Pete's right! Check out "Living On A Thin Line" from 30 years ago - written by Dave. In contrast to all Ray's British Empire nostalgia, Dave sings, "There is no England now." And Ray, who has partly produced most Kinks stuff since forever, backed him up handily. So they're both right, the sibling rivalry helps the music. I bet it can be hazardous to be in the vicinity, though!

When I was teenager, I loved the Kinks, I didn't know which one I liked most Ray or Dave.. Sometimes a bit confused, I thought oh my God , they are brothers! There is love there. Their songs like 'Days' and 'Lola' came at important times in my life. In Dublin everyone was singing 'Days' such a beautiful song and in a pub in London the whole pub was singing Lola. It was wonderful. I think The Kinks went above the Pop level in music, because I believe, it's innocence , it's poetry held onto the heart and spirit of young adults. Waterloo Sunset was the cream for me. I think the problem with Ray and Dave is they are both artists and poets who have given me and many others much joy and fun. The UK can be proud of them inspite of the nagging and the gnawing, there is something really peaceful about them.

Waterloo a song from the 80's ..... this guy is 20 years out of date .... Waterloo is a 60's song !!!
Looked a little uncomfortable to me.

Because it's a tastelessninterview lol
It's just pronounced 'Davis' ... not 'Day-veez' lol
The Kinks was Ray Davies, then his brother, with backing band of various persons who came & went. If it hadn't been for the US in the 70s & 80s, this group would have fizzled out in the early 70s. Read Ray Davies by Johnny Rogan, a real eye opener

I once basically said that to a motor mouth girl I started dating. She reacted similarly to Ray... pretty much offended (it's true, but I guess it cuts deep). But people tend to play their roles.
Kip moo
Dave was silly to not recognise that his brother Ray was paving the way for their band to greatness. He didn't see his own place.

@Wilbur Wafer Fascinating, never knew that!
The name isn't Dayveez, it's Davis.
My Brother is a Wanker too.
When you write the songs you get the lions share of the soundbites, Dave.
Bands made up of siblings, especially if they are white and British, tend to have a lot of violence in them.
The hate each other!
Pronounced “Davis”.
ray speaks like morrissey but only slightly less pretentious
Its just that Rays writing was heaps better
Ray Davies seems like a bit of an ego-maniac. He'll always remind us that they're 'his' songs and will often talk in the singular about himself when talking about The Kinks. Not great for morale.
From The Proper English language. My Autistic Daughter understands the Davies..better than U do.

@@bugaloo2836 Me too. If I had Ray's writing and singing talent, I would be able to afford to buy a house in Highgate Village like him instead of a two bedroomed semi in Kent next to railway line which shakes like a jelly every time a freight train goes past.
