Every time I hear this song I think of the Christmas truce in 1914 and I almost tear up thinking of what it sounded like in as many as three different languages

A week before Christmas 2020 I am here, visiting this site... and I am deeply moved. Peace on Earth, good Will to all men.

I remember Brother John Svrcek (FSC) teaching me and my fellow Junior Legionaries (Cause of Our Joy Junior Presidium) at St. John's Institution, Kuala Lumpur this song in German in 1981 or 1982 as we were preparing to perform in at a Curia gathering that year. God Bless you Brother John and may you rest in eternal peace and joy in the bosom of our Lord.

This song brings me comfort and happiness. Helps take my mind off of losing my momma last year

And also if you have a lot of problems, in this periods of the year, in this specific day, you can be just grateful for all the things that are happened to you in your life. This song make me chill, and prepare me for the next year to improve myself. Hope same feeling for you.

I played trombone in a small ensemble that played this every Christmas. I had the best harmonic accompaniment to the melody. This is my favorite Christmas tune with the most innocent and angelic melody.

@@machinespirit4202 the German lyrics are the original ones. In German it's "einsam wacht nur das traute hochheilige Paar, holder Knabe im lockigen Haar". If you translate it word for word it's "only the married holy couple lonely watches the fair boy with curly hair " (the German lyric uses old words and old grammar, so it sounds pretty good in German). As you can see, it sounds pretty shitty, if you translate it word for word, so the dude who had to translate it ignored Joseph and only wrote "mother and child" instead of "the married holy couple "

This song brings me back my life in Hamburg all those years ago.

The most beautiful arrangement I've ever heard. Please don't change it. I just keep playing it over and over. And I love the close ups of the guys.

Yes -- I think their dark suits with the gold ties are perfect, especially in that fairly plain setting that somehow conveys peace and simplicity with the blue and red light and the Christmas tree. (The blue and red lighting reminds me of stained glass windows at Chartres cathedral.) The suits with the gold tie draws my eyes to the faces of the singers and somehow makes the singing all the focus. It is, for me, as though the six singers are finding a divine source of music at their centers and pulling it out of that hidden world into our world so that we can have an experience of the divine.

The first quality of voices, musicality, ensemble. I received message of peace as if I' had heard soldiers singing " Silent Night" at the battle field at the World War I, 100years ago. Of course it was sang by German by German soldiers to French soldiers. MUSIC IS AMAZING ! Keiko Shibata

Derptarded in German it was called Froweihnachten Waffen still stand. When the Germans was singing Stille Nacht or silent night in December 24,1914. The British troops heard the Germans was singing Stille Nacht. The next day a great celebration between the two enemies acting like children.
