There is something about the land; the road and the ocean and the wind is like the end of the earth. You could sail on forever and not get anywhere. That is how i interoperate it. Its an end, kind of reflecting her decision. I know this sounds very artsy and over blown but that's what i feel i guess.

That's the point. Inside of us, the children at the middle of us, just wants happiness and warmth and love. And it's great when it's there, when the beach ball is bouncing around. But that's not all there is to life. There's a bigger game going on in the stadium and at some point we have to face it. We have to take that child and put it aside so that we can grow and move on.

"Why would he wanna do that job?" 1:30 That lines makes everything about Nora's character make so much sense. Her job since the departure has basically been to find fraud in those claiming to be effected by the departure. Nora's whole family, husband, children departed. She's never tried to claim sympathy or fame from the suffering she endures, if anything she craves suffering almost as a form of punishment. That's why she is so vindictive of those who try and use the departure for their benefit. They are the ones throwing the beach ball around, having fun. She is the security guard crushing the beach ball, ending their fun. That's why she breaks down when Lori said if the ball got on the field, it would be fucking chaos. She's telling her that the guard wasn't bad for doing what he did, that the fans weren't bad for doing what they did so that means Nora isn't bad for doing what she did, and the people she outed weren't bad either. But if both were to go unchecked, it would be fucking chaos.

For Nora was this Beach Ball Memory a Memory where she could have a new beginning after the tragedy of her parents because she saw how her Brother smiled after a long time and then this man take it from her. Also when her children and husband departed …. It was a day where she waiting a message for a new job… new start… but the depature of her children ruined that too. I love this scene because Nora told her memory and she focused how she felt in those days. You can see that she act like the child in those days and then Laurie explain her why this man did his job. 😢

Love that analogy! Mine has always been Nora upset that not everyone could go and do what she's about to, that why would those women make it so difficult for people to be happy and reunite with their families (even though it was seemingly a suicide mission)... Laurie, IMO basically said if it was available to EVERYONE, it would be f**king chaos, and it would be!!! Nora then asked Laurie "same time next week" - which IMO was Nora asking Laurie if she was going to do it too - commit suicide (remember Nora telling Laurie how she could fake a scuba diving accident, which she considered, but her kids called when she was about too). Either way, what's so amazing about the show is everyone's interpretation.

I also like this scene, so i'll share my opinion: It's about the "elite" who make the rules versus "the 99%". The usher is like anybody else (a sheep), he's doing the job no matter what. He wouldn't lose his job so he doesn't care to upset everybody. Laurie's explanation is a reference to the "ordo ab chao", basicaly our rulers are using this as an excuse to govern all of us. From their perspective, without them everything would be chaos so they have to make the rules... But the truth is, it's all the way around, they are bringing the chaos and we should, sooner rather than later, bring the order back. As soon as the majority will stop "booing" and instead start acting like decent adult human beings, it won't take long before we will get rid of "them". That's why there is so much entertainment in this world, they know it's easy to mind control children. Of couse there are some people who are not affected by the Peter Pan's syndrome, and are trying to "wake-up" as many people as they can. I'll end this post, which is already too long i guess, by a quote: "it's easier to fool people than to convince them that they have been fooled". Mark Twain. English isn't my native language but hopefully you'll get my point.

The beach ball represents belief/faith. The people playing with it represent the people choosing to believe in religion. The usher represents Nora, whose job is to expose fake prophets, religions, etc. She's coming to terms with the fact that she's finally ready to believe, but is at odds with herself about it because of her job.

The fact that season 3 of the Leftovers wasn't nominated for a single Emmy this year is all the proof you need that these award shows are biased and in the end real artistry is trampled on to serve other political agendas... Yeah, like, the Handmaid's Tale was a decent series, but a single scene from the Leftovers such as the one you saw above crushes that whole show under its emotionally rich boots!

Amen. Justin Theroux not winning for every season let alone ever being nominated is a travesty.

I haven't been able to watch anything since Leftovers. Everything seems contrived. This is the most incredibly honest and vulnerable thing I've seen on television and so beautiful it's fucking painful. This transcends categorization and in a way I'm glad it didn't win any Emmys.

The usher is her. She's asking herself why she has to keep everybody in check and destroy their delusions that they need to tell themselves to make them feel ok. And then in the last episode she creates her own.

Now i can see the confession here. The ball is Nora. She is out of the field since the departure. She can't go back there. The scientists will squeeze her in a few hours. She thinks it's the only way to prevent chaos for her, Kevin and the ones she loves. She choosed to be squeezed whatever it would cost.

how did you guys read laurie's answer to the beach ball story? i feel like it's a way of telling nora that the world isn't against her but sometimes people have their own motives, but i'm not quite sure with that interpretation
