May 7, 2006 was a special day for Arsenal fans everywhere - especially the 38,000 packed into Highbury Stadium.
That afternoon's game was the Club's last at its spiritual home before the short move to Emirates Stadium, and it was a day of celebration.
Putting aside all the historical significance of the occasion, Arsenal needed to better Tottenham's result at West Ham to beat their rivals to a Champions League place.
The Hammers did Arsene Wenger's side a favour and the Gunners did the rest, beating Wigan Athletic 4-2 thanks largely to a hat-trick from Thierry Henry.
Arsenal team: Lehmann, Eboue, Toure, Campbell, Cole, Hleb, Fabregas, Gilberto Silva, Pires, Reyes, Henry.

We moved to the beautiful Emirates but left our soul at Highbury.. I was too young to watch Arsenal at Highbury but seeing the highlights and hearing from others, it was a fortress❤️🙏

@@nan2236 Yes. It was about suffering together, coach, players, fans. I think this success story began when Arteta and his players, during 2020/21, were loosing a lot of games, suffering, but refused to give up and kept playing their tactic again and again until it pays off. Our soul began there It began to pay off last season, it's fully paying off now. Really credit to the coach and the players. They were rewarded for their efforts, it's truly justice.

The good old days! I LOVED Highbury and that kit. Wore it for a whole school summer.
Glad to have witnessed it in person, leaving Highbury left a small hole in my heart when we moved.

I always see you around all the Arsenal channels and always remember how raw that album is man when I see your profile pic. Cam is too underrated.
The fans were so much more lively at Highbury, than they have ever been at the Emirates.

I am a Liverpool fan, who has massive respect for Arsenal. I agree, you should never have moved. The Emirates is awful, completely soulless.

To be fair it's not the fans' fault totally, yes all the big 6 clubs have lots of tourists but the fans were near the pitch at Highbury, however for the Emirates...

yeah thats the thing, these modern stadiums arent built for atmosphere they are built to be a theater that can make as much from the ticket receipts as possible

As an American who’s been a gooner for over 20 years, I always loved watching Arsenal play at Highbury. Watching this game live at such a young age, I always wished I had the money then to travel to London and watch an Arsenal game there. I’m still gonna go and take my boys to the Emirates, but not the same. COYG!!

Its not the stadium, its the players. Everyone changed. From Henry to Aubameyang, From Lehmann to Leno. Its all changed. We do have a big chance of going up with Arteta and with all the youngsters.

This is very sad to see. Always am sad to see great old stadiums get replaced. I hope Aston Villa does not leave Villa Park.
I genuinely get emotional thinking about Highbury. For anyone who never got to experience Highbury in its fully glory. It really was one of the most unique atmospheres in the entire premier league. I miss it!

This game meant so much to us. 1. Last match at Highbury. 2. UCL Qualification up for grabs. 3. Bergkamp's last match as a football God. 3. Reyes's last match for us. 4. Pires's last match at Highbury. 5. Cashley Cole's last match for us. 6. Sol Campbell's last match at Highbury. 7. Henry's hattrick earning him the Golden Boot. Like Wenger said, Arsenal lost it's soul when they left Highbury.
When all this happened I wasn't even born but because it is arsenal ..I love it😍

What a day, I won tickets to this via an online competition with O2. I took my brother with me and it was just magic. I've still got my packaged commemorative T-shirt somewhere at my parents.

Arsenal were an innovative club who had the finances and influence to engineer safe standing which could have increased the capacity and maybe saved the old stadium. Such a shame.
