You can tell Peter Muller's character was heavily influenced in design by the legend him self Erwin Rommel. Rommel did not agree with Hitler's ideologies and racism, but he was the greatest tank general/strategist and proved himself through both world wars. Rommel was conflicted throughout the war just like Muller, and was forced to commit suicide(1944) for defying Hitler and plotting against him.

@@west6682 Every higher up was a "friend" to Hitler and of course was involved with the Nazi party. But guess he was friend enough to be involved in his assassination attempt that led to his death? Rommel defied Hitler a lot when it came to strategies and calls and Hitler didnt like it. Rommel also didn't believe in his race war. Youre coming off as "nazi = bad". Which is a generalized and uneducated view. Not everyone is the same due to their affiliations.

Rommel never committed suicide. After the bomb plot in 1944, he was accused of being a supporter and after talking briefly to his aid, son and wife, got in a car with some SS guys, and had the choice to be shot or take a cyanide capsule, pretty sure he took the latter so it was kinda suicide but not straight up, it was one or the other. The story of what he said to his son is actually documented and shared by his son after the war I believe. Sad story indeed

I finished it about 30 minutes ago it is dark. I love the story this is by far the best war story in my opinion

@@happyferret1 Because the laws were different back then. Most countries are increasing censorship now. Some devs make two versions of a game and most make one because it's cheaper to produce. Also you do realize that Call of Duty Vanguard and Call of Duty WW2 also censored swastika's right? They also did a lot of other stupid shit that people seem to only get mad at BF5 about like customization...

Just google how many tank aces Germans had. The most famous Michael Wittmann is known for his ambush of elements of the British 7th Armoured Division, during the Battle of Villers-Bocage on 13 June 1944. While in command of a Tiger I tank, he destroyed up to fourteen tanks and fifteen personnel carriers, along with two anti-tank guns, within the space of fifteen minutes

Had a neighbor his father fought during the WWll. As a German he had pride of his country. Now with all this pc bull crap going on. Many over there don't anymore. Goes with a lot of European countries. The English and Irish still show country patriotism when I vacationed there.

Would be fucken amazing if Battlefield would introduce naval engagements like in Bf 1 with destroyers and dreadnoughts and we like got to play as maybe Bismarck and operations rheinburg? or as bombers during the blitz? or the russian campaign? no game has ever touched those battles in a story mode. Only in like multiplayer for example : World of Warships, War thunder with the bombers? and maybe World at War as a russian.

It’s a sad war story a country torn by war owned by hell fire and a tank crew trying to figure out the sense of it all a captain wondering if he really is on the right side a young boy scared to fight not knowing what to do a gunner sworn by oath but under confusion of his commander a driver who knows his ending and gave up on his already dying country it’s a sad story very grim and dark

No the young boy that lived in the end was still a coward, just not in the traditional sense. He grew up conforming to the ideology, a place where he truly felt like he belong, only to see the atrocity of this ideology all around him. He refused to see the lies in the ideology and at every step tried to rationalise the reality around him by using a us against them mentality to justify the actions of the Germans. However, he still hang on that at least Muller would be with him. And when Muller surrendered. The boy then realised he was truly along and would rather die and kill than admit the lies of the ideology. So yes, he was a coward, sort of.

Orange Man Bad it isn’t exactly a story but BFV also had a good prologue minus its inaccuracies

I actually skipped all the gameplay parts, and the final is something special, I almost felt like that german man put in a war that he could not win, and let him see his friends die. The part that rapresents war at its most is when he surrend but suddently gets shot by friendly fire, a well done story!

No, those final gunshots were definitely MP-40 (the gun the kid is holding). BF1 also had a story from someone who definitely died ("The Runner"). I imagine that instead of Muller directly telling us the story, it is told from his journal entries or something similar.

I read somewhere that 90% of the people a study interviewed said they would resist/rebel under the circumstances of Nazi Germany, while 90% of Germans at the time supported the party.

Members of my family fought for Germany, they fought for their country and because they had no choice. I think most of german soldiers were not nazis. They were just common men. I did not play it yet, but I think this must be the story of a soldier, not a nazi. I think we can just respect the sacrifice of many people on every side without getting into politics and making al russian soldiers communists or all german nazis... Or all allied good. My opinion.

Many of my relatives served in WW2. Some pilots some tankers others infantry. Even though they might have fought for the wrong side in some people's minds they still put their lives on the line for the great or good of their people and their country. May they rest in peace.

Mein Gott. This is War Stories done right. Nazi germany was certainly an evil regime, but it is good to see a campaign from their perspective. This is a welcome change that adds a layer of depth to the wermacht and portrays german soldiers as human beings. This is a departure from the wermacht's usual portrayal in media as cartoon villains with zero personality. The best war story in the game by far.

Man, that part at the 38-minute mark gave me feels. It makes you realize that this stuff actually happened, that people had to go through that... This war story is great definitely the best one yet. I know people may be mad that the Elite Tiger Tank Crew started to question their beliefs but I think any human being would at that point.

The circumstances under which they questioned their beliefs are understandable and further paint them in a human light, which reflects well in comparison to what many probably feared. The immense pressure that the Nazi ideology placed upon them was, all moral discussion aside, simply too much to bear when they were thrown against the well-demonstrated supremacy of the Allies on the battlefield - and after that, they only sought to lay down their arms. Much better than the crew deciding to defect to the allies due to some ankle-deep moral revelation about nazis being bad Seeing DICE's treatment of the Empire campaign in the recent star wars game (where you defect to the rebels not even halfway through) made me fearful for this story but it seems they corrected their mistake and truly delivered here

You can see that Schorner is confused and scared when they arrive at the cathedral and find out there is no defence or reinforcement: Just wasteland. Schorner tries to understand yelling "Where's the big defence?" "What is happening?"

Not only in battlefield, last tiger is the best single campaign ever in the entire human fps games

Would be better if it was an entire campaign instead of only one war story. The plot developments are a bit too fast to flush out the characters.

War stories do have this limit but I think it's for the best. perhaps they could be a bit longer but not too much is necessary. War stories overall are a good way to showcase multiple fronts of the conflict and also deliver concise stories without stretching storylines beyond their limits. Plus it allows extra campaigns to be added post-release as was done here. DICE dropped the ball big-time by deciding to not make an american or soviet war story to go with the updates that will add them to the game

I'm just here spending one hour of my life watchting someone else play the war story I just finished...

The most gritty campaign I played. I loved the lighting at the end, the fire and the night. The commander had a special look to him, very war-torn and that’s a nice detail from Dice.

Damn, this was sad. Make me realize that not all the Germans were monsters. They were just scared men thrown into battle, not wanting to fight. In the end they knew they were done for. Good job dice

What I like and realized a few hours after watching this, that each side character is a metaphor for Peter's moral and belief during the War and his end. Here's what I thought of: They establish that the Gunner boy who really hates "traitors" is the metaphor for how the higher ups (mostly Hitler) made him believe that this is a just cause and must stand for Germany till their death, not matter what. Even using his 'words of wisdom' to sacrifice the radio boy to scout out the area. Eventually sacrifices his friend, the driver and maybe Peter when he was still fighting the Americans near the end. And his driver, his friend, is his common sense and good moral on leaving this war and not kill themselves for practically nothing. And the radio boy was the representation of his younger self, the one who was in the candy store story in the intro. Did nothing wrong, but still was punished, because he was in the wrong place, wrong time. I don't know if Peter survived, but if he did, maybe is linked to some character that was in later games. Maybe a Uncle, or something.

there is theories that the guy you play in the tank mission in the desert in battlefield 3 is related to Peter cuz he has the last name Miller and many soldiers after the war moved to America with American names so changing from Müller to Miller isn’t that far of a guess also you probably won’t even see this reply because at the time I’m writing this the comment was posted over a year ago

The little boy never mentioned racialism, but he was indeed against surrender. Considering the fate of over 1.5 million germans soldiers that surrendered he may have had some reason. Germany should have surrendered in 1942, or better never get involved on this madness. Ironically I believe they would have won without firing, considering their industrial capacity they would have taken over european economy like they have done today.

Yes they are...they served in NAZI Germany, they had political officers in every battalion whos job was to make sure everyone was a nazi among the ranks.

I finished the story earlier today and oh boy is it awesome. It truly feels like WW2. It truly has the vibe of being in a tank in 1945, as a nazi soldier. The feeling is truly amazing. They nailed the story. Absolutely astonishing. Only about one hour, but better than any story based game I've ever played. The ending is so dark and portrays how horrible WW2 and the nazis were. It truly was something I've never experienced before. Thank you DICE for bringing back hope for the best WW2 game.

I was in my favorite tank (an almost unstoppable behemoth) and I was having so much fun, but at the same time, I just felt the feeling of defeat, like everything I was doing was useless. DICE truly did an amazing job here.

The best story indeed, but think it's a bit to short. I mean for a crew (or at least two) that served the war together, the change of mind seems a bit rushed. But I'm glad that it's not the "Ops, we're the bad guys? lets swith sides!"-Approach is.

The end is epic, always that slowmo life ending in movies and now in games too. =D

its not actually the nazis, its the Wehrmacht (btw this is legit my favourite war story its so entertaining but also so dark and meaningful and that ending tho, wtf)

It s not like the wermacht hasn't its shares of crimes, especially the killing of jews in the eastern front. However not all of them were monsters, most of them were indeed conscripts forced to fight and die.

You can still call the Wehrmacht Nazis since the Wehrmacht was formed only in Nazi rule and since their leadership are Nazis. But not to an individual level.

The best story I ve seen in this Battlefield

This is my favorite war story in the game, great acting and cutscenes made me start to care about them and the story made me remember that not all of the nazi’s weren’t bad people, most were just following orders and didn’t know what they were getting into and that made me care about them and when the ending came I was kind of sad to see them die like that, they deserved better

I really enjoyed this Best Story of all

At the beginning he talks in past tense ("I was there"..), like a veteran telling his story. I like to believe that he survived.

The opening cinematic is actually almost as wrong as can be. By 1945 the 76mm on the Easy 8 could penetrate the frontal armor of a tiger at 700m. Earlier in the war the Firefly could knock out a tiger at even further ranges. The Tiger was fantastic until mid 43 when it really started to show it's weakness in non sloped armor. Not to mention the Allies had air superiority and tankbusters could be called in to take them out without risk to the tankers. If the tiger even got to the Battle in the first place (mechanical issues were the bane of all German armor) it would find it's self extremely short on ammo, fuel, and trained crews. For example when Michael Wittman died. The Sherman has a reputation of being extremely bad but most of that came from German policy of shooting a tank until it caught on fire so it could never be recovered and the armor received a good upgrade after the initial M4. Not to mention the Hellcat, Wolverine, or the Jackson

I agree with you, also uniforms they were are unauthentic for tankers, and tiger tanks always operate in groups wtf that tank doing alone in the city's streets. And spead of turret rotation put M1 Abrams to shame.

@@chost-059 It depends on distance and ammo type. AP within 500 meters out of a Firefly definitely could. And they'd aim at the side since it's side armor is so poor

While everyone is scratching DICE's balls over how good this war story is, I must be the voice of reason. THIS WAR STORY HAS SO MANY HISTORICAL INACCURACIES IN THE FIRST 2 MINUTES ALONE! I will number them off. 1: When it said " A Tiger Crew would often run out of ammunition before the enemy ran out of tanks" my heart dropped, but there was still hope. While I will not say German Tiger Tanks NEVER ran out of ammo, I'd say it's far less likely then this quote makes it seem. 9/10 the tank broke down, or ran out of fuel (especially towards the end of the war) and were abandoned. Not the worst one, but this started it all. 2: The Tiger tank shoots at the rear tank in the British Armored column. WTF? If you shoot at a convoy you want to shoot the first tank in order to stop the convoy, THEN the rear tank so they can't retreat. Fury made this same mistake. 3: THE TANK LEFT ITS COVER! I mean the Tiger had strong armor during the early stages of the war, but really? The damn tank was in a hull down position meaning the British tank only had the tank's turret to shoot at. Being in this position gave the Tiger such a huge advantage over the British tanks as the tank is much smaller then the whole tank, and the turret face usually has more armor then the hull face. Again, Fury made this same mistake, beginning to see a pattern.

Jurassic Park III Velociraptor The 'tank' that was leading the column was a puny light tank that had the least amount of threat. And why would you bother disabling a moving column if you're just going to end up charging them anyway? I understand your point about historical inaccuracies, but they shouldn't dictate a video game involving a magical tank with regenerative metal plating that can take on an entire American attack force.

Its true the tiger wasent perfect and on their first mission all tanks broke down because the germans used them on the wrong terrain however at the battle of kursk the 505th heavy tank division managed to destroy 111 enemy tanks in just two days. In the second battle of Ladoga a few Tiger tanks managed to destroy 160 Tanks.
