The Kuhrt calculator

Ғылым және технология

The Kuhrt calculator has a unique mechanism using pinwheels with sideways shifting pins. It was made in Leipzig, Germany between 1924 and 1927, and is very rare. Only about 2500 machines were made.

What a great machine. It’s been on my list for a while. I didn’t realize it had such a short run. That mechanism is so unique it seems a shame to be subcategorized under pinwheel. The carriage shift is unique.

Yes, I was unsure whether to classify it as pinwheel, but I had already put the Numeria in that category too. I still might put them both in the Other Wheel mechanism category like the Hamann Manus and the Marchant XL. It's tricky.

A very interesting and beautiful calculator. I like the machines with the bell on the outside. Did you buy this through eBay? There was an auction in December that I didn't win...

Yes, I got it recently on eBay for 239 Euro plus postage. I think that is a very reasonable price for such a rare machine. I also got a Barrett 6 that will be appearing here in a month or so.
