The Judgment by Franz Kafka | Full Audiobook

Ойын-сауық

This week's Tale is a short story from one of the great figures of 20th century literature, Franz Kafka. "The Judgement" - written originally in German as "Der Urteil" - can also be translated as "The Verdict" and since its publication has defied a single, absolute interpretation. As with all of Kafka's writing, this is a dark tale, infused with a nightmarish quality of feeling out of control. There is indeed a judgement taking place here, but who is being judged, the father or the son?

Kafka's protaganist's always appear to be half done. Never active only passive. Their undoing comes naturally and often their only activity. Well read and thank you.

My theory is that the father doesn’t actually exist, and he is instead a reflection of Georg’s doubts and self hatred, which could have been caused by actual childhood trauma. Real or not real, Kafka does an excellent job writing a manipulative figure and you do a great job narrating it!

As a German who last read this in highschool, I´m so looking forward to enjoying this on my next bus ride! You might want to change "Der Urteil" to "Das Urteil" in the description though ;)

I liked the part where the father imitates Georg's fiancée, and also when she tells him that with friends like his, that Georg should never have gotten engaged.

This shows that the enemy is lot closer than one might suspect! He thought his friend may be uncomfortable with his prosperity of getting married to a girl from a well to do family and here is his own father wishing his son to drawn!!!!

Try not being in your home country in 20 years! And a failure abroad... to fail at home after failure abroad is too much, the chance of not failing back at home so small but the absolute continued failure abroad... I know this all to well, all too well.
