My general rule with any tv show is I give it 4 episodes to decide to keep watching it or not, because a show needs time to introduce all of the major characters, get the story going, & allow enough time to raise the stakes for action & drama to emerge. After 4 episodes, I can honestly say I love this show & will keep watching.

I just wanna say hats off to the actor who played Bryan. He made that scene much more brutal and realistic than it needed to be.

@@Hellohellonada it is post society apocalypse, he had no idea what he was doing. And was young, thus crying for his mother when he realized he was about to die. Brutal and realistic. Also Joel and Ellie kinda had to kill him to protect themselves. There were no winners in that situation.

Ellie's pun book is one of the best parts of the game as well - she pulls it out and reads from it at various points of downtime in the game and there's even a game achievement to hear all of her puns. This episode is also where we first start to see how the story is really "Joel and Ellie's story" of broken people finding family - Joel is slowly letting his guard down and slowly starting to care a little about Ellie and we get to see little smiles and laughs that Ellie is (very) slowly helping to tease Joel's humanity back out of him. Pedro Pascal is the master of "hardened loner man has to be a reluctant surrogate father to a child and take them on a journey" characters.

I'm loving this show more and more each episode. The bonding Joel and Ellie are starting to have is so beautiful to watch

In Joel’s defense, he drove across 2/3 of the US, hadn’t slept In 2(ish) days, fought off a bunch of dudes AND walked up 30+ flights of stairs. *I’d be out for like 2 months if I did that*

Amazing acting

A siphon is a tube that allows liquid to travel upward, above the surface of the origin reservoir, then downwards to a lower level without using a pump. As soon as I saw her pull out *THE* joke book I actually threw my fists sky high. And I’m so glad that they added the diarrhea joke because I was afraid they would *run* out of ideas. But seriously, this show is so insanely faithful to the game that it doesn’t feel like a show but almost like and expansion pass/extended cut of the game. Even though I do miss the scene of Joel teaching Ellie how to use a rifle and then saying “No matter what happens, you make every show count” I still love him teaching her how to use the pistol because a) it shows the bond between these two growing and b) it tells the audience that Ellie had some training from FEDRA so her learning quickly feels natural. And now we are getting to see the more human side of the people who were trying to kill Joel and Ellie in Kansas City (instead of Pittsburgh like in the game). Neil Druckman and Craig Mazin said their inspiration came from how throughout history there have been cases where the revolution that usurps a repressive regime becomes just as bad if not worse than the previous regime. Also loved that we got to see Jeffery Pierce (aka Tommy from the games) finally show up in the show as Perry the bearded right hand man of Kathleen!👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

The people who constantly want violent and infected don't understand that every time they are shown, it decreases the impact everytime. Having infected every episode decreases their impact on the world and you as a viewer. Same goes with violence.

Very true. Not being afraid to focus entire episodes on characters over infected is what makes this show stand out in an otherwise played out genre. The infected actually feel dangerous, and the amazing character development/arcs cause me to get so much more invested in where the story goes. Bravo to HBO, I haven't enjoyed very much "zombie" stuff in years outside TLoU games and maybe the early seasons of TWD. This show is something special tho, and it's great seeing so many new ppl fall in love with this world.

Joel going around popping of 20+ hunters or infected would just ruin what they have going on here. Next episode looks like it should satisfy the infected request

Honestly, the restraint with the gore and the big infected is reserved on the most impactful moments. I feel like for a show, overusing this will feel tedious and too gratuitous over time. Pretty cool both on budget and story telling perspective imo.

I bet that the bloater that was underneath the rubble in the room is actually Kathleen's brother.

My kid started yelling at me because he wanted to play in the park. I let it slide.

I'm convinced that the scene with Joel and Ellie losing it at her diarrhea joke is just pure Pedro and Bella being their chaotic selves. 😂

Been loving following along with Greg and Andrew. Being a big fan of the game it’s like geeking with friends. When I come to Jon and Tara’s reactions it’s like watching the show with my wife right now who has always had a problem approaching games. She loves the show and it’s so cool seeing everyone’s reactions.

It’s funny, as someone who’s played the game countless times and knowing the story beats by heart. I initially preferred Greg’s reaction. We had the same knowledge and context going in. But I’m overjoyed getting to watch with you guys, who haven’t played the game and are discovering the story for the first time.❤

Been thinking a lot about how The Last Of Us is “zombie” in the way zombies were before Romero changed the way we looked at them. Zombies were people being used as puppets/slaves by some entity… and that’s what the cordyceps infected are. They aren’t merely “living dead,” but living bodies being used as transport for the fungus. And they use the abilities humans give them the same way they use ants. It’s SO COOL.

Yeah, they arent really living dead at all and ppl thinking of them as "zombies" has them all confused about how everything works in this world. Dead people dont rise, they dont come back to life. They get taken over from inside their brains while they're alive and the fungus keeps the bodies alive, but once they die, theyre dead.

I can’t stop watching reactions to these episodes.. and y’all’s reactions have been one of my absolute favorites to watch every single week. I know I can’t ever experience Joel & Ellie’s story for the first time again, but this is as close as I can get, and it feels like such an amazing gift that you’re sharing it with us. It’s like I get to vicariously experience the story for the first time again. It’s awesome how close you both get with your guesses of what’s coming! No spoilers but I know we have a group reservation and the only thing on the menu is pain & heartache.. I’ll be glad to have John & Tara to experience it with.

Like I said on Greg & Andrew’s video, I really like that you guys are doing these reactions separate. I wasn’t able to play the game because it triggered my vertigo, so I appreciate hearing Greg & Andrew’s insight into the game. But I’m loving these videos with the two of you. The diarrhea joke was the best

I like the part with the dude begging for his life. Yeah he's a mook and doesn't matter in the grand scheme of the story and by the end, they'd probably dispatch a dozen like him at least. Still, it was kinda unsettling without showing anything.

What I appreciated most about that scene was that it really shows how bad things have become with this particular group when they're sending out people who are still basically scared little kids who don't fully understand what they're being sent out to do. Dude broke my heart.

I'm really loving this show and I haven't even played the game yet, This show is making me look even more forward to playing it. With that guy Brian what made that scene worse was he asked for his mommy before Joel took care of him. One thing that I'm hoping is that with the change of what happened in Bill and Frank's story that I would love to see happen. People have mentioned Bill in the game journeying with Joel and Ellie for a while so I thought since the change with Bill and Tess as well as other minor changes have made this like a multiverse version of the game. They could make changes for Bill not being with them by having it be Henry and Sam. I keep getting the feeling that something bad happened with Henry and his brother Sam in the game so having them take up Bill's spot in the game and travel with Joel and Ellie for a while like two or three episodes give us more time with them before something happens or even not have them die at all if that was their fate in the game. They probably won't do that, but it would be nice to see. Maybe we'll get an 1 hr 20 min backstory on them like with Bill and Frank for episode 5 and come back to this part of the story episode 6. I really enjoyed the episode and reaction 👍☝✌ out.

In the fame if you maim someone they will beg for their life and plead with you. In the second game everyone is named and their allies will shout out their name or some sort of sorrowful line about them when the ally finds out they died. Bryan reminds me of all this.

Brian in the one scene who almost got the upper hand on Joel (spoiler alert) was made to be an offset nod to the first human kill Ellie in the game made in the building Tess died in as it was hunters and not infected that got to them in the game. It's not exactly the same but it conveys a similar message per situation. I really hope my spacing from my mobile text device doesn't spoil too soon altogether in the comments. It wasn't intentional.

To riff on what John is saying about Melanie Lynskie's character (Kathleen) -- this show EXCELS at showing, not telling. It trusts the audience to be able to interpret what they're being shown without having to dump in a bunch of exposition. PS - In case anyone hasn't mentioned it (this is related to the game, but not a spoiler) -- Kathleen's 'right-hand man' (the dude with the long grey hair and badass beard) is the guy who voiced Tommy in the game.

Joel knew there was an ambush coming because the tunnel was cleared of any cars, somebody cleared it and all the cars in front of the tunnel were all turned across it not facing in or out of it so he knew something was coming.
