Hi friends happy Monday!
I hope you are having a good day so far, today I wanted to talk about this highly recommended story, seriously it's asked about every day. Haha. I thought I knew the whole shebang but turns out I sure did not! Such awful, terrible people, and I believe Karla got off way too easy! I Would love to hear your thoughts down below. I hope you have a wonderful rest of your day ahead and I hope to be seeing you very soon. Love and appreciate you so much!!

I love true crime and makeup so this series is perfect for me. Ever since I was a little kid I tried to see what could be in peoples hearts and minds to do such evil things,I was 6 on 9/11 and somewhere between 7 in first grade to 11 in 5th grade I’d watch documentaries of it every year still not able to comprehend it (I know the motive but never understood it).

I had an encounter with Paul Bernardo right before he was caught when I was 16. My mom and I were waiting for the GO train (commuter train) to pick up my sister. As we waited in the parking lot a man walked by our car. Both of us instinctively locked our doors. We looked at each other, commented on what made us so uncomfortable at the same time. As he went past he looked as normal as could be. Before we could say more, another man appeared behind us, trying to look natural, but he was on high alert. The first man was very clean cut, the second a bit scruffy. We spoke about why we both felt very off, that their energy was the opposite of their outer looks. We learned the next day that he had been arrested. It turned out that the first one was Paul Bernardo, the second was a cop tailing him. I couldn’t have learned a more valuable lesson about trusting your instincts.

@Jenn Hamilton Interesting thought, but I’m fairly certain it was a cop, the two weren’t ‘together’. He was arrested the next day, maybe two days later. They said that they had had him under surveillance for a while. Usually my sister walked home from the train station. We picked her up because everybody knew of the missing girls. The cops had announced that they had a prime suspect (I think they were hoping he’d panic and lead them to evidence), but they hadn’t released a name. They had a sketch, much earlier, but he was too generic looking for it to help much.

The friends girlfriend made him talk to the police too even if he was unwilling, so the friends girlfriend is the one to thank and Paul’s ex girlfriend even spoke up when she saw the photos but the police shrugged her off. This could of been avoided if they would of taken the ex girlfriend claims seriously.

Here’s another story to add to the “trust your instincts” pile: there was this older teenager in my neighborhood who was interested in me and my family ostensibly bc we had animals and he wanted farm work experience. For a couple weeks he would help my mom getting hay, feeding, easy chores, etc. one day I opened the door when I was home alone and there this guy was, asking to come in and talk to my mom. I told him she wasn’t home and he kinda smiled creepy at me and asked if he could come in, I said no we could wait out front on the porch. He looked disappointed but we chatted. Eventually, out of the blue, he complimented me on the smell of my skin as I had just applied lotion, and said I “smelled like a sugar cookie” and he wanted to “just eat me up”. Keep in mind I was probably 8-10 years younger than him. I immediately felt uncomfortable and told him I had chores to do inside and he could wait alone. I locked that door so fast. I told my mom everything and after that day I heard her kinda shout him down when he came back later that week for more work, and he never came back around again. It’s sometimes scary to think what could have happened if I let him in my house when I was alone. Later I also found out our farm dog would growl at him whenever he was at the farm or try to ger near the dog, wouldn’t let the guy pat him… nothing. That dog was the sweetest dog on the planet and I never saw him growl before or after. Also apparently this dude tried to get in on the younger kids friend group in the neighborhood by playing video games with one of my younger dude friends and this teenager would make lewd comments about me to this other young friend of mine. Soooooo yikes.

I’ve always told my daughter (single mom here) she’s 13 now but when she was little I would quiz her if a stranger approached her right?! And I always told her this: if they say anything like “I’m friends with ur mom” , “I work with your mom” blah blah you get it but she will say “my mom has no friends” PERIOD. My kid knows our circle and that’s that.

It was a few years later when him and Karla were caught she realized how lucky she was. Also, you're doing OK with the pronunciation of Scarborough (Scar-burrow)
