This is awesome. We in Guyana followed by the rest of the Caribbean had the second largest shipments of Indians after Mauritius during the Indian indenture system. I am very glad to know of my roots thanks for sharing this.

well done . a very good documentary . mauritians have the brain and the skill to match any nation in the world . Proud to be a mauritian . you have the world in Mauritius in term of the people (asians , chinese, europeans , africans etc, lovely scenery on the plateau it is like Europe and in the west it is like the african safari) , nice weather , nice people speaking the world most commonly spoken language -English , French and other language , - nice houses each one is different from the other except for a few council houses- very easy to go any place . SO WHAT YOU WANT MORE . i know many mauritian will tell me money . My advice work hard educate yourself the world is at the tip of your fingers There is no country in the world where education from primary up to tertiary is free + free school bus . No where ?In singapore , education is not free . PROUD to be a Mauritian . I am telling all these from my experience . I have travelled to 13 countries in the world . Note Mumbai is not Bollywood - johanesburg the most dangerous city in the world , addis Abbaba - misery and poverty same for Nairobi and Kampala , Madagascar .As mauritian we value our family , our friend and neighbours . If you are in a difficulty , there are many helping hands around In Europe , it is very difficult to integrate - I never felt at home . So let pray for GOD to bless MAURITIUS.

That’s probably because not all of us are Indian. I am British-born but both of my parents are 100% creel Mauritian. We look nothing like Indian, we have big lips round noses and curly hair. The originals on the island of Mauritius were creole … Mixed European, African and Indian. Not of Indian Origin, until the 1960s when the British decided to give it to the Indians and creels immigrated to other parts of the world. That’s why now you see most government officials are Indian and a lot of crystals live in the ghetto. But don’t worry. Us creels are coming back… Trust me 💯

You need to watch your mouth rude boy… Because if it wasn’t for the British you would still be stuck in India. For some reason the British favour Indians, and maybe it’s your ability to look after each other and shit on the rest not just in Mauritius but also in other parts of the world such as here in England. But just because you were given these opportunities doesn’t mean you can go around lecturing people about where they come from and what they are about. I can almost guarantee you you couldn’t stand with creels in the streets. You would probably get slapped up, you run off and call the police or go and get all 12 of your brothers and sisters to fight with you and still not win. Indians do have advantages in life and yes I do respect for that but Don’t ever try and portray that with fire talk because we all know where you stand in the pecking order.

its all rubbish. This is not the real mauritius. we did not progress only because of the indians. the africans, chinese and even french colony have contributed to the economy of mauritius. all of us have work together for the betterment of the country. And lastly i am not indian. I am pure mauritian. My ancestors were indians but i was born here. i identify myself of being a mauritian not by my ancestors but by my motherland. my lifestyle is different from indians. So stop calling us indians. we have our own identity and its called 'MAURITIAN'.

Dear Tia Kyle...This Documentary was part of a series and it's intention was to highlight how well people of Indian origin have integrated with the people of the countries they have adopted as their new homeland. It also serves to highlight how they contribute to the country's welfare through their hard work and successful careers. Nowhere does it say that Indians were solely responsible for the development. Every community did it's part. I am glad you identify yourself as a Mauritian because you were born there. However, (as is the case in any country), you will always be genetically identified as a Mauritian of Indian Origin. You can take an Indian out of the country, but you cannot take the country out of the Indian. If a mouse is born in a biscuit tin it doesn't become a biscuit.

Anil Mani i agree with you sir. As you can see, its not only in my case. Here most mauritians refused to be known as indians. Because we want our own entity. its not that we have cut out our indian roots, we are still practicing our religion, following traditions but we have different lifestyle. i am a muslim. And my way of living is different from an indian muslim.

But the fact stated in many of the history journals is that most of these indentured laborers were from the Indian state of Bihar. And here you narrated it as WB. Clarify since it's a matter of historical records.
