THE LAST COAT vs SONAX CERAMIC SPRAY SEALANT TORTURE TEST

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

TORTURE TEST CERAMIC SPRAY SEALANT for auto detailing. Today its The Last Coat vs Sonax Ceramic Spray Coating. Both are very popular and easy to get. Are the spray sealants good paint protection or are they another auto detailing gimmick? We will find out. I will be testing these ceramic spray sealants or ceramic spray coatings with a chemical resistance test. I will start with a good car detailing soap and keep stepping up the torture until they fail. These are all products that are used in car detailing and could end up on the paint work. I hope you enjoy the video and hope you consider subscribing to my channel.

As someone that's been in the detail buisness over 13 years, doing on average 10 plus cars a week. That is definitely not how you apply a ceramic spray coating. Applying straight to the paint is why you're getting those results. Not just that , your wasting to much product that way. All it takes is two squirts directly to a microfiber towel and applying in a uniform cross hatch pattern. Immediatly apply/immediatly wipe off.

I'm surprised by how many KZreadrs are having issues or not good results with the Sonax. I use it a lot with my detailing business down here in Florida and on my own personal vehicle's and have had it last a solid 4 months with the brutal heat and rain and maybe 2 maintenance washes on my wife's SUV. Hit it with chemical's all the time on customer vehicle's and it stands up just fine. Maybe the product is just overloaded with chemical residue etc.

I feel like Sonax would make a great topper for a true ceramic coating. The hydrophobics are stupid and it would be great to apply as maintenance every 4 or so months if you're into that kind of thing. I have Sonax (only the spray coating, not as a topper) applied to my personal car and I'm 3 months in with no signs or wear outside of right behind the tires.

Can you do a test where you compare the same coating, but with different application methods? Eg. Use turtle wax graphene flex wax, split the hood in 3, then do a dry application, a drying aid application, and a rinse off application? And compare durability? For the products that advertise multiple application methods, like flex wax, bead maker...etc. it would be really interesting to see the difference.

Should you use a drying agent such as Bead Maker after washing before applying a sealant such as one of these? Common sense tells me it would interfere with proper adhesion but I don’t know if that’s outweighed by the danger of introducing love marks by drying without a drying agent. Thanks. I love your videos by the way, they’re fun to watch and teach me a ton.

I have been using the Sonax for my car in winter in Finland. It's hard to say what is good for your car, as the conditions in here are so extreme. I mean it's from +5c to -20c in one month. But maybe the Sonax is better than nothing.

  • @gabevillarreal96
    @gabevillarreal96 Жыл бұрын

Sonax is my favorite as far as hydrophobic properties. No question. But it only lasts me 3-4 months with weekly hand washes. But since it's so easy to re-apply, it's not a problem. It's not slick and not the easiest to get off after application but the hydrophobic are addictive. Nufinish Graphene has similar hydrophobic properties and lasts longer but it's horrific to apply and take off because it's the most grabby product I've ever used. If they could find a way to have the ease of application of seal n shine and ice spray wax with the hydrophobic properties of sonax ceramic spray coating and the longevity af around 5-6 months, they'd have a true winner!

I agree Jay. I prefer a traditional ceramic coating with a routine lighter durability product as a drying aid used after each wash. OG drying aid is my favorite and Beadmaker is my goto #2. I have been wanting to test all the popular longer durability sealants just to see how they are. Some of these may be good for a situation where you can’t wash the car for months and you want a sacrificial layer on top of you ceramic or you don’t have a ceramic coating at all. So far I am liking the KC SO02. I have a bunch more to test so we shall see. Hahaha

Nice, but you have to take in to account that the only important thing is durability to wash. All the other chemical you use, it's not something you want to put on any coated car. Each product reacts different to the exposure to some chemicals, so you might use other company bug remover and it will not hearth the coating at all.

My preference is a true ceramic coating with a very slick lower durability topper coating applied as a drying aid after each wash. This is hands down the best option. As far as BUG remover, I do NOT use one. Instead I use "ELBOW GREASE", because as you saw, it can remove protection. If I have any stubborn BUGS left, I'll take a little polish & ELBOW grease to remove. Thanks for your ENTERTAINMENT!

Not sure why The Last Coat performed as poor as it did in this test - however, don't write it off. I love TLC for its great beading, and super high gloss and slickness. I liken it to P&S Beadmaker on steroids. It's slightly better than Beadmaker in all departments, especially longevity. I'm in England, UK and get at least six weeks good protection and shine from it.

There's a reason Sonax is sold retail in gas stations all around Europe - their products are mediocre at best, so they push it to the non-carenthusiast customer with a fancy label as bait.

These are not meant to last very long in the first place, so all these torture test are probably equal to the 3 months or so they are expected to survive! I'm going to try the Sonax for the first time soon and the car I have stays in the garage, so I'm expecting it to last as advertised.

So far the big dog is Koche Chemie. I have a whole bunch of sealants that I will be testing so we shall see. Sonax was unbelievably hydrophobic but it had no chemical resistance at all. Bug remover killed it even diluted way down.

@@aarongonzalez2156 I agree. That’s what I do too. Ceramic coating with a weekly drying aid is my go do process. That’s all you need. This is more for people that don’t have a ceramic coating and want some durability and longer lasting protection. I am doing this testing just for fun too. I like testing stuff. Lol.

@@aarongonzalez2156 Same here, Aaron. I agree that The Last Coat might have lost this test, but if you want extreme gloss and slickness that's even better than P&S Beadmaker, but lasts four times longer, the The Last Coat is a great choice. I use it for special high-end valets.
