"What's the point of doing something if you're not good at it?" is like the motto of all Smart Kids with Undiagnosed ADHD, even once we get diagnosed.

I'd say the "motto" is connected to shame and social upbringing based on our societal performance pressure. Can't see the direct link to ADHD. But maybe you didn't mean to post ADHD as a cause for this mindf*ck.

"I've been having a lot of fun being bad" I love this and it really resonates with me with trying to learn something new and just allowing myself to go through the process. And seeing how my newfound creativity and style come through as I keep practicing and understanding what I'm doing is the loveliest thing even if the start wasn't as grand as I originally wanted it to be

I once read a quote that was along the lines of "The journey is enough." It's always a nice reminder to me to not only enjoy the final process of something, but the actual creating/frustrating parts, too! I've taken a few pottery courses this past year and dude... it is SO hard! One of my instructors mentioned that Japanese potters spend a year? focused on centering-this also opened my eyes to how much I try and rush to the final product, as opposed to enjoying the process and actively learning and growing along the way. Great video! It was perfect to watch during my evening crochet session :)

thoughts: - the colour of your mask really brings out your eyes!! - I used to take improv classes and perform for many years before the pandemy and one vital lesson I learned was "permission to fail". In fact, we would do exercises where we would purposely be bad on stage and support each/find joy in that. That really carried over into other creative areas of my life. It's so freeing to normalize being "mediocre" like you said! What's more, sharing what you perceive as not your best performance with others contributes to that "permission to fail" - so yeah! thanks for sharing!

actually picked up my pen and also sketch silly things in my tiny sketch book after so long. it turned out alright! except for the cats. the cats turned out very funny looking. Hearing you say "it doesn't need to be grand or something big"(in reference to getting back to art after a while, made me feel very inspired and so i sketched along! and it was fine! it wasn't something big but it was fun :D

This couldn’t be more relatable. Being bad is seen as such a shameful thing and it’s come to really take over my psyche. Even with starting a new job or a new hobby, it’s really difficult for me to exist and be bad at something. Let alone enjoy it. You’re definitely not the only one, and this was a helpful reminder. I need this reminder daily

I am always amazed at how confidently you draw in pen. So impressed. I taught ceramics for two years. I was absolutely trash in highschool, picked it back up in college because I was DETERMINED to be good at it. I loooove seeing other people who had a similar experience to me get hooked on it. Ceramics is so fun. There are so many cool things you can do and make. Sometimes people are wheel people and there are hand building people. Then there’s all the different firing techniques. So. Much. To. Learn. It’s truly a treat. I love working with porcelain white salt or soda firing. Ugh so fucking cool. I’m giving you all the good energy on your ceramics journey. So hyped for you.

Pottery can def be hard but once the basics are figure out it can be very relaxing. being bad at something can actually make an activity more enjoyable since a person usually isnt too worried about the outcome since they know it will be bad, they can just be in the moment, talk to more people or just act like a goof. and yeah its cliche, but the more you do something, he better you get 😝

I love that you're getting into pottery. Your mug is so cute! I love the handle! I didn't think I was good at pottery when I was younger, so I focused on art, but in my adult life, I decided to give it a shot again. It's definitely humbling, but so much fun! I can relate so much with trying to shift your mindset about needing to be good at something right off the bat. I'd like to think I'm a lot better at pottery now, but the thing I love about it is there is so much to learn and so much room to grow and it really teaches you embrace the imperfect.💗

Girl, I took TWO QUARTERS of ceramics in college, back to back, and by the end I still sucked at pulling handles and trimming feet. I was a pretty good hand builder/sculptor, but the wheel was sooooo hard and I never *really* got the hang of it. But it was fun! You got good at drawing by doing it a lot, right? Little kid Chey probably did not draw that well, I'm assuming, cause most little kids don't draw that well. But we keep doing it because we love and it's fun, and we get better! I am glad pottery is helping you to overcome your fear of being bad at things. I haven't been drawing much lately cause life has been overwhelming, and I'm getting rusty, but I plan to keep making art for the rest of my life, so I've got time to sort it out. Lovely vlog, thank you for sharing this with us!

I related to this vlog so hard. Being consistent over being "good" is also something that's been on my mind the past year. I'm really glad to see how you're putting that into practice with art and getting outside. Also, my DnD character is totally an Aarokacra too! Her name is Luna. She's a druid and has a pet companion named Chirp - an albino pygmy flying squirrel who she rescued. My favorite part of playing DnD is coming up with little details and imaginative moments, like giving Chirp a little wooden home in my pack carved in the shape of an acorn or volunteering one of my companions to perform a song at the tavern that we come up with on the spot. It's really important to cultivate that kind of playfulness in our lives. Thanks for this wonderful vlog. :)

Also, spell casters is the way (I might've spent 200hrs gaming BG3 instead of arting, so I feel you) xD It was also SO freeing hearing your thoughts on letting go of your own expectations and perfectionism of your art and shifting that to instead just have fun with it - something I'll take with me from here on so thank you!
