@@timothy1949 Not really, it wasn't all that often. That would have been a botched execution, which had repercussions ... plus, the executioner made good money by making sure that the execution goes smooth, by being paid by the soon-to-be beheaded or his family to make the axe extra sharp and shit. Is not all that complicated to chop a head, the Saudi still use it as a method of execution, using a sword instead of a big ass axe, and I never heard of botched executions there personally.

@@nessa5095 No, and this is a common misconception about axes. Most people tend to think that axes act as razors and you hafta go at this extreme angles with them in the swing, or that you need to swing as hard as you can for a variety of jobs. The truth being that axes are designed to cleave, IE be swung pretty much straight at the target, and are designed to cleave with minimum effort by the user. An axeman who knows what they're doing and uses these principles can get a fully grown pine tree down in under 2 minutes with barely any energy spent on their part with just a normal wood axe. An executioners axe is heavy enough and has enough blade length to easily get the job done in one shot as long as the executioner doesn't completely shit the bed and miss. Most botched executions were due to the executioner missing only striking with part of the blade and only causing a partial separation.

Got to love how different the Netflix era is from the old historical movies about the Tudors or whatnot that came out in the 60s 70s or 80s. In those there would always be what tvtropes calls a "Gory discretion shot" when someone gets their head chopped off. The axe raised high, then falls out of frame, there is a squelching sound and the camera cuts to the gasping onlookers. But in the post Game of Thrones era that's old hat, now if there's a beheading, they show a damn beheading!

Well I dunno about that, there were some excellent actors in the cast that also helped carry the film. Let's not just shove them aside because you got a crush on Chalamet. Yes, he was very good but so were many of the others. In particular, Joel Edgerton (Falstaff) and Tom Glynn-Carney (Hotspur), and others. The ensemble was very good. No need to blow them off just so you can fangirl over Chalamet.

Shakespeare is well known to have rewritten history for the Tudors. He did a real hatchet job on Richard III, changing his age, to implicate him in events that had nothing to do with him, making him a Scorpio rather than Libran, putting him in places at times when he wasn't there and having him persuade his father to betray the King when he was less than 5 years old. The first Duke of Marlborough said that the only history that he read was Shakespeare.
