That scene was probably my favourite thing they added to the show that wasn’t in the game (at least to my recollection). It could’ve easily come off as cheesy but pedro really pulled it off and I remember me and my family all unanimously went “awww” ☺️

His chemistry with Bella Ramsey is what keeps me watching and the acting is so good between them. Without this, I don’t see how this wouldn’t be any different than some generic Show about a girl going on a rampage. Dime in a dozen of that around.

The scene where he comes up behind her after she killed David and she's just been through that entire situation and once she realizes it's Joel she tries to convey what happened or tell him something, anything at all but her emotions get the best of her and she lunges in to hug him was an outstanding performance by the young actress. I was impressed how she decided not to say anything cliché or whatever and instead opted out to mumble/stammer/choke up with emotion and Pedro knew the angle well enough to know to reassure her with "it's ok, I got you babygirl" like he called Sarah. Frikin goosebumps.

Literally one of my absolute favorite Joel and Ellie details that doesn't get mentioned enough is that whole scene in Ep 5 (that's included in this video), where Joel is watching over and protecting Ellie from the sniper spot. He is protecting her the entire time, and doesn't even realize Henry and Sam are in danger until Ellie gets over to them.

Sure he was ready to protect her from day one because she's just a kid the same age as his daughter, but to me he really started loving her during the two Henry and Sam episodes, you can really see him shake with fear when he's shooting to protect her from the infected, and when Sam gets shot you can see he was probably going for a hug before being stopped by Henry. I think the fact that she literally saved his life helped too.

Maybe subconsciously. She probably reminded him of her in some small way and when the guard tried to kill her the fatherly instincts came back. I think he didnt realize it until the panic attacks started.

I think 6:40 is my favorite deviation from the game. In the game, after Ellie shoots the guy, Joel yells at her for taking his gun and almost shooting him. Instead, he's thankful for her saving him, but regrets that she had to be put in that position, and it turns into the first real bonding moment between the two of them.

This was gold! Exactly the compilation I need after finishing the show. The only part missing was when Ellie laid her head on Joel’s chest while he was passed out from the infection… I remember watching that for the first time and feeling so scared for her, feeling how much she loves and needs Joel.

"Everyone loved contractors" The contractors are probably laughing at this joke the hardest.

I find it so funny that the two most (currently) iconic roles this man has played has been Reluctant Dad.

I love that small interaction in the stables when Joel is hanging about not wanting to really leave her and says you deserve a choice and almost straight away Ellie throws her backpack at him to go with him. Even after all she heard and that Joel doesn’t want to get her accidentally killed, Ellie still trusts him more than anyone and he’s not ready to let go yet.

From the moment of 12:07 when Joel says "Look..." shattered me, I already broke when we see Joel step into the frame and grab Ellie but that moment...man.

The flashback scene was one of the most realistic depictions I’ve ever seen of that panic. The fear of seeing exactly what you saw before disaster is so accurate, and the sound of your heartbeat in your ears when you know exactly what is about to happen because it’s happened before. Ugh i love this show!!

their chemistry on the show seems so genuine, I especially like the parallels between his daughter and Elle, except with Elle it's more adult jokes and burns but with his daughter it was more sweet than anything haha this show is awesome and I've never played the game so this is all new to me

Season 2 of this show is going to be crazy emotional for a lot of people

One thing I noticed about this is when Joel comforts her by saying "oh, baby girl". This is when you can tell that Joel really sees Ellie as a daughter, because in the first episode with Sarah, he calls her "baby girl" too. After being together for so long, Joel finally is coming to realise how much Ellie is to him. And you can really see it goes both ways! You can tell by the way Ellie is comforted by the hug and that she feels safe with him. Phenomenal acting! Both Bella and Pedro did a fantastic job portraying their characters!

Thank you for that compilation… my ❤needed it.. I miss them already.. just picturing them bonding and living happily at the sheep ranch 🥹

i like how when ellie was asking if he knew where to go outside and if they were gonna be okay, he was annoyed at first but once she was like “so we’re gonna be okay?” he saw that she was scared and his demeanor softened as he reassured her

It's not until I watched this video I feel like I noticed Ellie and Joel look younger in episode 1-2 in comparison to what they look like at the end of season 1. I know some time has passed, but still I feel like I see a clear difference.

Episode 3 Ellie tell Joel he should have lied about the danger when they were approaching the open graveyard. Episode 6 Ellie tells Joel he should have lied about how the dam works because she would have believed him. Episode 9 he finally does what she said.

Insane person, best dad

I will say that ellie’s season 2 actions make sense to me because she learned violent justice from her dad loll

Elva- I was afraid to watch it as well because I scare easily and actively avoid scary shows. But - once I made it through the first show, I realized that the focus is Not on the various creatures. There are several episodes with just one or two creatures. The focus is very much on Joel and Ellie: how their experiences formed who they are, how they react to a variety of challenges (periodic flashbacks explain past experiences that affect current behaviors, etc) and the development of their relationship. Each episode is really well written and presents new challenges and new twists. After viewing, I think more about each episode than almost any show I’ve ever watched. PS I’m 71 so if I can watch it, you can, too!

I love that sometimes in the moments where things are serious and he remembers that she’s just a kid is just so sweet. Such uncontrived acting on pascals part he really is a amazing actor.

Anybody noticed, that in the hospital Joel did exactly the same thing Ellie's mother did, saved Ellie sacrificing cicadas? The umbilical cord was cut AFTER mother was bitten, so there was a possibility that baby is infected! But mother LIED to cicadas, puttin them at risk, just to give her daughter a chance. That is what a real parent does - saves the child no matter what, it's not only about love, but also instinct. They’re good at acting. Bella Ramsey is genderfluid in real life. They prefer They/Them. But then again, they don’t really care what they are called by, so I guess she works. They just don’t like being called a girl because no matter what they are called by, they aren’t a girl.

Exact reason why I'm not watching season two lol got spoiled and it just ruined it for me. I loved all the other characters in this - mainly Sam& Henry - but the real reason why I got so invested was Joel & Ellie

@@carastone3473 i hope that "a bit" is a lot iyk what i mean, i'm fine with all the Abby, the travelling between small cultish communities, fine with people found their one person they want to save and protect etc, but I just want Joel and Ellie being dad and daughter, and for once, let Ellie be a lucky kid in the post-apocalypse world bc...? she's been through a lot and traumatized a lot, let her have Joel please?

I finally just watched this series. it's a bomb! the relational evolution between joel and ellie is finely done. the mutual attachment that is built between them is reinforced with each ordeal they encounter. very endearing characters. I do not know the video game but I became addicted to this series.
