hello~✸
In this series, I'm exploring the different tasks from the book "The Artist's Way" by Julia Cameron. For weeks 7, 8, & 9, I made art every single day! I did a lot of drawing, painting, and even started some ring wax carvings. Follow along and join in on the prompts, let me know how it's going for you~ :)

Stopped in my tracks when you said "when we can't do something it really means we won't do it unless we can do it perfectly." That's something I really needed to hear right now.

Maybe you could just draw whatever you see. Like Tiffany said, she draws whatever she wants to. Art is art no matter what it is. Art is personal to you ya know? Hope this helps! 💖😊

i LOVE that you just went out and got the basic supplies to try out jewelry making. the rings you designed and carved turned out so well! also, as a person who is nearly 40, let me assure you that it seems like we’ll NEVER be too old to take creative risks

Just a quick note on the age thing: I remember being your age (says the ancient swamp hag, apparently), and feeling that same resistance to doing new things in case I was doing them "wrong" or taking too many risks. I'd love to say I found a way to make that nagging fear shut up and go sit in a corner while I did all the things, but sadly, I did not, and I let it keep me from doing a lot of things that might have been really good for me, or really fun, at least. The good news is that once you get to be right around fifty...those fears seem to light themselves on fire and disappear like the mirages they are. I've talked to so many creative women of a certain age (ahem...mine), and almost universally, everyone says that there's a point where we just stop caring about the unimportant nonsense. We don't care if it's a risk, and we know that we'll regret the things we didn't do more than the things we did. We don't care what other people might think; we're not doing it for them anyway. We're not worried about wasting time or materials, because we've seen over and over again that even the failed experiments give us new ways of thinking or new things we've learned along the way. It doesn't help you much NOW, obviously, but when those thoughts hit you, I hope you'll remember that one day, when you're a crotchety old fart like us, all those things that you feel are holding you back are going to go the way of the dodo. Hopefully, even if they're too big to overcome right now, you'll know there really is a light at the end of the tunnel, so just keep going. :)

You’re such an inspiration to me. I’m 34 and have often began to feel like, “I’m too old to be drawing such-and-such…” My step son and my daughter are a huge inspiration to me. Both creative and both gamers. I have recently been able to tap into my inner child again and have been drawing all of the first gen Pokémon again and I’m loving it. It’s inspiring my kids to be creative as well. They get bummed about not being “as good as me,” but I told them that it took me 20+ years of practice to get to where I’m at. To keep going. Do 👏🏻 not 👏🏻 stop 👏🏻 And it is a reminder for me as well. Major kudos to my new husband as well for being so supportive of my art and creativity. We turned our massive walk in closet into a duel art studio and music studio AND library/reading room. It is amazing and I am so so thankful for his care and support. You are so so right in having a perspective shift about “being thankful for being able to have bad days,” or something in that vein. What a bumbling point of view. I’m so thankful for the algorithm (for once) for recommending your channel to me 🙏🏻 Also. I love your back-to-front art style. I want to give that a try. Colors down first and then added detail with a liner ink pen. ♥️ (Didn’t check for typos because my text screen was jumping around all weird. My apologies if something is weird or wonky in spelling or grammar 😅) Edit: I also watch Gordon Ramsays shows while I art lol That’s so funny and awesome 😄

Hey girl! I live in Vegas too and I’ve been silversmithing out of my apartment here for a few years now. I took a 2 day class at the Bead Jungle taught by a guy who travels through occasionally (I believe his name is Dave Smith🤔) and he teaches you how to make a silver and stone bezel set pendant. That’s how I started out! 🤗❤

Such a calming and inspiring videos! This Artist's Way series helped me find you lovely channel! While, I am not an artist this series is inspiring joy for creativity even if it is just coloring! Morgan Harper Nichols has a quote that says "may you encounter sunrises that sing to you it is not too late for you." So this series is motivating me for goal setting! For example, I could do a 30 day walk challenge including outdoor walks and KZread walking workouts like Grow With Jo. I have been watching different planner and goals videos here on KZread like Mariane Cresp video about her well-being planner ,Tiffany Shelton 12 week Year goal planning videos, JashiiCorrin mental health journal videos with ideas like self-care bingo, and Helen from the channel TheCoffeeMonsterzCO journal and planner videos! Kennedy from the channel Cozy K has cozy hobbies to try videos that would be nice for self-care!

I have come full circle! First time commenting, but this was the first video of yours that I watched when I discovered your work months ago, and it's the one that made me go back and watch your vlogs from the start. It's so funny to see how differently I perceive it now that I have more context but at the same time how nostalgic and lovely it is to catch up to it. This entire series about The Artist Way is so inspiring to me. I have been watching them very slowly to let everything sink in and allow myself to think about all the beautiful messages you're sharing as you went through these steps. Some day I'll do this book on my own as well, you have definitely inspired me to ❤ Thank you for being you, and for creating, and thank you for all that you do!

I’m on week one I can’t decide if I like knowing what’s coming orrr not as I quite like surprises but I also love these videos! Super motivating to stick with it. I was watching tofu goob and she mentioned the book I then looked it up couldn’t decide whether or not to get it and then I came across your video talking about the same thing so had to it felt like a sign (even though I know technology just listens to you) but yeah I just got the kindle version and so far I’m enjoying it and already finding the root of my creative block (or at least part of it) it’s a wonderful realisation and I’m so excited to get to that point where sitting to draw or create just comes naturally. I really miss that part of myself. Really happy for you and that this journey is working for you! Looking forward to watching more of your videos and working along side you💚💚 sending lots of love and inspiration your way ✨✨✨💚💚

This was great, I have fallen out of habit of drawing and painting and need to get back into it. I really liked your art, especially the spread with the animals and the trees. I used to do metalwork in art school and I miss it. I did casting and made things including rings, as well as fabrication with sheets of metal. Some help- there's softer waxes out there that artists use to sculpt detailed things on top of the blue hard wax (the stuff I used was reddish pink or black in color), I think that will help you get more of the detail you're after. Take care ❤

These series are really great. I was wondering if you might try using a heat tool for carving your wax creations? It's really fantastic that you are trying different experiments and exploring your curiosity about jewelrymaking. I did notice that the work you did with markers reminded me of Leigh's work. The difference though is you did the color first, where she would do the linework first. I hope I am not being disparaging to say the work reminds me of Leigh's. She does draw a lot of vintage ceramic pieces. I did enjoy your portraits very much. You have so much control in hand-eye coordination. You don't even lay down a sketch in pencil. I've always admired that about your skill. When you say you want to make art, what do you want to communicate to the world? What themes are important to you *politically*. There is a marked distinction between making art and doing illustration. I feel illustration tends to be more surface and less of a message, or if there is a message, it is topical, like something you would see next to a NYT article. The work serves a specific function to illustrate the topic of the article, or the story in a book. Art on the other hand, communicates on its own and is not depending on the written word to say what it has to say. Art creates a viewer. I personally feel art is more about the human condition, it's more epic and speaks to people across cultures and across time and space. In the scope an artist's work these themes are explored deeply by the artist over time. I don't see these kinds of themes in your work. If you want to do art, then consider what you feel needs to be said, what you feel you have the right to say without censoring yourself. And then in which medium is the best to say it. A suggestion would be to start looking at established artists that you admire. Start going to galleries and seeking out art magazines like Art In America. Try to see what the discussion is and if it resonates at all with you. For example, Sandi Hester (her YT channel is Bits of an Artist's Life) paints the world around her, but her work is not illustration. She is a painter and she is exploring themes that are prosaic. It may not seem political, but it is, because that is what she chooses to paint about and she is exploring these themes deeply over time. The Dutch painters in the 1600s painted women reading letters, which is also prosaic. Consider how Sandi paints, she is capable of drawing very tightly, but she chooses instead to paint loose. That's a part of her "art-politics" message. Anyway, I hope this is a constructive contribution toward your endeavors. Bravo to you Tiffany for your determined efforts to develop and grow. ❤

I love this series. I'm starting my own artist way this week. Today I wrote my first morning pages. I'll be recording myself, too. Don't feel pressured because of your age; you are so young! I am 39 and I still feel that I can change my life and make all the stuff I want

Creating without pressure or expectations is just the best. I also started selling my stuff last year and immediately I felt all the pressure. But in March I went to a weekend long pottery course just because I wanted to. I hadn't done pottery in like 5 years (since school) and obviously I didn't create anything mind blowing or "pretty enough to sell". But oh, man, just being able to free that side of myself and create small cups just for the joy of being able to say "Look! I made a cup! I painted it apple green, where should we put it? What should we use this for?" was like a treat to my inner child. Just creating that safe space for that little child to feel the joy of creation and, by joining them, protect them from the shame I might've also felt when I was like 6 years old and creating. Honestly, please just go to a random course because you want to tap into that craft.- Heal yourself. Remember you're an adult and you can spend money on the joy of creation - instead of "spending money in the materials to create a piece that will be useful to me in some way". (That's just kinda boring. Have fun instead!!)
