It's clear that it means a lot to you and you come across as a sound, likeable bloke, respectful of the places you visit. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication in producing this. What is so cool is that, in S4:E8 “Party Time” of Cobra Kai, Silver surprises Kreese by bringing him back to the original Cobra Kai dojo from the 1985 Karate Kid movie. He said “It’s been a long time since this place has been a dojo. They’re putting it up for sale. I think it was a candle shop.” 😲 I was excited and in awe when you mentioned at 11:02 that the original Cobra Kai dojo location is actually a candle shop! 😮

    That "grain" in the old movies that you speak of is one of many things that made the 80s films so special. They simply cant replicate it today no matter how hard they try. And karate kid is one of my favorite movies, so thanks for taking us back to all the filming locations.

    I’m in Sydney, Australia and was lucky enough to visit the apartment when I was there in 2019. So surreal seeing something like that up close when it’s been part of a film you adore for so long. We were able to get inside through the side gate as a young couple was exiting at the moment we got there. They let us in happily and said they get asked several times a week but they enjoy that people love it so much. Great video!

    Mr. Miyagi's apartment was constructed where the first 3 parking spots are (leaving only 2, one of which Daniel's mom parks in). The entrance to Miyagi's apartment was where the white van is parked. The gated off walkway was still a walkway (although not gated) in the movie. Daniel walks down it when he is first looking for Miyagi.

    Whenever I see how much things have changed since the 80's, I feel extremely sad inside. It's everything, too. Last year I was doing a video tour of the day camp I went to back in the late 80s and early 90s. I actually filmed the swimming pool, and noticed that there is no more deep end. Deep ends and diving boards are a thing of the past. Girls join boy scouts now, and people txt instead of holding conversations. I find myself lost in this new modern world, and generally just surround myself with 80s and 90s pop culture. It's the only place I feel alive anymore. Good video, Mr Grimmlifecollective.

    Another thing I like about film making in the 80s is they used both the inside and outside of buildings instead of just using the exterior and something else for the interior

  • @chuckfan1

    @chuckfan1

    3 ай бұрын

    Umm not really For almost all locations that are homes, the interior is almost always a set. Typically one of the only times they will use a homes interior if it's the pilot. If the show gets picked up, they will then film all that on a set. With the set "house interior" modeled after the real life home, with slight modifications Nothings changed as far as homes And again, nothing has changed as far as buildings , schools etc. Since those locations are typically unique, to the productions requirements they will film inside , as in Karate Kid, the championship Or, with schools, a lot of times they will use the exterior of one school and the interior of another, for the same school Example of this would be Grease. And yes, I work in Locations in the biz

    Many years ago when I was still living with my folks, we took a family vacation to Cali. We were just cruising down the street and I saw Golf N Stuff and recognized it from the movie. So I told my dad to pull over so I could take some pics. This was just a few years after it was released. And the water slide was still there. It's so weird to be traveling and then all of a sudden realize that you are amongst the scenery of a classic movie without even intentionally trying to be there. We were driving through Astoria, Oregon one time years back and I didnt at the time know that much of the Goonies was filmed in Astoria. So I was looking around, and I began to recognize the area. I was thinking, "this place looks really familiar". And then I realized that I was right there in the "Goondocks". Now that was surreal. :)

It was soo expensive to play in that arcade, but it was definitely worth visiting. I always wanted to ride the water slide but it was closed each time I went. I guess that's a good thing though, I heard that there were a lot of accidents and a few fatalities on that slide, which is probably why they had to take it down. I did get to go on the bumper boats eventually and that was AMAZING! I appreciate your appreciation of all the locations you visit, thanks for doing what you do. It is so enjoyable to watch.

    Great video, once again!! Love this movie and your video, you two!! You're right - so much has, naturally, changed since 1984, but the way you two have interspersed actual movie scenes really helps establish how the shots looked from then to today!! Just awesome and so much fun to have these nostalgic trips down memory lane!! Thanks again for sharing!!!

    Miyagi didn't live in the apartment building. He just had his workshop there, since he was the super. But his house was where the dojo was. Also, the entry to the workshop wasn't the side entrance to the building, that is clear in the images, the entrance to the building is still visible in the movie and is even used during the filming.

    I always thought he might be cooking meth back there and selling it to the highschool kids. Thats why he had Danniel sign up for that Karate tourney. Miyaga was selling product at all these Karate tournaments. It wasn't very clear in the script but I think this is a very likely sub plot to the movie.

    You are making me feel so nostalgic. I was in Morningside Elementary when the school front steps were used for Carrie (the orignal - I'm old) and all us kids got to sit out front on the grass and watch filming. Maybe you can do a segment on Carrie locations, even the location for a Carrie knock off filmed in NC if you get to NC 😀 I'll seve as tour guide for you and Jessica 😀

    Hey Michael and Jessica you do a great job on your "filming location" videos. I love the way you line up the shots in illustrating to me, the viewer, a then and now perspective. Also, your video clips from the original movies have a good picture quality, I like it. And Michael I think it is great that you love your wife, Jessica, and enjoy being with her on your adventures. Great Channel!!! Thanks!

    I've lost count how many times I've watched that wonderful movie. I like it because shows the true side of Karate. Yes it is a form of defence but the true side is sprite and only useing it when you have too. I'll have to look through my subs and there's a channel that teaches self defence or you can look though my subs and find it. I've had 14 yrs Judo/Karate, & 26 yrs in the Army. It was funny when I had to go do the self defence course in basic training. There was a Drill Sargent with an attitude 😃😂😁 I let him throw me a few times & I acted 'stupid' duh....Of course Drill 'boy' screamed at me even after I told him not too, he kept doing it so I wiped the floor with him, not bragging, I did it in a way to teach him a lesson. Of course he didn't take the hint & when he came with his stick thingie I broke it in half and said to never yell at me again. He never did, neighter did the other Drills. If they did I didn't shoot & hit anything. I was a Drill Sargent for 7 years and NEVER screamed or yelled at my troopies, and I treated them with respect, which in turn I got back, and it always paid off. No body messed with them or they messed with me and I loved everyone of them. They knew self defence after they got out of basic but they knew the sprite side of it too. Thank you for the video. You showed the sprite side of Karate. Only use it if there is no other way to go. 🤘👻💖

    This was so well put together, and not in an offensive 'know it all' kind of way. I saw Karate kid as a teenager (49 now) and it was great to see so many recognisable spots from the movie, with your assistance of course. You are both such fun and genuinley likable people it was so lovely spending this time with you both. And that is just what it felt like, hanging out with friends. On another note, my god are you two couples goals or what!?!?! Spectacular work all round. New subscriber from South Australia. 😉 (My brother wanted to be one of the skeletons for years as well)

We watched them film all of it from Saticoy St. We used to play around on our own bikes and motor bikes in that field countless times.
