    You are someone I regard as a bloke who knows his onions Gary and that Mk2 is the sweet spot. More civilised than a Mk1 and bags of character over the Mk3. My best friend sold his Mk3 last month. A lovely car but just didn’t do it for me whatsoever and that’s coming from an avid Ford fan. Those Mk1s do look bloody nice though on the odd occasion I see one!

    The Focus Mk2 RS was the Sierra 3dr and the Focus Mk3 RS was the Saph. Different vibes but as a daily the Mk3 is a good car. Any true Ford RS fan appreciates all variants.

    Was passenger in one a few weeks ago, full noise up a mountain road with a guy that possesses rare ability behind the wheel, I was honestly shook! Was the most unbelievable experience I've had, none of this "off the line" crap, absolutely on it around corners at speeds I'd not believed possible.

    Never ever had a ford before getting my mk2 focus rs lv in ultimate green (modified by the ford dealer here in Australia from almost new) fell in love, and can never sell it. It is a true drivers car, the connection between road and driver is unlike anything else. Never thought that I could fall in love with a ford, but it has happened. Those that know, know. Car focused is not wrong!

    I’ve got a mk2 rs in ultimate green and wow what a car,it’s the same as the one you are in as in totally standard and every time I drive it it gets a lot of attention,so sad that cars like this are never to be repeated,I’ll never sell it as I love it

    I had this in a Lux 2 version. Still regret swapping it for my MK3 in a way. That standard MK2 engine was a beast. It’s just the MK3 has obviously the better handling and spec.

    Always preferred, the mk2 RS to the mk3 RS, more aggressive styling, the Mk3 styling was too watered down for customers outside European market

    The Mk 3 for obvious emissions/ economy issues and EU regs lost the 5 cylinder and that was a huge back step for a lot of people. Yes the 2.3 was more powerful ( although I’ve seen many videos showing they never make the claimed factory power) but it’s a bland sounding engine and exhaust note that can’t really be improved on only in the loudness department which IMO makes it sound worse. The RS Mk 2 has bags of character. The Mk3 is void of character completely.

    All three Focus rs's were and still are fantastic cars. I've owned all three and they got better and better. I now own the mk 3 RS and have done for years now. It is imo by far the best Focus RS that Ford produced. It's a keeper for me, i would not dream of going back to a mk 2 RS because it would be exactly that going backwards

    100% bang on what you say👍 I had the mk2 in ST form and I’ve had the mk3 ST and currently own mk4 ST and it saddens me this is the end of all of these fantastic machines in my opinion the RS versions are the pinnacle of ford motor sport (just a bit to much out of my reach) we’ve got nothing to look forward to other than electric rubbish😢

    Yep, the mk2 focus RS was the last of proper RS’s to be produced and I doubt there will be anymore like this simply because the world has gone mad, manufacturers have gone mad and are no longer listening to what the customer wants with all this EV and SUV bollocks. The world is a mess with thinking too much into going green when there’s far more serious things to worry about and hot hatches are a thing of the past now in my opinion sadly with the all the crap basic models manufacturers seem to be producing and all looking the same and our roads looking so dull with them all, compared to the 80’s, 90’s and 00’s. So now would be a great time to get one and keep hold of it. I’ve had 2 mk2 RS’s and 1 Mk3, the mk3 was fast and very capable but I felt far too safe and bored with it after a while so I sold it. No doubt I’ll be getting my 3rd Mk2 RS soon. Great unreal cars that I never seem to get bored of.

    I think the only thing it lacks is four wheel drive to really hark back to its rally roots. I think the mk 3 is as close to an escort cossie as you can.

    My only gripe with the Mk2 and it’s not really so much about that car itself, is the ST was too similar. It ran a turbo 5 pot like the RS which diluted the uniqueness of the RS engines character. A few mods also bought it up to very near RS levels of performance too. The Mk 1 was a true stand alone car in that nothing in the lesser models was even close to the RS model. Maybe for me that’s the last proper RS in that respect but I do love the Mk2s looks and sound. It’s a tough call. The Mk3 was a dud and doesn’t get a look in. That 2.3 sounded vile and they never impressed me at all. It’s a perfectly good car but it’s also far too clinical and void of character.

    Have to agree with you. I own a mk2 Focus rs. I always said it would of been more special if the 5 pot was exclusive to it rather than shared with the focus ST. But that's from an enthusiast's point of view. From a marketing point of view ( from ford ) it was probably a great idea as they sold many of each and made lots of money from doing so. Love the drive of the mk1. Exclusive and with the raw torque steer it makes you feel like you're in a old escort rs turbo. So for that.... I feel the mk1 was the last " Propper " RS drivers car

    Tbf the the engine in the RS has quite a lot more stronger parts internally, pistons and rod etc are all uprated, but I know what you’re saying. It would’ve made it that but more special if the ST didn’t have the same block.

No I said they both used a 5 pot and THAT was a detraction from making the RS totally unique. Are you that moronic that you don’t think I know about engines and how they totally reworked the RS to get and sustain the extra power? Seriously?!! Did I also say they look exactly alike? I said they were SIMILAR. The ST was a lesser car obviously but it was also not THAT far apart from its flagship model, a point someone far more intelligent than you understood a couple of comments under mine but you come in shouting like a fool because you evidently can’t read.

    i was a Vauxhall man when 18 ( back in 1988 ) had cav sri , loved that car , always craved an old red top 16v ....when we had kids Mrs. wanted people carrier , got her zaf turbo (think that may of been z20 let), but once i didnt need the space , somehow ended up in a 5 pot focus ST..... the pull from any gear ,any revs and sound of this engine is something else. could only dream of a RS back then but the 225hp from ST was enough

    I need to be really honest when this first came out I really didn’t like green at all. I have had a complete 360 degree opinion change and believe this is the ultimate RS. You know as soon as you see this car in the flesh, what it is, what it represents and what it can do.

    Well the Mk3 was based off a Mazda 2.3. Ford had very long arms to reach through parts bins of company’s they owned .

    @@maciekthepole No wasn’t having a dig at all mate just with you saying about the Volvo poached engine that Ford have used and they did just the same with the Mazda 3/6 MPS L block based lump as their starter for the Ecoboost so the Mk1 is the only real RS with the engine that didn’t get plucked out of another brand. Oh and don’t get me started on Cossies I look at them on marketplace daily 🤣

    Totaly agree mk2 is the last true RS feeling and looking anyway, mk3 just wasn’t wide or wild enough looking plus in my experience the engines are chocolate with out forging, stage 2 is a ticking time bomb pistons will brake up like a digestive biscuit then rods through the block and fingers crossed they don’t smash through the transfer box 😖💷💷💷💷

    Really nice car ... The very last real RS Ford IMO. This car is a "Keeper" ..Nice colour also. Very respectful 163 MPH top speed. I Love this car. EDIT.... You will never see another Ford go on sale as good as this again. This was indeed the VERY last real Ford "Hot Hatch"

    The Mk3 RS is 100% the better car, the 4wd system and the overall handling with the performance leaves most cars for dust on b roads. Plus the RS badge was worn by the saph cossie, a beast of a 4 door car! The mk2 is a great car but last great rs is a strong statement. I’m a fan of all RS cars!

    The engine sound is epic, albeit underpowered by today's standards. No other RS handles or grips as well as a Mk3. I like both, but Mk3 is superior. People going to hate, but it's true.

    Its hard to see the future direction of ford. No RS, no fiesta, and lots of customers changing brand due to 1.0 ecoboosts failing, combined with powershift being made of chocolate.. Do always love these mk2s but with prices as they are i will stick to my mk7.5 ST

    On the roll and on the move 4 wheel drive just adds weight and most hatchback system are haldex derived stuff that runs FWD bias anyway. Add in costs of development of an new AWD system and weight they didn’t need it was one of the best handling FWD cars of its time with the revoknuckle set up helping to eliminate torque steer. AWD certainly didn’t make the Mk3 the best RS.

    Best car iv ever owned each to there own but they are absolutely shite standard looks and drive is atrocious 400+ is how they should have came with a proper suspension set up took 20k to get mine to feel like a proper car instant power it's like towing a bus standard. Fun fact your head can actually fit in the standard suspension arch gap

    You’re right. They need unlocking with a few mods. At the very least the need an exhaust, lowering and a mild tune.

    Compare the mk2 and mk3 flat out in the wet.....mk3 all day long! Mk2 is fantastic, but are now all 2nd car garage queens.

    Mk2 is quickest from 30 to 70 tho not much in it plus Mk2 is the last great rs and commands most money

    Sound doesn’t make a car better and that’s mostly all people brag on about with the Mk2. The Mk3 is an all round better car. And its shape more truer to what the upgrade from the mk1 should have been, imho. Also the Mk2 RS should have had 4wd.

    They sound shit I agree but a Mk3 would be down the road from a standing start while the Mk2 was sat spinning it’s power away in the first 2 gears. Plus side… the Mk2 would sound awesome doing it 😄

    That is opinion. I am a mk2 owner and could probably same the same. However I know they both excel in different areas. I think personally the Mk2 is the better car, yes I may be biased. However is it the better car for performance and practicality? No. The car sounds amazing, looks amazing; however is outperformed by the mk3 in pretty much every other way. But in terms of being a future classic and which is the best car from an investment point of view. Has to be the mk2 all day long..

    @@jimmyjt16 lol don't be silly, it's faster, handles much better, has much more direct steering, better and adaptable suspension, better gearbox, better interior, easily kicks the back end out under power like no RS has since the Sapphire Cosworth, literally better in every way bar the engine.

    It isn't. The mk3 has a shit engine that sounds absolutely terrible no matter what you do to the induction and exhaust side. Its too heavy. It looks boring. The AWD system overheats. Better gearbox? LOL, it does not even have an LSD as standard and there have been loads of boxes that have blown up. Meanwhile the mk2 box is well known to be completely bulletproof. Stock suspension is absolutely garbage - shakes the hair out of your head as its so stiff. Drinks fuel like a V8. Steering is quicker but lacks feel totally. But the worst thing has to be the shitty engine and that exhaust note - how they made a car sound that damn bad is beyond me. mk1 and mk2 RS Focuses are the only true RS Focuses.
