The price of honor. The power of friendship. THE KARATE KID, Part II. Ralph Macchio and Noriyuki "Pat" Morita re-create the roles that brought them international acclaim in The Karate Kid. Karate student, Daniel Larusso (Macchio), accompanies his wise and whimsical teacher, Mr. Miyagi (Morita), to his ancestral home in Okinawa. For the boy, it's a journey to an exotic new world offering new clues to his mentor's secret past. For Miyagi, it's an opportunity to see his father one last time and tore kindle a romance with his childhood sweetheart (Nobu McCarthy). But Miyagi's return also re-ignites a bitter feud with long-time enemy, Sato (Danny Kamekona) - a feud that involves young Daniel in a brilliant collision of cultures and combat. Now, far away from the tournaments, the cheering crowds and the safety of home, Daniel will face his greatest challenge ever when teacher becomes student and the price of honor is life itself.

He seemed genuine when he apologized. (especially because there was stuff we saw him admit about his past that Daniel did not.) While he is currently being a nut, you can argue that its Kreese bringing it out of him and he just !SPOILERS!: expelled his weakness. Maybe silver wants to make a difference, but he has to go through a nut phase in order to give us another season. I could see at the end of this season (assuming its a final season) that there is going to be some type of reconciliation between the 2 and this scene is going to flashback. Just my 2 cents though. The weird thing is that this scene wasn't even needed in KK2, other than to introduce the 'honk' part. But this scene is crucially important to just about everything related to Cobra Kai. Why Johnny fell out with Kreese, why Kreese went out of business, why Johnny never disrespects Mr. Miyagi, story arcs for Bobby and Tommy, the mystery around Dutch, why Kreese needed to go to Terry Silver in the first place, everything. One can say that if this two-minute segment had not been included, we might never have even had Cobra Kai.

The irony being that it was originally going to be one of the *final* scenes of the first KK movie. But the makers rightly decided it was anticlimactic and so instead wrote it into the sequel. With the vastly inferior Will Smith remake, they did much the same thing - there's a deleted scene featuring a fight between Jackie Chan and the antagonist's master at the end of the tournament. It didn't work there and it wouldn't have worked in the original KK either, but yes, it's a brilliant little scene, ties it into the original, reminds the audience of who is who, and gives us an immediate insight into Miyagi's character - which is crucial since in no small way KK2 is Miyagi's story as much as, if not more than, Daniel's.

RIP Pat, you created a character that will live forever!
I know it's a minor thing, but I love the cinematography, editing, and framing from 1:27 - 1:34. We get our attention focused on the argument by seeing it over Daniel's shoulder through the car window, and then the next shot has Daniel in the same part of the frame, but out of focus, with Miyagi in extreme close up and in focus, which immediately orients us to where he is and who we're now meant to focus on - i.e. Miyagi. And then at 1:38 we get a close shot on Daniel again, with part of the frame blocked by the pillar of the car so we can focus on Daniel's horror and surprise, and then the shot switches back again with Kreese and Johnny in the same part of the frame as Daniel was, closer up and getting more involved with the scene. Just a great piece of film storytelling in five or six shots.

There's a running gag where everyone saves Johnny 1) Kreese choking Johnny --> Gets saved by Miyagi 2) Daniel crane kicking Johnny in the face, thus ruining his life --> Gets saved by Miguel 3) The Karen who got Johnny fired for "bitching" at him --> Gets saved by his step dad with a huge check 4) The guy with the gauges at the bar --> Gets saved by the black girl who gives him a beer glass 5) Kreese choking Johnny again --> Gets saved by Daniel 6) Silver almost beating up Johnny --> Gets saved by Kreese 7) Mexican Thor almost pick pocketing Johnny --> Gets saved by Robby 8) MMA fighter putting Johnny in a chokehold --> Gets saved by Robby again 9) Eminem throwing a tornado kick at Johnny --> Gets saved by Chozen 10) Eminem and Bruce Lee almost stabbing Johnny with a Katana --> Gets saved by Mike Barnes

I mean they clearly were not a fan of Kreese after he started choking Johnny out and rightfully so, regardless of Kreese’s sad past, he’s transformed into a psycho that enjoys tormenting and hurting people. Johnny was trained to do that but he generally knows right from wrong and has showed that he’s a genuinely good person just a bit rough around the edges. Season 4 of Cobra Kai is gonna be super interesting to watch how Johnny and Daniel work to bring Cobra Kai and Kreese and Terry Silvers down.

Nice to be able to pause the scene to see the wide shot of Kreese on the ground, with Johnny sitting on the curb dejectedly staring at Kreese. The fact that it was the last shot of Johnny in the films leads into the series pretty well.
You can just see when Miyagi decided "Oh I've had enough of this guy."
Gotta love Miyagi’s intensity and anger when he echoes Kreese’s motto. I’ve always had the feeling that he was, at least for a moment, tempted to end Kreese then and there because of how evil a person Kreese was. But, in the end, he chose mercy.

What a lovely guy Pat Marita was. RIP Sir 🙏
The brilliance of the second punch into the window is so good and such a great reminder of blinding anger can be. Kreese tries to punch Miyagi the first time who, without even thinking about it, sidesteps and Kreese punches the first window. He pulls his bloody hand out and then makes eye contact with Miyagi who stands in front of the other car and doesn’t move. But Kreese doesn’t even see that, because he doesn’t care, he is so angry all he sees is Miyagi and *has* to take him out and fails to do so as he punches the second window. Without raising a finger Miyagi takes out his opponent because his opponent couldn’t think straight. This is probably the greatest scene out of all the movies for this reason.
