The Left's War on Science

Many in the media say there’s a conservative war on science.
Is this true? No, says John Tierney, Contributing Editor at the Manhattan Institute’s City Journal. Tierney says “the real war on science is the one from the left.”

---------
John Stossel points out that people on the right are more likely to believe in creationism.
Tierney answers, “creationism doesn't… affect the way science is done. I can't find examples where the right-wing stopped the progress of science… whereas you can look on the left and you see so many areas that are taboo to research.”
Gender differences, IQ trends, genetically modified foods. Tierney says the left stifled research into what could have been a second Green Revolution to feed Africa.
People who study gender difference have leaned to keep quiet, says Tierney. “You can't say that there are more men are more aggressive, more risk-taking, that status matters and making money matters more to them.”
Finally, Tierney complains that Universities are utterly dominated by leftists. In the social sciences, Democrats outnumber Republicans by at least eight to one. In some fields like sociology it's 44 to one. Students are more likely to be taught in sociology by a Marxist [25%] than by a Republican [2%].
Tierney says “once an academic department gets a majority of people who are on the left, they start hiring people like themselves, and pretty soon the whole department is that way. They start to think that their opinions and that their interests are not only the norm, but the truth.”
John Stossel says: think about that, next time you hear about a "conservative war on science".

@@hotwax9376 you know that half of that shit is actually true? Yeah, GMOs can be an amazing thing, and I don't like the general hate for it BUT: There's scientific evidence that's homosexuality has a predisposition that occurs genetically. Also yes, life does begin at conceptions. Actually it begins before conception, as even the sperm cells are, by scientific definition, alive. However, it's nothing less than perfect irony that especially people like you are advocating for organisms without a brain to be recognized as human beings...

@run teldat yeah I know, but that's not the GMO parts, that's the pesticide part. Same with antibiotics in meat, they just pump it full so no cow gets sick. How it effects the people eating it is not really part of the profit margin. That's my big problem with libertarianism. Corporations will fuck you over as soon as they get the chance to (if it's profitable for them), so we need something to keep them in check. I'm all for capitalism, but as with sports, you need a referee for when the other team isn't playing fairly. And that referee is a properly democratically elected and balanced state (not like in the US)

No one doubts that hard work (and good gut bacteria) is important in life, but me and many people can do better if we had good genes. Do you think the top 1% is trying to a keep a monopoly on good genes so they don't have competition? The gender thing is valid. Gender is subjective and there is a spectrum from seeing yourself as a straight male or female to whatever, you see, it's subjective. Your biological sex is generally binary with humans being either male or female. But there is still a grey area even in biology however rare it may be. It seems there is a schism between left and right ideologies and in a sense, both are correct but what each side holds as absolute truth is not so absolute. What the real arguments are between left and right, despite both sides being confused about "sex vs. gender" are more normative and how they deal with gender issues. For instance, the left would say that the trans woman (gender identity is woman, but sex is male) should not be allowed to play in woman's sports. I believe the right is correct to say that "her" biology would give "her" an unfair advantage in strength as males are generally physically stronger than females. But, the left would be correct that trans or homosexuals should not be forced to conform to the right's notion of identity matching exactly with binary sex of male or female. This is because it is actually the case that science shows that homosexuality and your perceptions are based in biology as is easily shown in nature that homosexuality isn't only a human phenomenon.

While I was obtaining my education, in the early undergrad day's I was continuously bombarded by leftist professors from sociology to speech that the United States was so unfair to everybody but white males. I had a speech professor that spewed so much leftist dribble that even though I was averaging a B+ average in my studies, mind you I was playing the game, I finally could not take it any more and challenged the professor during one of her dribble sessions and that was it from that point on I could see her hatred for my point of view that it made for a really interesting semester. Thankfully, once I was finished with my undergraduate work and actually entered into grad school and started work in my major molecular biology it seemed to be night and day, although I still ran into liberals here and there for the most part the professors and students were more on the conservative side. It's my personal opinion that if a university want's public funds that they should show that their professorship shows a healthy array of political opinions so that the student's get exposed to many different political views because look around what we're seeing today is what happens when your exposed to only one viewpoint. _The right dislikes science too, look at Climate change denial._ For the love of god and all that is holy. NOBODY denies that the climate is changing. What we all take umbridge with is the idea that the climate is changing because of man-made fossil fuels when all of the data is corrupted and the models don't allow for change. ALL of the data surrounding climate change has been tempered with in some way. people who support it do so because government gives them grants for doing it. and denies grants for disagreeing. it's a horrible problem. The sciences get bullied for money does that seem at all safe? Heres the actual truth. NOBODY knows what the fuck is going on. Climate is unpredictable Climate has always been unpredictable thats why every model says something different (but catastrophic) but NOTHING has changed. man cannot make Life-lasting" changes to it unless somebody decides to set off a super-volcano with a nuke or something. Why the hell would anybody take the shit these clowns say seriously? for over 40 years now they've been promising disaster and none has come. the sea level has remained the *exact same* They feel just fucking dandy setting up offices on the water in places like NYC and they preach that the oceans are rising and it's too late. it's been too late for 10 years now. They said the ice sheet was gettingthinner........then it got thicker. Now theres more ice there than before. FRemember when they said we'd be hit by hurricanes nonstop back in 2006? there was an 8 year drought of Hurricanes in the US. We only got hit by superstorms which are bad, but they're not hurricanes. The data for these storms is all over the place and it will continue to be all over the place. Don't get any of us wrong. I'm just fine with effective green energies I don't think we should pee in our pool like China and India. I think we should encourage green energies that actually make a difference. There are many policies that DON'T make a difference or make something worse. Like how they wanted to ban plastic strrws and replace them with..... paper straws (trees). Or how everyone wants solar panels but theyre made with rare earth metals. or how everyone says to recycle but the industries around it have created enough polution to nullify the point of recycling? ......But that doesnt mean government should step in step on all of our rights and scare people with this shitty hysteria. The video in link [2] is from 2017, 2 years before AOC and her green new deal. this woman seriously purposed to replace Planes with Trains, and to rebuild every house in the US in 10 years *THE WORLD GONNA END IN 12 YEARSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!! DONT HAVE CHILDREN, BUT WE NEED OPEN BORDERS TO 3RD WORLDERS WITH NO SENSE OF ECOLOGICAL RESPONSIVILITY TO REPLACE THE US WORKERS*! Cause that makes sense. Man-made Climate change is a HOAX. Deal with it. [1]www.petitionproject.org/signers_by_last_name.php?run=all [2]kzread.info/dash/bejne/dYVklspxpceuo9I.html [2.5]conservativeammo.com/Environmental/ Also there are left-wing anti-vaxxers too. In fact most people I've spoken to refer to them as hippies. Your mileage may vary. The science behind the effectiveness of Vaccines does vary so I think healthy skepticism of the things you put in your body is OK. I certainly don't think the government should penalize you for refusing to inject something into your body. And giving the government that power is very dangerous. This is where the issues lie. if you wanna vaccinate yourt kid. Do it. But don't walk around demanding other people be forced into doing something they don't want to do. And your lopsided justification of "health risk" is something that goes back centuries in human history and tends to lead to some of the *worst* oppression mankind has ever faced.

_"you missed the biggest conspiracy of all: religion."_ This is short-sighted. Depending on how a philosopher interprets it, all God really is is the absolute Truth (With a capital T) The Truth comes in many names and faces but it is fundamentally "the truth" many athiests believe science is "the truth" the big 3 believe _He That Which he is_ A cynnical or nihilistic worldview would say that religion is formed for power's sake. What I've discovered is even when there isn't an organized religion people will build a very similar philosophy regardless. THAT would be in my eyes the Stoa (Stoics) Christianity takes a lot from stoic philosophy. Eastern Philosophy is that but flipped on it's head. The reason is, without a "Truth" to guide oneself toward you're inviting in depression and unhealthy habbits that which are detrimental to a functioning society. and you're losing purpose. Place a responsibility that ascends the self (talk of lineage for instance, inheritance, Truth etc) into the mix and you have a productive society. Productive ideologies build productive societies. Good religion strikes a balance between individual choice, and duty. We live in a rather nihilistic society nowadays..... our birth rates and productivity have declined. IKIK correlation =/ causation. Still the idea that religion is fundamentally a conspiracy (in a negative fashion) is a strawman. Religion like any powerful thing can certainly be misused. people can create them without the purest of intentions (Mohamed created a religion of War or L. Ron Hubbard or _those dirty sophists)_ but that is not what religion is. I'm not particularly religious I'm certainly not a christian. but I am a spiritualist because world philosophy is AWESOME.

What are schools and young parents teaching their children? Is it possible that all the technology we are bombarded with is negatively impacting our ability to reason?

Everything spoken about in this video just makes sense. The differences between genders. This may be a bit of an extreme example I get into a car crash, the car catches fire, the police are the first on the scene. Which would you rather see coming out of the squad car? A man or a woman, to pull you out of the burning wreck. Thanks for the video John. I've been a big fan of your work for years even as a kid, I was kind of a news junkie even as a kid I I was watching the news and reading the paper. Just be open minded to ideas from the other side. Weigh them on the merits of facts without bias. Problem solved. The left AND the right are not correct all the time. Dont blindly support an idea just because it comes from your side of the isle. Learn critical thinking and logic. That being said, historically speaking liberalism always wins in the end.

Though the general principle is sound: more freedom is typically better.
