    Great game as always ladies! However the decks didn't seem to be to even when it came to power level. I know price doesn't dictate power, however a $4800 deck against two precon-ish ($80-$120) decks doesn't seem quite fair haha. But it looked like everyone had fun regardless! Also more Chase! She is a joy to watch. Maybe an all ladies match with Chase and Rachel Weeks sometime??

    In my general experience games tend to be more enjoyable, when the power lvl of the decks are matching, too. But: In a multiplayer format you can gang up on the strongest deck quite effective. After some turns it appeared to me, that Joe's deck had stronger cards and if everyone else would have adjusted their threat assessment a little more to this, there would have been good chances to beat it. So in my opinion it was a really nice game to watch after all. Also when Joe visits next time, the table will remember and be prepared, I guess. ;) Thanks for the good show!

    to be fair, most of the money in Joe's deck is the lands. Olivia's deck was almost $1000 as well. I think the entire point was to pit the precons against fairly powerful decks, to see how they stack up.

    AFAIK, the bottom end of cEDH budgets is ~$100 for decks that can expect to win games if you pilot them well, even vs strong pods. Budget isn't a great way to evaluate the power level of a deck, even if it's a metric we all try to use reflexively. The big problem with seriously low budget decks in competitive pods is that you have very little choice in what you run, there aren't as many viable Commanders that can compete vs a $5k deck on a $100 budget.

    We had a pre game conversation or rule 0 that when we each described the nature and win con of our decks I was encouraged to play this deck even though I realized it was stronger. We all agreed in a rule 0 conversation that we wanted to play this way. I wish we had filmed it so people could see that it was something we had all agreed upon and I apologize if you think I was here to manipulate the situation in my favor because you think I was here to just "win". These are friends of mine and we were having fun while cameras were turned on. I'd invite you in the future to see things on a more broad perspective and take the time to see things more than just at face value. If you ask the questions they can be answered and you will see the truth. Thank you for leaving your feedback as I feel as rule 0 is a proper tool to engage others with especially strangers when in the wild. We unfortunately did not show that and therefore this game might seem unbalanced with the deck lists show but I assure you we had the pre game discussion and we all were having a good time with one another because that's what it's all about.

Episode was a little bit disappointing after I realized that Joe's deck is a way to pumped up.. But that's exactly that playstile that i expected from him. Hope the girls have a good time but its a worthless and boring win when you stomp the precons with a 4000$ deck. It is a way more worth to watch if the decks have a similar powerlevel.

    Joe should have only made 4 cats instead of 8. Two replacement effects are applied to make 2 treasures. One makes them into cats, and the other doubles them. I think it may have been a misunderstanding on what the counterspell did since Alias said create 4 treasures (46:30) (taking into account the doubling season). Even with that rules mistake, it was a super fun game to watch! Thanks for the content!

    I did the math and even -4 cats Joe would have still had enough to win. Chase would block 2 of the 13 cats, take 22 and get shot for 1 by the ones that were blocked and gone to 1. Joe then would have had 15 creatures vs. 12 life which lets him machine gun Oliva and Chase for the W.

    Power level discrepancy just happens in EDH sometimes. I'm curious about the split card: 'Commit//Memory', after casting the 'Commit' side, the 'Memory' side doesn't exist until it leaves the stack, and should have moved to the graveyard without the ability to cast the 'Memory' side.

  • @xkspam

    @xkspam

    2 жыл бұрын

    The Memory Side of [Commit//Memory] has an ability called Aftermath that allows it to be cast from the graveyard. There are a few different kinds of split cards (the other similar kind having the Fuse ability) so it's always good to look them up and check. [702.127a] Aftermath is an ability found on some split cards (see rule 709, “Split Cards”). It represents three static abilities. “Aftermath” means “You may cast this half of this split card from your graveyard,” “This half of this split card can’t be cast from any zone other than a graveyard,” and “If this spell was cast from a graveyard, exile it instead of putting it anywhere else any time it would leave the stack.”

    I completely understand not knowing this as it's a complicated rules interaction, but Growing Rites doesn't trigger unless you have 4 creatures and the trigger doesn't resolve if you drop under 4. I spat out my drink when Gaea's Cradle hit the board. It's worth more than 1.25x the totality of the other decks at the table. So I got curious and looked. Joe's deck is almost 6x the price to purchase of all the other decks combined. I am of the opinion that match ups like this shouldn't happen in an EDH game. Now I know that price doesn't always dictate power, but conversations should have been had before the game started. If they did and it was agreed that this was OK then I don't think this is a show I'll continue to watch, which is too bad because I've really enjoyed the ride thus far.

    @@blackneto_ But that can be a good topic to talk about, why does it feel unfair for some players (in this case some viewers) if the price gab is big? The one reason i think may be most valid is: to have a bigger cardpool to optimise the deck. Mostly cause some old cards are good, pricey and never reprinted. But first i didnt hear a lot of good reasons and second i might be a cornercase cause my groups allow proxy so i dont have that issue😁

    Gonna chime in here with the others, I love your show and how it sets an example for the format, but this episode is a stinker in that regard. Everybody knows Joe can build powerful tuned decks and play them well, but would've been cool to see all players with similarly powered decks. Just not fun to watch and I imagine not fun to play. It takes skill to play precons well and to me that's more of a win than wrecking a pod with a powerful deck.

    Love your channel and your EDH-games. This game was also a lot fun to watch in my opinion. Yeah, the fact, that Joe had - in terms of money - an unequal deck seems to be a little bit unfair. But the fact, that this inequality was mainly in the land base it´s okay for me. I mean for example a taiga is lot more worth than most other lands but it doesn´t win you games. Also Mana Crypt is a great accelerator and your board state can skyrocket fast. But especially in a multiplayer-format like EDH when you advance the most you will be target no. 1 :) I think the main point is, that you all had fun this round and that seems to be the case. Wish Joe comes back in the future.

    Its amusing to see the "power level" comments. 1. Its not like they didn't talk prior to game play. They where well aware of what was on deck I'm sure. 2. There was some clear indications in the vid that the precons where being put to the test so to speak. It was fun to see that just because a deck is valuable doesn't mean it'll just decimate everything else. Yeah in the end it won but there where some back and forth prior. Great vid keep em coming...
