I bought a '23 Hyundai Elantra N (DCT) a few months ago - I love how nimble it is, how fun it is to drive on the road, the exhaust never gets old, definitely cool to have a "rare" car on the road - you don't see many of them, and the gas mileage is an added bonus (easily getting 30MPG+ in eco)!😎 The dual personality makes it a perfect daily and a fun "weekend" car! For anyone at all interested in one - test drive it, and you'll be SOLD! Also the warranties are great, and these have kept their value pretty well, but I didn't buy this car for resale, I bought it to drive it!!🤪

Kona N driver here. Huge fan of the DCT and the tech and UX in general. The displays hold 60 Hz and the software does not crash! People who believe they'd prefer a manual need to think again. You mostly have to jump to something European and spend double to get a DCT. The Japanese options (Civic Type R, WRX, GR Corolla) don't offer DCT. 4 software-definable buttons and TWO custom drive modes. You hold any N or star button and then you pick what it does in nav. Super-fast and every critical feature is a real button! As someone with a UX background, these systems are refreshingly well-designed and quick to use.

And yes I know this isn’t a high performance car, lol. My point though is that I didn’t have any bias against Hyundai like many others who post comments and that is why I bought one. I based my purchase decision on what owners, reviewers, and journalists had to say and they pretty much universally raved about the Elantra N. I couldn’t be happier. I’ve been using my 2022 Elantra N DCT as a family car for 2 years and it’s more than adequate for family duty. My teen and tween fit comfortably in the back and it has great trunk space for the size of the car. The suspension is completely fine in normal mode, and going down to 18’s helps with ride comfort. I run Continental DWS 06+ on mine and it’s the perfect mix of all season drivability and performance. Launch control can be tricky and I’ve experienced it not working when lining up at the tree at the drag strip, but I’ve found turning traction control off completely by holding down the traction control button for 5 seconds usually helps launch control work more consistently. As far as looks go, I still prefer the pre facelift but that’s just me.

Sounds absolutely incredible stock and surprisingly good on gas. Highest MPG figures I've managed to get so far is 34.4MPG. For a "Hot Hatch", those figures are crazy. It seriously is THE BEST car on the market for the VALUE. So fun and I've not stopped laughing at those pops. If you're looking at getting a Veloster or Elantra N.... please go test drive one now. I promise you it's so good. If you're undecided between the Manual and Dual Clutch transmission, the DCT is one of the best in its class, but the manual is the easiest I've ever driven. The engine in this isn't bespoke, it's a Theta ll which has been around since like 2010. It's tweaked for this application, but it's literally a motor that's gone into stuff like the Santa Fe and Sonata. The DCT is nearly identical to ones going into Santa Cruz and Sorentos. And that's not to say any of this is a bad thing, because sharing parts with common cars means repairs can be done much cheaper and easily. With how long this motor design has been around, it's probably pretty well refined in terms of reliability.

I order a Performance Blue 24 in December of 2023. Was told the manuals were on "indefinite" hiatus and I could only get a DCT. Fast forward to April when my car arrived and the dealer threw a $4,500 mark up on the car (tried an $8,000 mark up) and tried to blame Hyundai Canada for it by saying they "lie on their website" to get customers to come into the stores. Then manuals started showing up at the beginning of May. Have had the car for almost 3 months, have done 2 track days and love it. I recommend it to anyone looking for a fun practical sports car. Just stay away from greedy Edmonton dealers looking to charge Type R money.

I have a 2024 Elantra N and it’s amazing! Tip: don’t launch it at 3500rpm. Yes the tires may still spin at a lower rpm but in my experience, it’s not hard to get a flawless launch if the rpm’s are lower

Guess Hyundai really didn't change the lower engine bushings. It's really a QoL after you change it, completely removes the tire hop. There is a slight increase of NVH after but mostly on idling and when you have music off and listening carefully. I've got the purple (performance) from powerflexusa and its been fun launching it, of course a lot of burning rubber lol

Need to hold traction control button until it’s fully off, there you go. That’s literally the only thing you were missing. Keep wheel straight, ensure traction control Is fully off, activate launch control and your good. Also launch control can be re-engaged after a small period of time, just like ngs for the dct. The wheels are 8lbs lighter per corner, and forged so they are a significant upgrade performance wise. The wheel hop can be eliminated with a $40 bushing for the lower engine mount that takes 15 mins to install.

Launch control can only be engaged on flat ground so the car can’t roll AT ALL when off the brakes. I noticed in the video, the car was slightly rolling while trying to launch every time so it’s not going to engage. I have a manual Veloster N and it’s super finicky but on perfectly flat ground I can engage it every time. Great review 👍

I just got the DWS06+'s for my '18 Elantra GT Sport, here in the Lower Mainland, BC. They're quite a bit firmer/rougher riding at recommended pressure than the OG Hankooks, and on-center is a bit squirmier, but that is possibly improving as they wear in. Or I might just be getting used to it. Dry grip is astounding. Much more than you'd ever need on the street, unless you street drive like a fool. Wheel hop during launch is basically gone on a dry road. Wet grip is also amazing. I really have to try to spin, rather than the OG's which really made wet launches impossible. They're no more loud than the Hankooks, and actually quieter than worn ones. That's what finally made me switch, other than the hydroplaning starting to creep in more than I'd like. Got almost 80k out of em, and probably could have squeezed another few thousand summer KMs. Can't complain. They had good feel and manners at least. If these Conti's last as long as the Hankooks, I'll be pretty happy.

From my personal experience, these hyundai turbo petrols are fun to drive for the first few months and then the novelty wears off and it gets especially annoying once the GDIs start self destructing as they near 100k miles. I learnt my lesson the hard way, I went ahead and sold it and then bought a corolla, because the service center was sort of becoming my second home. My corolla feels dead in comparison, no doubt about it. But atleast it won't leave me stranded at 1 am waiting for a tow truck in the middle of nowhere.

If only you could get the Elantra/i30 N in hatchback in the US. Seems like it's offered pretty much everywhere else, and the hatch is more useful/practical and better looking than the sedan, facelift not withstanding. And don't get me started about the i20/Accent N, which should be a nice little hatch to fling about with abandon.
