That and it doesn't go straight to your destination, it goes in at least some form of order. Taking Harry straight where he had to go was more likely a case of the bus being close initially, and harry living close enough to London.

I think the reason there is a Knight Bus is for what Stan says...."travel for the stranded witch or wizard. " Young wizards/witches cannot use magic outside of school so they need some sort of physical transportation like a bus. You will also notice there was a particularly old witch in the bus with Harry. Maybe really elderly witches and wizards' magic aren't that reliable (think Aunt Clara in the TV show Bewitched) who might need a bus to take then somewhere.

intriguing but i don’t know, Dumbledore has only figure out the Horcruxs a couple months prior at the end of Chamber when he was handed the Diary, and it wasn’t an immediate “omg this is a horcrux” admittedly. So i doubt he was planning his death, and Harry’s journey to find the Deathly Hallows that early on. Unless there is another reason he would want Hermione to know how to decipher the story of the brothers

@@andrewwolf4963 Dumbledore was well aware of the deathly hallows from the beginning. Seeing as he possessed the elder wand and it can be inferred that he gave Harry the cloak. Aswell as giving Harry the stone in his will.

Alternate theory: it never actually teleports, it just looks that way from the perspective of people calling it. Its real ability is being able to slow down time while in transit. So it still has to travel like a normal vehicle (albeit still at very high speeds) and just hones in on a raised wand like a crude GPS signal like you'd expect, but might as well have teleported from an outsider's point of view because of how it warps the flow of time. Think of it like the Wizarding World equivalent to entering Hyperspace

That could also explain the things like barns and lightposts 'leaping' out of the way; Those things aren't actually moving, but the Knight Bus is warping space around it to avoid them without having to change course.

The bubblehead charm. They were looking for something what can help Harry with breathing under water for TWO WEEKES in the library and they didn't find this? How it is possible if Fleur AND Cedric used it? Then it is pretty common spell. For my headcannon this is a reason why she isn't in Ravenclaw xD It looks like she can't using index in books. Or I belive that Ron found this spell, said something like "Oh! Bubblehead! Do you think it could be helpful?" and he was immediately shut down by Hermione, that not.

Well if it helps, they did get one thing wrong, which kinda makes the theory less plausible. In the movie Harry holds out his wand to summon the bus, but in the books it says to "hold out your wand hand". Pretty much, hold out your dominant hand to summon the bus, not your wand itself.

I doubt it honestly, to me I'd say the main reason there is only one knightbus is because wizards view technology the same way muggles view magic, as this dangerous, volatile unknown that's completely alien and terrifying to them. Very, very few wizards have the balls to actually take up mechanical engineering to make magical tech, Arthur Weasley probably being the only wizard in England who could actually design and build magical technology. So that's why there are not more knight buses, such things terrify most wizards and very few wizards would even know how to build something like it. Shame too cause it's made clear from every time a piece of magical technology appears its vastly superior to its non technological counterparts. Even Arthurs back garage project car could do things regular brooms just couldn't do. But I actually quite like that subtle bit of storytelling, it shows just how not different wizards and muggles really are. They both fear what they don't know and would rather destroy something they don't know then try to understand it.

@@AGayNamedRural Could be also we know that it is certainly possible for magic to alter the actual passage of time, presumably the lesser feat of modifying the perception of time is also possible. This could explain the discrepancy in perception for those on the bus perhaps the passage of time either is actually accelerated inside the bus or at least the perception of it. This would make the relative motion of everything outside the bus including the Earth itself appear far slower. It would make sense doing this too as the driver would need to be able to perceive the environment much faster as seeing a blur of the location the bus was in many miles ago would not help much if your goal is to park anywhere near the intended destination.

I always assumed it was just passed down from trouble maker to trouble maker. Like one of the maurader’s gave it to somebody and showed them how it worked, and every few years it got passed down again until somebody gave it to the twins who then gave it to Harry.

Another reason I always thought for the knight bus existing was that in order to apparate, you have to picture the place really clearly in your mind. If you haven’t been somewhere before, you might not be able to reliably picture it in your mind

Just watched and same. 😁 but something wierd. It said that the bus begin in 1865. The problem is that cars and bus were invented in the early 20h century and to have that look maybe even the 30s or 40s. So, did the bus had à different shape by then ? 🤔

In Deathly Hallows when Bellatrix Lestrange summons Voldemort, Harry thinks to himself that 'when Voldemort gets close enough he will teleport'. I think perhaps being in another country all together may mean you can't apparate that great a distance without a portkey. So Voldemort has to fly part way before doing so.

I feel like a lot of elderly witches/wizards that do not feel confident enough to use Apparition would use the Knight Bus. Kinda like how old muggles use public transport instead of driving (they used to know how to, they're just a little scared to use it now). Also, squibs, homeless wizards/witches using it as somewhere to sleep (hence, toothbrushes available) and underage witches / wizards that need to travel without parents or magic (ie, muggle-borns who can't apparate with parents, or those that have been locked out coming home too late into the night LOL) ALSO: "HUGE ISLAND" hahahahaha the UK is tiny!!

And that is 8 times the amount of money they weasley's have in the vault in the first book of a single galleon and some change.

The knight bus is a space-time magical item. Like a time turner. That's how it's able to service such a large area. There is only one because if there was a second they would crash into one another. The passengers experience things relative to non-passengers, hence the need for beds. Water may be linked to time, as in the flow of each are similar, all rivers flow to the ocean and merge, given enough time all things merge. Idk about that last part really. But the knight bus, I theorize, is a extra-dimensional object that full occupies that dimension, and leaves no room for another to exist along side it.

Thing is, the Knight Bus would have started off as being a animal drawn omnibus. Regular horses would not have worked too well for drawing it and offering quick transportation, and neither would most other magical creatures, even thestrals. So it makes sense that the animal originally harnessed to the bus would have been a zouwu, something that was large, strong, and incredibly fast. Maybe when engines started to become more common thirty years after the Knight Bus was begun, they just transfigured the zouwu into the engine of the vehicle, and it's been popping about ever since.

We understand that apparition is tricky, uncomfortable, and potentially disastrous magic, which must be regulated. Portkeys are also difficult magic (to create), so most witches and wizards rely on ones that are already in existence. Also, they must be registered. The floo network is also regulated and monitored. Brooms are expensive and uncomfortable for long journeys. I think we underestimate the number of witches and wizards who are kind of mediocre at magic. We just get so used to seeing amazing witches and wizards that we assume that everyone has the same skill level as Harry, Hermione, Voldemort, Dumbledore, or Newt. Why do they need a Knight Bus? Because there's lots of places you could go that aren't part of the Floo Network, because not everyone has the skill to apparate (especially long distances), because some people can't afford a broomstick or are going too far to be feasible, because underage witches and wizards can't apparate period, etc. And why only one for all of Great Britain? Because the wizarding world isn't as populous as the Muggle world. One is probably sufficient to service the number of people in the area. Think of how many buses are needed per capita for your local school district... When most people use other forms of transportation and this is serving a niche group, it would make sense that they *do* need one, but one is enough. But yes, the toothbrushes and hot water bottles are weird. ;)

It only needs 18 beds, because almost all wizards apparate. The bus is just for the couple who hate apparition so much they're willing to settle for whatever chaos ensues.

I always thought it was to transport homeless witches and wizards and if they can't find their place they can stay (as cane bane would say) for the right price

I had a though ages ago that "jump out the way" sound more like the bus isnt phyysically travelling the streets. Just that looking out the window you can See where you would be on the real world. I always imagined that the bus travels the same way as Flu travel but was intended for wizards who could not access the flu network for some reason. Hence when travelling the bus dissapears into the network then re-appears when it stops. @SuperCarlinBros

While the knight bus being a transfigured magical creature is interesting. I don't know that the Zouwu is a good starting point because as you stated, the Zouwu teleports. The knight bus does not, it is just obscenely fast. if it did teleport then it would not need barns and lampposts to jump out of it's way. Continuing with the transfiguration line of thinking, and to why it has not been recreated, we would take a deeper look into your example of professor McGonagall and Animagi. While a sucessful animagus transformation could lead others to seeing it as a cool thing to easily duplicate... the process would dissuade most everyone else. hence why we see so few animagi in the series. The process takes a minimum of roughly 6 weeks (for one month carry a Mandrake leaf in your mouth (and if you swallow or spit it out then you have to start over), Then place said saliva soaked leaf in a crystal Vial and add a teaspoon of dew from a place where neither Human feet nor sunlight have touched for another 7 days, and then hide it away in someplace quiet and dark while waiting for a storm. (being generous we'll say that takes at least a week and for that week) you have to do the tongue twister incantation every sunrise and sunset every day until your storm. then you still have to face your internal beast when your storm arrrives, assuming everything as gone well so far (which you don't get to choose but is theorized to be the same animal as your patronus). failed animagus transformations are also a things, with humans stuck in half animal transformations which can't be undone by magical means. It's just a permanent disfigurement if you fail. So all in all, it's a bad comparison because it's a living being transforming into another living being. straight transformation of a human into an animal actually causes that witch or wizard to be stuck in that form until another witch or wizard transfigures them back. Another Benefit of the Animagus transformation is that with practice you don't even need magic to activate it. hence why Sirius could transform without his wand. But the knight bus can't transform back and forth, plus (at least in the movies) it is very mechanically heavy and I think it is comparable to the Weasley's car from Chamber of Secrets. Arthur is a pureblood wizard and thus he doesn't have much muggle knowledge, but if a muggle born Wizard made an attempt to enchant the Knight bus with muggle based understanding of vehicles then such enchantments to protect normalcy would be much more understandable. All the same, let's look at other magical creatures in the harry potter Universe. I would submit the simple moke. A lizard with the ability to shrink at will. While it may not seem all that great in terms of speed or physical ability, but it's magical property of shrinking without compromising it's internal contents. Which we see the Knight bus shrink, curve, and bend while only moving the items inside through momentum, but not changing their location inside. Just as a moke skin purse would be able to shrink without pushing out it's contents.

Oh, come on! Harry Poter is set in the UK and you're asking why wizards there have a magical bus that has no business being there or working apart from "just because we can"? The Brits get like this on regular basis.

I've always assumed that the Knight Bus sorts of Teleports as it drives, kinda like its bending the space around it and jumping around everywhere, which makes sense because they have to pick people up from everywhere. So they just teleport to pick the people up, then start teleport jumping across the country to get them to the place all the while just zooming around. That would explain why they run into so many stuff because they are teleporting to random places. Maybe it saves gas/magic power if they don't teleport all at once and just take short trips instead? Still super excited for this video though, I would like to see what you guys think it is

On the Voldemort flight issue. I was a rereading Deathly Hallows recently and I think the reason why he has to fly is because you can’t apparate inside of Numengard (which kinda makes sense, right?) so while he flies I think he says something like he’s close to where he can disapparate. It’s definitely not made clear in the text, but I think of the plot holes in HP, this is not one of them. Now, one thing that’s bothered me for a long time. Blast-ended screwt scales reflect magic right? Sure would be a shame if someone thought to make armor out of them...

LOVE this, buuuuuut: Who’s gonna take on the challenge of actually harvesting the scales??? Would YOU volunteer for that?! I mean I guess you could wait until one died, but who knows how long their lifespan could be? And what if their scales are SO tough that they can’t be magically or physically manipulated into armor? *Dragon’s hide* has been used in clothing, but skin and scales are hardly the same.

Very interesting theory. Makes sense. Surprised you didn't talk about squibbs. If they can't use magic it'd be a way for them to travel. Could they summon the bus without a wand though.

It's enchanting isn't it? With a dissilusionment charm and more fancy charms. Like Sirius Black's bike and Arthur's car. In the book it says it's enchanted. Enchanting is experimenting with or putting charms in an object or in this case a bus.

I like to think that the desk was originally a pig, and she just restores it to a pig once a year just to look cool to her students

Couldn’t the bus just be somehow similar in magical construction as the enchanted car that Ron and Harry steal? Was waiting for that part of your theory to come in and was disappointed when it didn’t. That car was somehow sentient, so maybe the bus is similar but just slightly different.

I think that there are limits to how far you can apparate and that Voldemort was too far away when Harry was at Malfoy Manor which is why he flew. Maybe you could do a video on the limits of the different types of wizarding travel and why some options would be chosen over others in certain situations. Like why did Newt chose to use a Portkey to get to Paris? Or why didn't the MACUSA use a portkey to transport (not) Grindelwald?

This is like the Bob Ross of writing. We don't have plot holes here, only happy accidents.

I jusg had a realization- we never see voldemort aparate, is it maybe because in order to aparate you need to move your entire body and sould to the new location, which he cant do since he has horcruxes which are stationary objects that cant be aparated with, i feel like that would explain a lot

Another point i missed- although harry says that he will soon be close enough to aparate, we never see him do it, in the min8stry he is just disolving from smoke into human, wh8ch is how his flying is depicted and described in the books and movies, yes i know the movies arent entirely accurate, also he may be able tp apparate but it could be very hard or painful for him do to his mind/soul being so broken and scattered, remember the aparation teacher says that you must have full mental focus, hard to focus when your soul is in 8 different peices and part is in 2 living things and your mind is always elsewhere dont you think

Dalto Smithman I don’t think you understand how souls work in Harry Potter. The soul is more of a representation of how “human” someone is. In other words, how caring/compassionate someone is. It’s not something that affects magic (other than Horcruxes).

They can't sell the toothbrushes because they need them to wipe the snow off the tracks. That's why it always takes so long

Not only in Dutch, but I think it is common in various forms in the larger central europe (not geographic, that has a center in Estonia) but in Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Germany, Austria, Galicia had it, Benelux, some areas in the East and South:Italy, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Spain and Turkey or North:Scandinavia. Thought probably not now, and maybe just on longer traces and not everywhere. In tha Prague public transport is hard to buy even a ticket. Last times I got nothing ever across some countries, it was more common in the past. Trajects do it usually even for short way, but busses when travelling hours, no. Some countries offer in situ on each stop foods, drinks and it was sold commonly also straight to train. I can talk more about times 20-30 years+ ago.

On the cats hate water note, I'd like to bring up video recorded instances of multiple large cat species not just hunting in water, but playing in it. Tbf, it's really the only hole I can think of, all else makes sense.

They surely didn't have quite the powers that the Knight Bus had. It just appeared to Harry that they quickly moved to the head of a queue of traffic. The Knight Bus on the other hand was capable of jumping hundreds of miles. Also in the books the Knight Bus was never squeezing between traffic, objects would just move out of its way.

As soon as he mentioned that the Knight Bus might be a transfigured fantastic beast, I *immediately* thought of the Zowu, and was then promptly REALLY excited when he proceeded to say that same thing!

My thought was always that objects "jumping" out of the way was metaphoric of them flying by very quickly, or maybe that they appear to be jumping out of the way while the bus flies past as spacetime warped around the bus.

Fun fact: My patronus is a Salmon, watch out dementors

I had wondered the same things about the knight bus for a long time. Awesome theory!

At some point when Voldemort was flying over the ocean, Harry “knew that soon, he would be close enough to apparate”. I think it was when Nagini called him to Godrics hollow. I assumed there were limitations on the distance you could apparate, which is why flying came in handy?

The ministry cars that bring Harry and the Weasley's from the Leaky Cauldron to King's Cross also had a way of squeezing through traffic. There's a passage that says something about how they "somehow made their way to the front of a line of stopped traffic" or something to that effect.

Don't they mention at some point that there is a kind of distance for apparition? IF I'm thinking correctly (which I admit I truly could be wrong lol) doesn't Voldemort have to fly away from Grindelwalds cell when he gets summoned and thinks about how he has to fly before he can apparate?

I'm reading tpoa right now and harry describes the knightbus as "jumping a hundred miles at a time" which reminded me of the zouwu. Also the zouwu can apparently manipulate the space around it and so can the knight bus though they do it differently.

Yeah, it's really ravenclawmplex. Anyways, I always wondered, how did Fenrir Greyback get past the magical wall in Half Blood Prince if he didn't have the dark mark? You probably won't notice this, but oh well...
