The Leftovers "October 14"
Фильм және анимация
"What is incomprehensible is what is hardest. We cannot support it. We fear the unexplainable like emptiness." -French-Canadian poet and author Louise Bouchard
In "The Leftovers" on October 14, two percent of the world's population disappeared. Nobody knows why and where they went. This brief event changed the world's conception of life. From that day on, nothing was ever under control.
To show the reactions of all the people who experienced this chaotic event chronologically, I created one unique video with all the departures from Season 1.

Nora is my favorite hands down! The moment right before her family vanished you can tell she wished they were gone but immediately regretted it when it came true.

Only being maybe 10% sarcastic, I really don't get why this show has people that watched it! Compared to - Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead, Orange is the New Black, Marco Polo, Vikings, Friends, Simpsons, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Arrested Development, The Office, Mash, South Park, Archer, The Ranch, The Good Place, House, The Enemy Within (and it only has 5 Episodes lol), Burn Notice, Dexter, Charmed, Sabrina (2018) (surprisingly amazing), SNL, all of the Marvel and DC shows from The CW and Netflix, Preacher, Hell on Wheels, Better Call Saul, That 70's Show, Beavis and Butthead, Rome, Rick and Morty, Mr. Show with Bob and David, SNL, House of Cards, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Cowboy Bebop, Futurama, Sword Art Online, Band of Brothers, Westworld, Revolution, Supernatural, the OA, BoJack Horseman, Longmire, MAGI (all of them), Ajin, Dissenchantment, Gilmore Girls, Weeds, the seven deadly sins, Dragon Ball Z (and Dragon Ball, Dragon Ball Super and Dragon Ball GT), the Umbrella Academy, Ash vs. Evil Dead, BAKI, Black Butler, InuYasha, Fate (stay night, apocrypha, zero, lost encore and grand order), Swordgai, Jack Ryan, Psych, Grounded for Life, Burn Notice, the tick, Bob's Burgers, whiskey Cavalier, The Boondocks, The Orville... Still blown away by the editing job done here by my amazing son Jeremy who was only 20 then. We regularly talk about The Leftovers. A exceptional series which was such an impactful family viewing experience.
This show was so fucking devastating, all of it. It broke my heart in any possible way. I've never seen loss and pain conveyed in such a beautiful realistic way. Hands down the best show of its decade.
The greatest introduction in TV series history.
@SelfHatingLionsFan

I'm 4 fucking years late to this party, but the vast majority of these scenes weren't shown until S:1-E:9, "The Garveys at their best." The only part shown in the intro was the mother leaving laundry mat, and ending with the 911 chatter.....however, while the car accident is shown initially, it was only revealed in this Penultimate episode that it was Matt & Mary in the car, also revealing what happened to Mary to leave her in the condition she is in when we meet her character. We had no idea about Laurie being pregnant and literally having the fetus departing inside of her, which again shows us why the sudden departure had such a profound impact on her life, despite not having anyone close to her go poof (at least we thought so) Same with Chris and Jill.....they were both quite literally holding hands with 2 of the departures at that very moment, which even In a world where 2% of the world's population disappeared in the blink of an eye, is pretty fucked up. And if you thought what happened to those 3 members of the Garvey family was messed up, I can promise you that the patriarch of the family, Kevin, had the ultimate mindfuck experience.....as he was balls deep j side that chick in the hotel room, at the moment of her departure. That's what made this thematic choice incredibly successful. When we first meet these characters, 4 years after the event, it's clear right away that this family is barely hanging by a thread, with absolutely no reason to be hopeful that they can hold on long enough to save something that even remotely comes close to an actual family. However, it's hard to see why that is, considering they were all spared that day. Not a single member of their immediate (& presumably their extended) family leaves. Well, by the time the credits begin to roll on on that episode we sure as hell get it then This show was, is, and will always be a straight up fucking masterpiece in every sense of the word. An absolutely brilliant story presented in a way so profound that I lack the vocabulary to properly articulate it. Also, and I'm being 100% serious, Max Richter's soundtrack is the most hauntingly beautiful thing I've ever heard in my life, and for me (and I can assure you that I can speak for nearly everyone who experienced this series) is what makes "The Leftovers" the greatest television series of all time
I forgot how Norma was so ticked off at her kids right before it happens. Sure that had a lot to do with her pain through the series.

Best. Show. Ever.
I worked as an extra on 7 episodes of The Leftovers. It was a great experience being a part of that world.
When Nora lost her family, after being briefly mad at them, I flashed back to "Home Alone": "I made my family disappear!"
1:30 I cannot stop rewatching this part knowing that she was mad at them and that unfortunately that would be the last time she would see any of them.
The town where this video was filmed is Hastings-on-Hudson, New York. I used to work there. I remember when they were filming that scene, I was walking to the train station on my way home from work.
Best TV Show i Ever Seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
After seeing the finale I see the departure as how Nora described it.

Remarkable television.
Goosebumps!
There’s a video that connects all the major characters that either witnessed, were involved in, or were inside the Oceanic 815 flight when it crashed on the island in Lost, which was presented in real time. And this video is the basically the same type of structure but this time it involves the disappearance of 2% of the population and it presents all of the major and minor characters from the Leftovers, who were affected by the shocking event.
The beginning of a masterpiece.
Omfg I cried so hard my pillow is tanning right now

This is great, but it spoils some of the buildup. You don’t know half of these storylines until the end of season 1. We finally get to see where the main characters were at the departure near the season finale and it’s devastating.
@BigV24

The aftermath of grief was a far more interesting topic to delve into in my opinion than the individual storylines. Their response to the rapture was what I was interested in, it was a great commentary on that. Getting the background later in the season was great imo. Added more context but didn’t weigh or slow the show down.

Never Forget October the 14 🇺🇸
I like when cinema has those moments of characters understanding something is going awfully wrong. Like when Chernobyl didn't pick up after a hike in radiation levels in Minsk (obviously, in 2019's Chernobyl), or The Leftovers, that sudden moment of not understanding what is happening and then understanding that something bad happened.
Great video. Thanks for putting it together. It never occured to me until watching this that each of the people in these scenes who lost someone expressed some kind of frustration or regret about the departed before they dissapeared. In Kevin's case, maybe he was regretting who he was with at the moment of departure. I was reading a theory about Laurie's baby not being Kevin's but a result of an affair 😮. Nora and the mom both expressed frustration at their family. If that's what happened across the board, i.e. everyone who disappeared was getting frustration vibes from someone else at the exact moment of departure, it definitely adds to the guillt in guilty remnant :)
We are living reminders
Just brilliant

Manuel Reznor Lol. I know right. I think that Thanos just split it in half. So there is an alternate universe with all the departed including Quill and Black Panther and Spidey. It will allow for a Spiderman free Venom film. It will also allow a Black Panther film that has Peter Quill in it. And Guardians 3 can add other comic-book Guardian alumni for a film. All three movies sharing the same plot device of reversing Thanos work. Thanos will be enjoying the show and may even help out his daughters here and there. It will be explained as a test as well as a way to unite the Avengers after Civil War.

@johncoffey1208

That is a very good question. From a science standpoint, I think we need more data. More than one woman was pregnant on October 14th. Did all of their unborn children disappear? We just don't have enough data to make any conclusions.
I really wonder how lauries baby spawned in the other dimension. Like Nora said that when she crossed over to that world they were living about their days as if everyone else disappeared and they were left behind. So makes me wonder if her fetal just appeared on the bed where Laurie was laying and just died alone since it was no longer in the body? It’s so crazy. The number of people who vanished was low compared to the leftovers so they are literally working by themselves. I wish I could see that dimension instead of Nora talking about it.
