The Left Hinge Line | Combination for Waltz or Foxtrot

Фильм және анимация

Another classic Line Move, as part of our Line Moves Glossary! The Left Hinge Line is part of a family of Line Moves that includes figures such as the Throwaway Oversway, the Hover Corte, and the rare X-Line. Technically, the Hinge Line exists to the Left and to the Right, but the distinction between the Right Hinge Line and the Same Foot Lunge is murky. The Left Hinge Line, however, can best be described as a Left Whisk for the Lady and a Throwaway Oversway for the Man.

I love this, it's very elegant. For myself snd my partner to use this in a closed amateur competition. What could we use from this?

Yes, this combination is NOT syllabus approved, these moves are all considered Open Level and is quite a difficult combination. We try to flash a symbol for the syllabus levels for our closed combinations, or specify when combinations are NOT syllabus approved like this one. :)

Thanks guys love your tutorials. I’ve heard from other teachers the timing for double reverse overspin they use is 1+2+3 or 1 2+3+. Whereas you use 1 2+a3. Does it really matter or do you work out what suits the couple. Loved the explanation of the hinge line, best I’ve seen online.

Wow so much cool details on the hinge line and how it differs from other figures like throwaway oversway, hover, left whisk etc. Thank you both for pointing out the differences in the lead and the follow. I know the focus is on the hinge, but wanted to ask a question on the double reverse. Kora, if you were to dance with an unfamiliar partner let’s say in social dance and the leader wants to do a overturn double reverse spin instead of a regular reverse spin turn, how would you adjust on the fly with the extra step and the timing?

That's a great question! First of all there would be a greater acceleration at the beginning of the Double Reverse, especially as the lady dances her side cross, which would the difference in timing. Furthermore, the rise and fall is different in the Overturned Double Reverse. I believe Simeon described it more in detail in our Throwaway Oversway tutorial, so definitely check that one out. But essentially, instead of rising as the lady dances her side step on the "&" of count 2, you would stay down until the "a" of 2, rise quickly on that "a" in order to lead the lady to continue rotating, and lower in a downward corkscrew motion during the Reverse Pivot on count 3. Hope that makes sense!

Hey there! We just get excited, there's so much to teach! You can also slow down the video under your video playback settings to .75 or .5 of the speed, that should help!
