    That's because they let him score because everybody knew it was his last game. 60 points on 50 shots it's no masterpiece. Plus, he was out of the playoffs, as usual. So it really didn't matter.

  • @johnwilliams3415

    @johnwilliams3415

    3 жыл бұрын

    @@mauriciotorresrivera2991 no one is arguing that there was significance of if the Lakers won they would be in the playoffs. The reason it was a masterpiece regardless of how many shots he took he still scored 60 and usually when someone scores 60 or more they take a bunch of shots and while 44 percent is amazing it isn't terrible either. You also have to take into account that he had losses a bunch of his physical tools do to injuries. And Utah didn't just let him score all 60 points he had to work hard for a lot. And the way he closed the game and got a win was amazing vintage Kobe. You can discredit it all you want t but it was still a masterpiece and anyone who says different is an idiot.

    If MJ never played after 1998 Finals, it would've been the greatest last game and last move of any sportsman ever, and it would've never been topped. The guy literally sinked the last shot of the Bulls' dynasty in the 1998 NBA finals with 5,2 seconds left on the clock, sealing the deal in 6 games with the most iconic and beautiful shot in NBA history in his final Bulls game, finishing with 45 points. If he missed that shot the series go to the 7th game in which the Jazz would have an enormous advantage in their own building for the deciding game. Scoring over 40 points in a finals game is a monumental task on its own. MJ probably never regretted his decision, but that game and that finishing shot was so iconic, people tend to forget about his Wizards journey like it never happened. Imagine if it really never happened.

    Bill Russell's stat is 6, 21, 6. WOW, I know as a laker/Kobe fan that his sixty points was marvelous, his record would be hard to break. But Russell's stat line is impressive against the three headed monster of the first 'player' initiated super team the 69 Lakers. People tell you that Russell is overrated, but look at the rebounding in this game. How could he not be so impressive?

    Kobe’s last game scoring 60 was a great accomplishment, But to frame it in the right context, those 60 points were scored with a NBA record (still standing) of 50 total shot attempts. Again, that’s a whopping “50” shot attempts in a single game. The NBA “league average” for shot attempts per TEAM from the year Kobe’s played his last game (2016 season) was 84.6 shots per game. And the league average score during that same period was 102.7 points per game. So for someone to take 50 shots ( close to 60% of a NBA team’s average total shot attempts per game) and score 60 points (about 58% of a NBA team’s average total score per game). To put that into perspective, one can argue that such a feat can be “expected” if someone like Kobe with expectation and permission were to go out guns blazing (Lakers having no playoff hope to fight for) by playing little to no defense and focus mainly on offense by taking that many shots...

    In fairness to Bill and his Celtics, that 1968-1969 season they had some injury issues during the season - though age and the retirement of so many Hall of Fame future members had also brought them down some. On the other hand, part of the reason they WERE hurt as much as they were that year was probably that their core was getting old (by the standards of the NBA at that time) and the minutes had definitely added up....
