My first guitar was a classical with nylon strings. I paid $35 for it at Sears when I was 16. I gave it to a friend maybe 30 years ago and I'm still sorry I didn't keep it. ARGH! I'm consoled by the beautiful Taylor that I have now, but of course I wish I had my first guitar too. Don't let go of your instruments, folks! You'll never completely get over it.

You can say that about a lot of things in life. The advice should be don't let regrets rule or bother you, as you don't know what you might have happened if you change these things in your past the outcome could be worse just as much as better.

Would also love to see a Yo Yo Ma, Branford and/or Wynton Marsalis and Herbie Hancock or Chick Corea interviews

Hi Rick. Great to see a couple of your basses. I was wondering if you’d consider doing a few videos on common things musicians on different instruments would do in the studio which would annoy you as a producer. Something like “what not to do when you’re tracking bass / drums / electric / acoustic / vocals” etc.

From my experience recording and getting to know engineers/producers: Good studio etiquette is not to be playing when the engineer is getting the amps mic’d. Be mindful of their ears, that’s their money maker. Hang your headsets up when not in use. Ask before you invite anyone in to watch. Be on time. Which means, don’t show up super early. Be practiced. Especially practiced to playing with a click.

Hey Rick....regarding the electrical tape on the "Keith Tele", years ago I replaced the pick guard on an old strat I've had. Apparently the sandwiched construction of the new guard made for a rather efficient storage medium for static electric charge. Merely brushing your fingers across it's surface created all manners of clicks and pops. I remember placing a temporary layer of electrical tape on it. It worked rather well. What you have on that guitar may be on account of something entirely different, however I thought I'd mention my experience none-the-less.

I just finished watching these 3 videos in succession. You have justified my guitar collection. I'm mildly surprised that you don't have a Gibson Firebird, or a Gretsch in your collection. I'm not typically a bass player, but I bought a cheap Gretsch Electromatic short scale bass, and I was blown away by the functionality and tone of this thing, I put flatwounds on it, and it's a beast.

My 98 Stingray is the exact same way Rick. Locks in and holds tune perfectly! I was touring in the VERY early 2000's and just as a joke, checked the tuning for an entire summer and never touched it! It held perfectly all summer! To this day, they neck is as I srt it up back then! Just LOVE that bass! It shares duty with my prototype Tim Landers (Peavey) TL-5!

I really dig that second guitar there - the semi-hollowbody one. I have a soft spot for guitars like that, really awesome. One other thing - in response to the tik tock video - if you want to hear something new that actually sounds *really* good and contains lots of guitar, check out the Flaming Lips brand new album "American Head." I just heard it for the first time yesterday and its already up there in my list of favorite albums of theirs - as good as their last album "Oczy Mlody" (that's another really good one you should check out if you haven't heard it - came out in 2017.

I was 10 or 12 years old when my brother got those first two Led Zep albums (I later got III with my own money when it came out), and hearing the acoustic part to Ramble On brings back such memories ... The Abasi reminds me, a friend recently posted a Rickenbacker slanted-fret (NOT fanned, they were all at the same non-90-degree angle) Rickenbacker guitar, and I remember as a teen being in a music store in Rome, Ga. (there were two big ones, I forget which one this might have been) about 1974-1975, I played one (the salesman practically shoved it into my hands, apparently they weren't selling well). It did feel a bit weird but he of course said "you get used to it." Those Basses ... WHY DIDN'T YOU PLUG THEN UP AND PLAY THEM? You could have played the bass part to Ramble On, dubbed in the guitar part, oh it would have been so great ...

The tele is from the Blacktop series. I have the HH Strat version and I love it. The switching on the strat lets you get split coils on the 2 and 4 positions which gives the guitar a huuge range. I wanted a guitar I could learn on which wouldn't break the bank that could be any guitar I wanted atm. Need a tele sound? got it, how about a hot pup gibson? no prob, strat? gotcha covered. The store I ordered it from didn't even know about the range of this and a couple of the guys that work there immediately bought the ones they had in stock for their gig rigs. I don't know why fender only did this with the HH strat, but the others only had a 3 position switch. My little secret, "one guitar to rule them all"

Rick, I was especially digging the Fender 12 - I think the original was called a “Villager”. Why does it have the “split” pickups? Looks sort of like the arrangement on a P-Bass. Didn’t realize Jimmy Page used the Fender 12 on “Stairway” - thought it was just a Rickenbacker 12 with everything set as bright as possible.

I have a strange story to tell: Firstly I need to say that I am a drummer and I don't know much about guitars. Last night I dreamt of the Abasi guitar. prior to the dream I didn't knew there is a guitar company called Abasi and I didn't knew much about Tosin Abasi. In fact the only time I saw him was in the discussion with Rick, Tim Henson and Misha Mansoor and I also heard a song from Animals as Leaders one time. So this is how the dream went: I see the Abasi guitar and I stare at the logo (which I haven't ever previously seen) then I suddenly make the connection with Tosin Abasi and it makes a lot of sense. That's as far as I can remember. When I woke up I remember the dream and the unique guitar shape seemed like it could've come out of a dream and also the connection with Tosin seems unlikely. Then I watch this video and I realise that I dreamt real things. I don't how my subconscious mind made all those connections and how Rick made this video right after I dreamt about it. I probably saw the guitar somewhere and I subconsciously memorized the logo.

That is called multi scale. Every string has a different scale length. It's kinda a string tension thing. Just look up multi scale guitars. I can't explain it well enough! Kinda a shredder thing.

I have fifty or so musical instruments, but I am not a collector. I'm a player, albeit a bad one. But I have fun. And any guest in my house can play any instrument I own, even if they want to hurt their back wearing an EDS-1275.

Any update on the release of the Gibson Rick Beato signature Les Paul Special Jr.?

I always wondered why Fender hasn't released a Keith Richards signature telecaster. There is no doubt they would sell a lot! Does anyone know why? It must be because Keith is not interested but has he ever discussed it in an interview?

That Goya Hollowbody is insane. But now I'm confused. Which one of you is the real Rick Beato? ;-)

I was a little surprised to not see a Gretsch or a guitar with a bigsby.

Look up Scot B McDonald in Vermont. He is a master craftsman and can probably fix anything
