The adventure continues.
Safe sailing.
Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

The fella on the dugout canoe with his boy, dignity is the word Barry. And you’re a man of great emotional intelligence to notice and comment. Lovely update.

It’s Friday night in Georgia, USA and we get a visit from Seadog! Perfect! Thanks Barry! I don’t think I’ve ever seen a guy enjoy a beer more than you. Lol
It is honest. How can we live with, respect, this simplicity without compromising quality of life?
Hi good Ole distant friend Barry. No more fires now.😮 glad you didn't get tangled up in that storm. I have been watching you forever. You're my favorite and there's sure a lot of them. Cheers sea man😂❤
I just searched yesterday for a new Barry video, then, today, " there it is " 😊

thank you for living YOUR LIFE while we sit in our chair watching you wishing it was us doing what your doing .. its so good watching your adventures ..
Hi Barry. We caught up with you at Smokehouse Bay and shared a pizza. Jade River is our Hunter 33. Before we had an oven, I used to make bread in our pressure cooker. Put the dough in a tin on a trivet, added a little water and cooked. The bread didn't have a crust as such, but it firmed up when cold, and bread is bread when you don't have any! Cheers.

Stay safe...no more fires! Love the scuba footage!
Another gem Barry. Re-ran again and then again. Beautiful. Stay safe
Absolutely amazing Bazza …. Your seeing the whole world xx
First, and most importantly, sort out your smoke detectors!🚨
I can certainly understand how a novice captain could get into trouble. Understanding about the ledge and the winds is it definite advantage to stay safe. Thank you for the video.
Thanks Barry for another great video. May you have fair winds and happy travels .
As always Barry I'm so happy to know all's well and on with your adventures...God bless you❤
Thank you, I too enjoy cold beer from a glass.
mate l gotta hand it to you that is some really nice places you end up
IKEA mat sticking to pans happens to me all the time. A little excitement to liven up your day😂
Lucky all is ok, be careful man. Love your stories:)
Your adventures in places still isolated from modern pollution of all kinds and pure safety always amaze me! Thanks Barry! Land locked mid America.
Enua Manea that's your song Barry ❤
We've been enjoying your adventures for six years. I think you were the first sailing channel we followed. You're an inspiration.
Enjoying you’re adventures loved the shot of the fisherman and his boy on the dugout canoe . Safe travels watching from south Louisiana 👍✌️
Stay safe Barry, especially with the drinking and cooking,
It’s been a long time watching you Barry, and long may it continue ❤
Life is simple as long you remember Love.
Another great Old Seadog update. Thanks for sharing Barry. Cheers!
I hope you're still out there. It's very soon we're all gonna be poor and running for our lives. Thanks for the retreat, my friend.
Enjoying your content from here in Bangkok! A true adventurer you are and a talented film maker.

Hi Baz. I'm following you for the last 3 or 4 years and enjoying every bit of it. Luganville is very nice to see again. Was there with the missus on our first cruise ever. Cheers mate. (this must be going awhile back. I saw you already with Jess and Damian at their project Brupeg.)🍺
Well, I'm glad it was just a stinky scary fire and didn't do much damage. Holly came over there also, She hasn't done a video about her Vanuatu experiences. yet.
Hey Barry, it just occurred to me I have been watching your videos since you were sailing down the coast of Spain! Really enjoying the series since you left NZ. You’re a pro mate. !
Barry, you committed a beer conisours sin which sounded like a plastic beer glass. That is akin to drinking wine from a soup can. If I ever see you my friend, drinking Yorkshire bitters that way, I am coming for you. Lol
Loved this episode. Seems like you have really been in paradise this time. Living to survive sounds hard but it has you focused on the only really important thing on this planet. I wouldn’t consider these fishermen as poor, maybe according to our western society standards, but they don’t have all the man made challenges we produced ourselves. (new car, new phone, enough followers, etcetc. ) and most important, they do not destroy the planet in such an absurd way we are doing it.
As always top entertainment but you surpassed yourself with the beer moment. After this passage I also needed a beer! Looking for your next adventure. Thx Barry!
You just you just got a terrific show on Barry, after the it's always nice
Awesome, Barry …. 😊
Port Sandwich looks like a spot for the bucket list!
Thought my T-Shirts were bad but your T-Shirts (especially the Sarcasm one) are defo ready to be used as rags...lol😁
Accidental best beer commercial ever 🍻 gotta get one, cheers!
Two big threats on a boat tankers and fire!

Hi Barry, thank you for the comments on New-Zealand. I had always wondered how long your NZ stay was, now I know, 2 and a half years.
Very very beautiful view 🤩🤩😍😍 wonderful 👍👍👍👍 wonderful work 👏👏👏👏
It’s funny, I don’t know Barry but when his videos come up I get the feeling similar to receiving a letter from a close friend who is off on a grand adventure. Thank you Barry!
Very wise Barrie, I’d never have a swivel on an anchor for the very same reason. If it was new fair enough, but how long before you start to worry about wear and with tight tolerances surely the ingress of sand etc that gets trapped will act like grinding paste. How do you inspect it for wear, give it a wobble and see how much slack is there🤷♂️ Another lovely video from paradise and although I follow other sailing channels on here, yours has always been the one I most look forward to watching and I’ve watched every single episode. Thank you😊 Keep safe, fair winds and best wishes from Burry Port, Carmarthenshire.😁👍
Magic Barry !
Love you Barry :)

"But such is human life. Here today and gone tomorrow. A dream -- a shadow -- a ripple on the water -- a thing for invisible gods to sport with for a season and then toss idly by -- idly by. It is rough." - Mark Twain Well rough for some, Barry is living the life!
Fires are very scary at sea, really pleased yours wasn't too serious. I was sailing single handed 30 miles offshore when an engine room fire happened. Luckily I managed to put it out and only the engine room was destroyed. Getting ready to refit now and then off again :) Really love your content.
Congratulations on the pizza!
Respecting the local's environment. Kudos to your ethos. Liquid gold, ah how refreshing and energizing. A taste of paradise, pizza.
You need a bigger pot with some water in have that on simmer put a smaller one inside with your dough both lids on, dont let it boil dry 👌🏻
Exceptional. Your words on poverty are so perfectly placed. Richness in life can be found at all levels, sometimes you can have nothing to have everything.
Barry…you tha man
I agree with ditching the swivel. One or 2 shackles are the best. Easy to install and inspect
@12:25 heavenly bliss old sea dog 🍻
Always a good watch !
I'm really looking forward to the next video my father was on the president Coolidge the day it sank.
Thank you Barry...
😅 We all love you, dearest Barry !! 😮
Thanks for your consideration when making the videos; after showing the cutesy anchorages and duout canoes you also toss in the nights of being to 'anchor watch' and I can think, 'oh yea, there were those too' and feel much better about being aground. Tortillas are the answer to small boat bread, probably especially so if single handing; and you can make a batch from scratch quicker than dinghying ashore and back to buy a loaf; I'll send you our recipe/technique if you're interested. Stay safe Uncle.
Thanks Barry!
Glad you survived this adventure, fire on a boat is frightening. Guessing your alarms are rusty inside.
Living thru you... like being in a living novel.
Good to have you back Seadog Remember the answer to all the mysteries of life is 42 - skål M8
I’m a bit late here, but I learned to dive with the double hose, I believe was scuba pro like Jacques Cousteau. It was 1967. I was a youngin.
Thanks Barry for taking me to Vanuatu. Another good episode from the Old Sea Dog.
I agree mate no swivel on these there’s no reason. That anchor is such a good anchor does not improve it anyhow .Great work skipper
I hope you could re-stock up on beer while you were there. 🤝🤝👍👍👍
Love it!
You remind me of Jimmy Buffet who I listened to for the last 50 years, I have watched you enjoy a few Cheeseburgers in Paradise and wish you many more.

My friend is an actor and was in Mageretaville the play
You have made my day.
Please leave if it's time, if you miss the deadline just stay over an be the islander you want to be for awhile but pick a place that has beers lol ❤Stay safe.
I was anchored out in that bay in front of the Beachfront for about 3 years. There's a tap of drinkable water close to the beach. I was in a hurricane while anchored. Heard a loud crash and figured my anchor chain parted and I was a goner. Nah, my mizzen mast had fallen down. Couple of Nivans helped me get it back up and that was the start of great friendships. Thanks for the memories.
Oh mate !! Such a long trip together from Portugal to Vanuatu ...!!! Stay safe !!

"As a fellow old man", I thought you might appreciate this Mark Twain quote. "We steeped our thirsty souls in the reviving wine of the past, the pathetic past, the beautiful past, the dear and lamented past; we uttered the names that had been silent upon our lips for fifty years, and it was as if they were made of music; with reverent hands we unburied our dead, the mates of our youth, and caressed them with our speech; we searched the dusty chambers of our memories and dragged forth incident after incident, episode after episode, folly after folly, and laughed such good laughs over them, with the tears running down ..." - Mark Twain
Great job!
Barry the time is flying by, it's not even believable. That said, the pizza did look divine ha, ha, ha. Be well!
Fantastic video as always Cousin Barry! We both really enjoyed it, glad you got the fire sorted and know how it happened. V scary to say the least! Watching your progress all the time. Love Malcolm and Eileen XX
