The Search is back...
It’s not often a World Title contender goes on The Search mid-season. But, when Mick Fanning let Gabriel Medina know where he was heading with Mason Ho, it was too good for Gabby to pass up. Medina adjusted his plans, slid into the mission, and shifted gears to hunt some wild slabs in the wildly remote coasts of Australia.
This was no luxury trip either. The crew stayed in vermin-infested cabins in the middle of nowhere and survived off two-minute noodles and sausages in bread for dinner. Medina ate nothing but cheese sandwiches for most meals. Mason Ho even woke up one morning to find his toothbrush had been totally devastated by rats. Despite these challenges, the surfers had an incredible time. It’s what The Search is all about.
“That was the stuff I dream of,” says Mason Ho about the trip. “I couldn’t believe, not one person around or out. Then surfing with those two guys, they’re not only surfing world champions, they’re like human world champions too.”

I'm a JJF stan (Hawaii born and raised). But between this vid and seeing his struggles as documented in "Make or Break", I have grown to like and admire Gabe so much more than just a talented rival to John.

He was nice Gab, the big fella Owen & Kita and Kids and I mist my old Cousin Conna & Sarah and Connas Cats Mist Conna at Christmas 😭 sharing Cats going 💯💯 play in Christmas Trees 🥰 Paantharr Neva had a Tree we nearly did we often Worked Christmas or cried and or nearly died of loneliness and no culture plus of heartbreak of such I growled re I'm so hurt of bullyn to me of win I worked for Rip Curl and supported Bongs and Silver I was nearly bashed locked up Gunna Paantharr going hang out at the Concrete Kellz Built 🤦 I was even surf my firsty at Kellz May Gibbs one day a Surfer use their manners I mist yerrz so much Gunna Paantharr didn't 😢

Didn't help I was gun shy of violence He's a awesome Athlete. Was cool to see him Surf Nature. Ppl shouldn't be jealous of Black Ppl whom are harmless 😁 and or any Surfer whom is harmless 🥰

Gabe is the only surfer who manages to control his surfboard that well. It never moves anywhere he doesnt want it to go and if he wants to hold his line, the board literally doesnt move anywhere. Freakish ability
Gabe and mick are just on another level, another sick search trip for the books, can’t wait for the next one
Great surfers and incredible music too. Sad that Mason had to miss out on some of those waves because of his injuries. But what a cool dude to have on the team. Loved seeing Mick being the quiet leader, and Gabe being free.
So good to see Gabby looking happy after everything hes been through.

The search provides yet again! Editing and music scoring is on point. One of the few surf films that I watched without wanting to skip some sections. And mick, gabe, and mase's combo is perfection 👌🏼

Aside from from Dane and Mickey's edits, I always struggle to watch a surf vid from beginning to end. But this was perfect. Incredible surfing, great tunes, editing and grading. Props to the directors. Please more of this!

You said it. I mean hot damn, surfing hasn't lost any of the edge. So much style. I'm glad we at least get this with Mick and some other films (Stab in the Dark a year or two ago).

I hated Gabe in 2011-2014. Couldn't stand him!! (Like most non brazzo surf fans then) And in the years since he has truly won me over. He is a true champion x3 and one of the greatest to ever do it! It . I can admit when i am wrong. He is a true charger it has been a privilege to watch him grow into a man. Here's to 3 more Gabe! Blessings from a gringo living in Costa Rica and El Salvador
