Thanks so much for your support,
The adventure continues.
Safe sailing.
Boat:
White Shadow is a Van De Stadt ‘Seal’ 36 (11 metres). She is hand made in steel, 2004, with a round bilge (hull) and a modified coach roof. This makes her a ‘one off’ and in my opinion the most beautiful Van De Stadt 36 ever built.
The camera gear:
Main camera is a Panasonic Hc- V700 with a Rode External mic with a sponge and dead kitten attached.
Action, underwater scenes and small blogging is done with two Osmo action cams. Some boat shots are done with a Dji gimbal camera.
Editing:
Final cut pro on a Macbook. Most of the material for each video is filmed over a period of several weeks or so and the editing of each episode is normally done over a day. This process can take longer if original music is used or permissions are needed for copyrighted materials etc. Much time is spent sorting out technical problems. In this case I normally get the help of a younger person who understands computerie stuff!
There are also times when filming, editing and uploading is not possible due to being at sea or in locations with no internet access.
Content:
I have found that filming and releasing material over a period of time is better than doing ‘vlog’ style videos and trying to make episodes out of whats happened in a week, regardless if it’s good content or not. By filming over a period of time I can be more selective in what goes into each video. My aim is to avoid ‘bland and mundane’ and have at least one or two exciting and interesting events in every video. Every video has to be entertaining.
Comments and being at sea:
I love reading your comments. Most weeks Im able to read everyone. I cant reply to everybody but I do read and enjoy them. Keep them coming! There are times that It might seem I'm not on the internet for certain periods, this is normally when Im at sea on passage. While Im out on the Ocean I have completely no communications with the outside World.

I'm an old seadog, 91 years old. I used to do what Barry does but now I'm glad I can just sit back and enjoy life by watching what youngsters like him do. The truth is I really don't want to do it again. Once was enough. Thank you Barry and stay safe.

God bless you Robert ... I can actually feel what you mean when you say you don't want to do it again and that you're happy to relax at home and watch it . To me it feels that you truly earned your creature comforts and have the right to sit back and enjoy them . I can imagine the adventures you've had and if you want to share with us anything I'm sure a number of us would appreciate anything that you would tell . Enjoy your weekend , my dear .
So wait a minute, you say the fisherman should slow down a bit, but when it's cocktail hour you and your buddy go ripping along in a dinghy to get there. Barry, you have your priorities straight 😎🍻 cheers
Loved the vidio, but really loved the dog running through the daisies!

I'm learning that boat maintenance is an endless process...ahhh...the joys of sailing. But I only have to watch! I do love sailing, and, I've never had to deal with all the hassles. KUDOS Barry!
I'm sure you felt relieved after getting rid of all that dirty old diesel oil ... nice of you to get it to that friend . This video had everything , even the pain of nostalgia you had seeing the but just like the one you we're involved with in Portsmouth . You always pick excellent MUSIC and the song went perfectly with the dog running up the hill ... a cinematic moment . You look like you were having the time of your life on that vehicle going up the dirt road . Gorgeous rolling hills , lovely ... all that land looked wonderful . A number of people here wishing your videos were longer and I have to agree with them .
My man SeaDog… missed you.

As a retired Sailor, USN, I understand the feelings about your lifeboat. This ode says it all: "My Heart's at Sea Forever" Long ago I was a Sailor. I sailed the Ocean blue. I knew the bars in Singapore... The coastline of Peru. I knew well the sting of salt spray, The taste of Spanish wine, The beauty of the Orient... Yes, all these things were mine. But I wear a different hat now, A tie and jacket too. My sailing days were long ago... with that life I am through. But somewhere deep inside of me... The sailor lives there still. He longs to go to sea again, But knows he never will. My love, my life, is here at home, and I will leave here never. Though mind and body stay ashore... My heart's at sea forever

Great poam. I'm not a retired Sailor though I spent many years as a crew member on the cruise ships. Thinking of learning to sail to get back on the water. Is there a way you could forward on your skills?

Barry ,there is a 91-year-old gentleman named Robert Rathsmill here in the comments and he was saying he used to do the same thing as you here . At first I was thinking maybe he would love to hear that poem but maybe not because says he has no desire to ever go back to sea and is content to watch it all from where he is now . Lovely poem speaking of an era long gone , never to return . It would be nice if some of the people here scrolled up a little ways and said hello to Robert .
The trick to drilling stainless is slow drilling with a little lubricant your bits will stay sharp longer! I just stumbled on to your videos a week or so ago I’m hooked I really enjoy them good job. Good luck and safe sailing.
Barry how are you doing? Haven't heard from you lately hope all is good.
Thanks, Seadog.

Awe the sea life. Nothing more beautiful. But oh so much work. Old sailors never die they just get sea legs.
I love that moment every time I see you have a new video up. Live the life!
LOL it's as much about the ride out there as it is for the fishing for me.

Barry, can you cut the tops off the old fuel tanks and drop some bladders in there? Seems the easiest and cheapest way of getting your clean fuel capacity back... 🍺
Old Seadog where are you. It’s been so long I’m beginning to worry.

Are you sure he never catches fish ? Maybe it's possible he just doesn't want to record it ? I wonder if it's possible he doesn't like fishing because some people don't like to see critters dying ... that's why I no longer like fishing ... sounds crazy I know but it makes me sad when they're up there on the hook looking down at the water .

@@gardensofthegods me to.. I hate killing fish but it's the only decent food source we have now.... also I work hard for my fish...I row on the sea and I only take 2 or 3 but like you I look down in the water and see how perfectly formed they are and I don't like killing them but at the end of the day I need the sustenance I need the nutrients I need the oils and I need the fat our supermarkets are full of s***..... also I use a Japanese method to kill them I stab them in the brain sounds brutal but they're dead in a second I can tell

Top tip Barry ..whenever you drill through metal have the drill on slowest speed .. stop often and continually drop 3 in 1 oil into the hole .. will save you drill bits and a whole lot of time !!!
You have a lot of friends out there Barry!

I haven't tried kayaking yet ... looks to me like you can never really relax when you're kayaking and that you have to constantly be alert and extra careful . Detroit is one of the areas that I always get news reports on and look at videos about ... even though I don't live anywhere near there ... for some reason I have an interest in Detroit... I think it's because it is in such a beautiful area , lots of greenery and water .
