ending to the perfect kids show.

I mostly see YTP's of the original 3 seasons nowadays but yes.

Hillenburg: "I don't want to do a 'babies' spin-off of SpongeBob, it's pointless and would disrespect my creation" Nickelodeon: "Ok man, don't worry" Hillenburg: *dies* Nickelodeon the next day: "This is so sad, we will always remember the laughs he gave us. *SPEAKING OF LAUGHS get ready to laugh at Camp SpongeBob! A new SpongeBob spin-off but they're babies!* "

@Lance Boyle yes, because everyone writes down in their contract, "don't do something I wouldn't do". Yes _technically_ Nick is in their legal right to make Camp Spongebob. And no Steven did not write it in ink never to do it. But it was something he was vocal against, and then to near *immediately* announce a spinoff that the creator would've veto'd after his unfortunate death is downright scummy. To quote The Emperor's New Groove: "Well, he ain't getting any deader!"

@Lance Boyle it's not his fault. Seeing as if you know how a network operates. Even if Hillenburg were able to write down on paper what his wisher we're for the show, they would be veto'd after his death. Because that contract would be void and it would transfer spongebob over to Nick as the full owners. Not only that but you don't get that strong of a say in how a network will run your show. Seeing as they we're making plans to defy him even as he was alive.

Sad what happens to interactive art. It starts out feeling genuine, unique, and full of love.. then it gets broken down, optimized, and terrible. Sad.
