Useful video. My new Lanshan tent arrived yesterday. Sealing the seams is not easy. I diluted the seam sealant with a cap full of white spirit. Several hours down the line I have got quite an even coverage of the two seams I have treated, with no unsightly marks on the fabric beyond the seams.

I added shock cord to the corners of mine replacing the yellow ropes on the five ground attachments. This helps me get a better pitch with the bathtub high enough to keep splash out.

@@hikefishmakemusic exactly. I could never get all three points to come together properly until I changed out the yellow ropes for shock cord. I use lightweight cord I think it’s only 2mm, but it’s enough to help me pitch consistently. I have the double wall version, so even a little bit of slack causes that inner mesh to fall in my face.

​@@williamcronkright5430may I ask what length you left the shock cord from the bath tub? I've been thinking to figure this out, I saw somewhere 15cm, but I'm not sure if they mean the diameter of the loop, or the circumference

@@stirfrywok2927 not really sure. I simply made it a little shorter than the other cords it was complimenting. The goal was to have some tension on it when pegged out.

How about spray rubber (Flex Seal & others) for important seams like the bathtub floor? I am a little worried that it may loosen with movement, but holding up well so far.

Interesting question. If you properly sealed your tent, the silicone should last the lifetime of the tent. But if you have subjected your tent to many years of harsh conditions camping, re-applying a seam sealant is probably a good idea. I have used FlexSeal on a lot of projects around the house, but I am unsure of its practical application as a seam sealant. I would imagine it would be very difficult to apply in a clean manner and if it gets on others sections of the tent, it would be a horrible mess to clean up. I also think it would add excessive weight to the tent - its not a "light" substance. Seam sealing a tent is essentially coating the seams and soaking the thread stitching with a diluted silicone sealant. It doesn't add measurable weight to the tent and it's super easy to apply. I don't see FlexSeal having the ability to soak into the thread stitching like diluted silicone would. According to my research, a silicone sealant can last anywhere from 10 to 20 years, depending on the quality chosen and the location of the caulking in relation to the elements, such as the sun and high winds. Silicone caulking offers the best resistance to UV rays as well. It's hard to beat silicone as a tent seam sealer, in my opinion.

This tent has been a nightmare for me. Can never get it pitched correctly. I'll give some of your tips a try before i trash it. It sure is nice when you have a tent that sets up easy and works the way it was designed without a bunch of mods needed to get it to work properly.

Sorry to hear of your struggles. I can say that it didn't set up perfectly for me the first few times, but with a little practice, I got it dialed in. Be sure to mark the hiking stick settings at the adjustment sliders on your stick once you have the desired pole height dialed in. Those markings make it a snap to get the height consistent every time, which is the fundamental key to setting up this tent, IMO.

I always put some anti slip (from a kitchen drawer) on the top of the poles. That makes life a lot easier!! goodluck.. i have both tents and i love them both!!

Does the pre-stretch really help? I would expect it to shrink back up once dry?

I think it helps. Plus, if you keep the tent taught as it dries, it doesn't shrink.

@@joshhill5223 * FYI in addition to his feedback, he has the Lanshan 1 Pro which doesn’t have a separate inner. The regular Lanshan 1 does come with a separate inner in either full mesh (3 season) or minimal mesh (winter). His Lanshan 2 shows what the full mesh inner looks like 👍

Me and my dog wanted this tent for it’s lightness so we’ll ignore your other mods …..and possibly suffer !! Then at least you can say “ hey I told you so 😂😂
