Miku, Rin, Len, and Luka are the only ones who have numbers because they're the only Character banks created by Crypton Future Media! MEIKO and KAITO weren't created by CFM, but by YAMAHA directly (the creators of the VOCALOID software), but YAMAHA gave the distribution rights to CFM for MEIKO and KAITO, and now all six of them are actually not VOCALOIDS at all anymore, and instead are now known as Piapro Characters, because they're being switched over to CFM's proprietary software, Piapro Studio, instead of the original VOCALOID software. people will understandably forever still call all six of them VOCALOIDs, but -technically- speaking, they're not anymore.

Some more context: Yamaha's first voicebanks were Leon and Lola, who were basically faceless voices. After releasing MEIKO and KAITO, Crypton realized that attaching a character to the voicebanks made them much more successful, so they launched the "Character Vocal Series". Those characters got more details such as a full name, age, height and weight. The first one of those characters was Miku, hence CV01.

They also thought hard about Miku's character design and it went through many iterations. She almost didn't get twintails. Other design drafts had a big ponytail and a sharper, more angular silhouette. A few years ago they made those drafts into a full design and released it as "Miku if ver.", together with "if" versions of Rin/Len and Luka.

the surrounding cooler, darker blue also further adds to this effect, making the lighter blue appear MUCH "less cool" (aka warm aka purplish) in comparison even if it's a neutral blue! i love the part of color theory that's more about perception c: color is relative and depends on its context ^^ (search term for further reading: color interactions)

And also - I’m a designer too and have this conversation so often with customers - you can not match colours on screens to physical colours. They are RGB, everybody’s screen is set up differently, it’s impossible.

Juban is basically the Japanese version of a “shift” the layer you wear to protect your good clothes from your skin and is super washable which is nice to know that you get that across countries

I don't want to over complicate the issue, but most juban, especially for formal wear nowadays are silk and not regularly washable. The cotton hada-juban, which is the underwear layer underneath, is washable. I guess it's similar to how visible silk petticoats and washable under layer petticoats exist? Yes, juban started out the equivalent of the shift. Yes, daily wear juban are still made from washable fabric like linen, mosulin wool (not to be confused with cotton muslin), or synthetic fabrics. Yes, it's fascinating how different cultures came up with similar solutions to a common problem.😊 Detachable collars/han-eri and sweepers/fuki&hakkake are also solutions you can find in both western historical fashion and kimono!

I mean, color is relative. In an image it mixes with the surrounding hues, and irl material would likely reflect its surroundings a little. The color picker was likely the best way to objectively gauge the blue, and even then everyone will see it a little differently.

This is the second cosplay video I’ve watched today that features“kimono with poofy skirt” look. (The first being Crescent Shay’s Kokomi cosplay video) To me, this style is associated with Japanese girl groups/idols; which is exactly what Miku is. The costumes for these girl groups almost always features a super short poofy skirt, no matter the style or inspiration. Look up photos of AKB-48 and you’ll get what I mean. The “poofy skirt kimono” style is kind of a mesh of those traditional idol dresses, and Kimono. I’m Japanese, and a new year’s tradition for a lot of us it to watch “Kohaku Utagassen” -a war of the genders style singing competition that’s basically just a big advertisement for everything new in entertainment for the coming year. Anyways, every single one of those big idol groups have a “poofy skirt kimono” look; so as to look festive and traditional for the holiday, but also stay on theme. This is where I imagine Miku wearing the outfit. Side note: My grandmother takes classes for dressing people in kimono, so I’ve been dressed by her many times. Even though I get dressed by her often, it still feels special every time she dresses me. It’s not like she explains what she’s doing, (she’s just not that kind of person) so don’t quote me on this, but “eri” essentially just means collar. The “half kimono underwear thing” that you describe is basically a traditional Japanese Dickey.

For a while I had the mindset that I could pick up sewing and immediately be good at it and would get really frustrated with myself when I would mess up, to the point where I'd give up on even the smallest projects. But seeing one of my favorite cosplayers make mistakes helps me remind myself that nobody's perfect and I shouldn't pressure myself to be. I look up to you so much and probably wouldn't have even considered learning to sew if I had never come across your channel. I hope I'll be able make cosplays as incredible as yours someday! The Snow Miku designs are some of the best official designs out there in my opinion. About the numbers on some of the Cryptonloids, it is just a weird design choice. The Vocaloid softare is from Yamaha, but Miku is from the company called Crypton. Meiko and then Kaito were the first voicebanks from Crypton for the Vocaloid 1 software. Miku, Rin, Len and Luka then came out for the Vocaloid 2 software and because Miku was the first Crypton voicebank of that line, the artist who made all of their official artwork just gave her the number one as a design choice. Rin and Len came out afterwards, so they got the number two and Luka as the last the number three. Snow Miku herself also is the mascot for the yearly winter festival in Hokkaido and originated from a snow sculpture someone made of Miku.

i think the dark blue garment was a very shuffled about hanten, which were used over kimonos during cold weather. they’re stuffed garments with guilting on the inner layer to keep the wearer warm. (i say this bc im wearing one rn and i think a snow character having a hanten makes a lot more sense bc it’s a garment to keep you warm)

OMG the struggle with liningh the sleeves which were supposed to have openings on both sides gave me war flashbacks to my Quinn Cosplay and the weird chaps she wears. I had the EXACT same struggle first and as soon as you pinned both sides and started sewing I literally screamed at the screen trying to stop you and when you started realizing that you can not turn them inside out anymore I broke down laughing being happy that I am not alone in not understanding sewing physics :D Maybe a tip that made it work for me without top stitching: I layed the "sleeves" out the way were supposed to look in the end (the way you lay them out when preparing for a topstitch. Then I pinned them togetehr with the seam allowance flipped inside and after THAT I turned the whole thing inside out. It led to a weird loop but I managed to make it make sense ;) So yeah. Very relatable and lovely vcreation as always sarah!

I thought that the navy blue layer was a take on a Happi(法被/半被)? They are sort of common for festivals so might be super niche but I made that assumption based on size of the garment... Also, having speed setting for machine is something I forget some modern ones don't have. mine is from the 1980's and the pedal works like that of a car, so if press it lightly it goes slowly, like slower than using the handwheel on side.

This video was obviously a labor of love and an amazing ride! The joy of seeing you dance in it, the pride when something works, the devastation and frustration when something doesn't work - watching your videos is such a treat and it always makes me feel almost like I'm there in the studio with you! Incredible job and looking forward to seeing it all together!

I always love watching your videos where you are making cosplays and 'overexplaining'. I recently started making my own cosplays. I've been wanting to for year (been cosplaying for 9 years) but your videos really got me to make that step. My sewing is no where as good as yours but it's so nice to follow your jeurneys and work on my own.

your videos give me so much joy and remind me what i love about cosplay, no matter how much frustration there is in the process it's so worth it to see something beautiful come together. also, i really appreciate that you show all the little mistakes and things that happen while you're creating, i sometimes feel like a total failure when i mess something up but it's nice to know that even the amazing cosplayers i look up to go through the same process of trial and error :D

omg i’m so obsessed with your channel! while i don’t cosplay (and don’t really have a desire to), it’s so helpful to see all of the processes and pick up very useful tips for my own sewing endeavors. you are such an inspiration for me, and you’ve motivated me to make (or at least try to make) my own dress for prom this year. thank you so much for your dedication to the craft, bubbly personality, and content that is a perfect blend of entertaining and educational. i love to watch you and am excited to see your wig and prop videos when they come out. (and my name is also sara, different spelling, but still pretty cool.) I hope you have a great end to the year, and wish you an extremely belated birthday :)

i've been watching your videos while working on my own holmat cosplays for this year. i've genuinely learned so much through your meticulous explaining of what you would think would be common knowledge for crafters, but as someone who never took the time to learn how to do things correctly and has always used garbage and hot glue for the... oh god, 15 years that ive been cosplaying, i'm becoming a better crafter thru your explanations, so thank you for taking the time to explain things the way you do!! i hope to get to say hello to you at holmat and can see snow miku in person!! ALSO the blue in ur hair is so cute!!!!

HOW DO YOU DO IT I'M 18 MINUTES IN AND CRYING ALREADY (it's because you let yourself be vulnerable and you share your feelings in a way that is incredibly easy for me to latch on to which is so so beautiful and such a gift. like. you're entertaining and educational as a youtuber, creative and skilled as a cosplayer and likeable and admirable as a person but it's your genuine emotional authenticity that is the most touching to me. thank you
