The 1977 John Deere 300 garden tractor is 99.9% done and I will sum up this rebuild in this video. I had to wait a couple weeks for parts to come in from the US, as this tractor was not complete from the start. Once I received the parts, I made sure to clean them up, fix them partially and assemble them onto the tractor asap. I know many of you were waiting for this video!
I had a blast rebuilding this JD300 and I almost like it a shade more than the JD317 which I previously rebuilt! There is something very neat about this 1-cylinder Kohler K341AQS engine. I don't know exactly what, but I may still figure out what attracts me.
Unfortunately, the weather is not the greatest for this garden tractor setup, as it only has turf ties and I do not have any winter attachments. I hope I can find a snowblower or possibly a plow-blade for this in the near future.
If this video was helpful, please give it a "thumbs up", comment if you have any questions and consider subscribing.

Thank you, I appreciate it! It's very easy to do and it makes a big statement when you look at the dash. I might cover the customization process in a short video when I do the JD400 dash. Best regards

Nice job! Seems all 300s have that same shake .You know what they say. John Deere made em, Kohler shakes em. Great garden tractors for sure.

Thank you so much! The 317 and 300 shake about the smae amount and I have seen others that shake A LOT! most of the time, the engine mounts are old and they can't handle the vibrantion anymore. That's the first time I heard that quote, but it's 100% correct! Yes, these tractors are very handy and I'm happy to own them. Thank you for your insight! Cheers

Your 300 came out great! Thanks for sharing. Ive got a 314 and a 317. Going to restore the 317 and swap in a Vanguard this spring.

Thank you so much, I appreciate it! It's always a pleasure to be able to share projects with like-minded enthusiasts. Both tractors you have are very nice! The 300 series models are like an all rounder, not too small and not too big. A fair amount of horsepower to get many things done! You will really like your 317 once you convert it. I hope you enjoy the conversion process as well. Best regards

Um....A Vanguard? Really? They're not half the engine a Kohler is. I'm afraid you'll have continuing problem with that engine. But since you posted this a year ago, how did it go?

Nice project, these are great tractors with solid engines. I do think the rims are painted, I don't think JD did the powder coat thing until like 1986 maybe 1987, but I could be mistaken.

Thank you, I enjoyed my time restoring this one for sure! I've since worked on three Kohler engines and they seem to be built very well. That is possible and thank you for your great information! Just by the looks of the rims, they seem to have a durable finish and that is why I mentioned "Powder coating", but I could be wrong too! Best regards

Hi Geoffrey, some parts for this tractor came from a parts 317 I had. If you're need of parts like the ones you mentioned I would recommend looking online. Nowadays there are many parts for sale through Facebook marketplace and other sources. Big parts like this are very expensive from Deere and used parts is really the way to go. I hope this helps. Thank you! It probably looks the same, but this took longer than a factory job. Eithere way I'm really happy to have another John Deere project complete. I source OEM parts for the most and for this rebuild I found parts online from a seller which was parting out a JD300. I will have an upcoming video where I share a breakdown on this garden tractor. I will cover the cost in parts, cost in the rebuild and how long it took me from start to finish. Stay Tuned

Hi Robert, I found part numbers through Weingartz: www.weingartz.com/assembly-diagram/john-deere-parts-lookup/model-300-hydrostatic-tractor-16-hp-k341-aqs-kohler-engine-pc1474-drive-shaft-300-316-s-n-095-000-hydrostatic-tractors/4275-35358-464258 This website is great for parts information along with assembly drawings. Take into consideration that there are two versions of the rear PTO. A solid shaft version and a splined shaft version. I hope this will help you with your search. Regards Andreas

Looks sweet. 300s are my favorite. What paint did you use on the dash(the black not the yellow)? And what paint did you use for the green? Thanks

They sure are nice machines! I like the 300 a bit more than my 317 to be honest. I cleaned the dash with water and soap, painted the outlines, symbols and qords with an oil based marker and once that was dry, I sealed it off with "Dupli Color - Custom Matte Finish" clear coat. This gave the dash a matte finish and I think it looks very nice. If you would like the dash to be more shiny, I would recommend you to use a semi-gloss clear coat. I hope that helps, Best regards

@@chax2004 Thank you for your compliment! I try my best to keep quality machines alive, like this JD garden tractor. It was a different era of manufacturing, but these machines hold value and prove their capability on a daily basis after 40+ years. Thank you once again, Cheers
