The JUNGLES of Arizona

August 8th, 2023: Where water falls from the sky and where it runs over the earth, Arizona becomes another country. Lush pockets of jungle-like vegetation thrive, cutting up the otherwise arid landscape into islands of sanctuary. In the moisture-trapping highlands of the Mogollon Rim, apple and fir trees soak in the steady monsoon rain. In the sunny lowland savannas, perennial streams like West Clear Creek nourish large hardwoods, like the Arizona sycamore.

Love the Verde. My best friend used to have a ranch near Long Valley just north of the rim itself. It’s really beautiful country.

I lived in AZ from 1995 to 2000 and explored with my jeep all but the north west part. Arizona is the most beautiful state in the US to me and it captured my heart.

Back in 2008 a grad school friend and I went on a two night backpacking trip along the Mogollon rim. He lived in Eager AZ at the time and worked for the Apache Sitgreaves NF at the time. It was the one place where we got lost enough where (not dangerously lost, we slept along a fire road. But we woke up to the sound of a helicopter and heard a quick siren blare and walked 100 yards and saw the car and my friends wife. So not really lost, but we were briefly searched and rescued for!

Woah! You must've not been heard from in time? And I'm assuming it was 100 yards and not 100 years! Lol.

@@roamingbenji Opps! Fixed that. Yes, the ranger vehicle is as about 100 YARDS away. I try to remember to always proofread, but I’ve never truly gotten used to typing on a tiny touch screen. (I’m 43 so I was already over 30 when I got my first touch screen smartphone). We were expected to meet my friend wife at a trailhead of our finishing point to pick us up on our last night but when we didn’t show up that night that’s when she called.
