The Lanshan 1 Tent by 3FULGear - Does it live up to the my expectations?

Hi everyone. Today we are going to be looking at a new tent I purchased (158 US dollars). The Lanshan 1 by 3F UL GEAR. I bought this to replace my Naturehike Cloud up 1, as although its a very good tent, being a tall person, there isn't a lot of room. The Lanshan 1 promised to offer a little extra space and be lighter to carry. In this video I'll go through a few facts and figures, give my initial thoughts and then test the tent on a 0 degrees Centigrade night in the countryside.
I was really looking forward to receiving and testing the Lanshan 1. Will it live up to the hype and my expectations, or will it be a disappointment? Join me and find out.

Great review. Unfortunately you made a couple of mistakes whilst pitching up. Firstly you set up the main support guy line wrong (3:31 in the video) the rams horn buckle is used to connect the doors to, not to clip on to the guyline as you did. This allows a large air gap under the doors which helps alleviate the condensation issue. Also you need to extend your walking pole more. Try having it set to around 127cm or so. This again will lift the whole tent and keep it from touching the floor. If is bad snow or driving rain, you can drop it again to keep out the weather. Another tip is to pitch the tent and soak it with the hose and allow it to dry out before repeating this 2 or 3 times more. It helps the fabric to stretch and reduces the sagging you had. Hope this helps a little as the lanshan is an excellent tent and will serve you well once you've got passed the newness niggles. Keep safe, cheers.

Thanks very much. I’ll definitely try taking it out again. I think there may be an issue with my trekking pole. It was the first time I’d used this one and since then I’ve noticed that if you put a lot of pressure on it, it starts to collapse a little. This may have happened in the night when I tested it. I’ll try setting the guy line differently too. It was my first time setting it up and couldn’t find any setup instructions in the bag. Thanks for the advice. If it all works out the next time I test it, I’ll do an update video. I was really hoping this would be my go to trekking tent, so I hope it works out. Cheers 😊👍🏼✊🏼

I had not heard of pre-stretching sil-nylon before. Doesn't it just shrink back up when dry?

@Errant Ways no. It helps stop the fabric becoming floppy when wet again and reduces the sag you can get. I always do it to a new tent and it works well.

Also, you may want to pay attention to the direction of the guylines in the corners: matching the sawing line direction with the guyline direction gives the tent a better shape and, in conjunction with a proper trekking pole height, maximizes the livable space. I own that same tent and it has served me extremely well in cold, windy and dry conditions.

Great review highlighting the potential pitfalls of the Lanshan 1. A lot of practice, trial and error plus modifications make it a great tent. After mods you have probably spent £200 on my opinion still making it great value for money. I had a few terrible camps in it at the beginning, too and was close to chucking it out. After I found several of the good mods videos, applied them and headed pitching advice, I very much enjoy using it. It is definitely not an out-of-the box tent to first pitch in earnest and challenging to anybody who hasn’t used other trekking pole tents before.

Thanks very much. I’m sure it’s a good tent once you get used to it. In some ways I wish I’d bought the Lanshan 2, as even after a couple of adjustments, it still feels a bit small for me. I’m glad your modifications worked out ok and you are enjoying using it. Yes £200 is still great value for such a lightweight tent of this quality. In the end I bought the Shell2 by 3FUL Gear. Again not the most straightforward tent to put up on the first go, but much more comfortable for me and the quality is great. All the best and happy camping 🏕️😊👍🏼

Iam a user of lanshan pro 1, i am 5’7”. The pro version will be slightly more spacious without the inner, if the side of the tent touches the ground just extend the pole and pitch the stake further out for the door. I do find the space adequate for a one man tent.

Thanks for sharing your experience. For my original video my new trekking poles collapsed slightly over the night. I believe that led to a reduction in tent height/space. However, I’ve since taken it out and corrected this. Although I can say it’s a good quality tent, it’s just not spacious enough for me (I’m 6’2”). I think the Lanshan 2 would have been better, especially as I like to keep my gear in the tent with me (too many bugs, snakes and other animals here to leave it outside). Since this point I’ve bought the 3FUL Gear Shell2, which is a much better fit for me. Happy camping and all the best 😊👍🏼🏕️

@@GreeklishOutdoors as @McCaff62 says, the trekking pole need to be set longer. This will raise the height of the outer, giving 3" - 4" gap between flysheet and ground, as well as making the inner taught. Also, the guy line from the apex should have a fixed loop so you can adjust the tension on the pole and the doors independently. These changes will massively increase air flow and reduce the amount of condensation although, in cold weather, it's inevitable that condensation will form on the fly. Hope this helps you get the most out of your Lanshan...... Enjoy

Thanks very much. I will try another outing with the tent asap. I think I may have had an issue with my trekking pole. On a walk recently I realised that if you put a lot of pressure on it the locking mechanism fails. Due to this the pole may have shortened in the night. Cheers 😊👍🏼

Thanks very much. Yes I did try it out again, but I still found the material sagged/stretched after being up a few hours. Overall, I think I’m just too tall for this tent and therefore find it uncomfortable to camp in. I have since bought the 3FUL Gear Shell2 tent, which is much better for me.

I found it to be small. I can’t sit up properly unless I’m pressed up against the trekking pole. Some people have said I need to raise the pole, but I still don’t think that would have made that much difference to the length (when I’m laid down), but maybe slightly to the height. I am going to take it out again soon with a different trekking pole to see if I can get a tighter pitch. I will do an update video with my results. I hope that helps. 😊👍🏼

Nice review as always. I'm currently using the Catoma EBNS (that needs to retire at some point because the seam seal started to deteriorate) but I believe its a common thing to all these tents - those with a mesh interior - the lack of internal space. I've never heard about this company at all (3F UL), and was looking at the DD Tents Superlight Tarp Tent. Its lighter, on the same price range, has mesh only at the opening, but needs two walking poles and it has a lower waterproof rating - Its looks more spacious though.

Thanks very much my friend 😊🙏🏼 The EBNS seems great (but expensive). I’ve not seen the DD superlight tarp tent before. It looks really good (interesting design) and a low price too. The 3000 mm rating should be fine in Greece for most of the year. I think in the future I’ll buy another 2 man tent. A little bit of extra weight, but I like extra space 😊👍🏼
