Gary Coleman was one of the cutest kids on TV. Diff'rent Strokes was one of my favorites. I remember Robert Guillaume from "Benson!" He was in lots of things but I remember Benson like it was yesterday! He played the Butler. I miss the early 80s. I really do. These were great days in TV. Good movies for kids everywhere.

There was really no villain in this movie. (Like "The Judge" in "The Natural.") The ups and downs of a single-parent father raising his eleven year old son, who is suddenly thrust into the spotlight and the hearts of millions of baseball fans across the country. The climax of the movie where the aging veteran Pete Sloane (Gary Collins) blasts a three-run walk-off home run to seal the World Series Championship for this fictional San Diego Padres ballclub, was brilliant.

The social worker was the villain. She was determined to take everything in the worst way possible from the very beginning, immediately began working to take the kid from a 5min visit without even speaking to the father or getting any facts, and ignoring all the evidence she was wrong. My only issue with the movie was the fact that they let her completely flip her character at the last second so she wouldn't look so bad.

LOVE THIS MOVIE! But seeing it as an adult, part of the plotline makes no sense. JR was taken away by social services NOT because the dad wasn't wealthy enough to afford him. He was taken away because of Cooper's drinking problem AND because his job left JR alone for a lot of the time as well as worry for his education. So him becoming manager of SD makes no difference. It doesn't fix the drinking and maybe makes that worse. As for the other part, now his dad will be on the road for more than half the year. No one will be there to take care of JR, and it isn't like he can travel w his dad! Spring training start in early February and the season goes straight through October. So how are ANY of the concerns Mary had solved by him becoming manager of the Padres? Sure maybe he can now afford help for when he is away, but still seems far fetched. But like I said, I STILL LOVE THIS MOVIE!

If the father stops and builds up customer relationships with people they come back again againif the manager had any get Scentsy would have minded his own business and actually took advantage of that maybe send out a free pack of peanuts every now and then wouldn't that make you come back and when you come back of course you have to eat small-minded people too small-minded things

The father wasn't "watching" the games for fun, he was ANALYZING the games which was his talent. Then he shared his analysis and plays with his son who helped the Padres win games.

There is always some nosey "Karen" meddling in other people's affairs. I know it's good to look out for kids, but all she had to do was meet the father and even see if there's anything she could do to help a man down on his luck. *_The foster care system is NOT all that Safe for kids... often times NO LOVE at all and many get hurt & sexually abuse in those strangers' home._*
