Zara Cully was a hella actress well into her 80s! She played Mother Jefferson to the hilt - the absolute Queen of Shade!

I just love mother Jefferson. It's awesome to know that she was born in 1892.

Amazing woman with an amazing career... The oldest of 10 children. Her appearance on The Jeffersons was just the tip of the iceberg. Known as one of the worlds greatest elocutionists in NYC in 1940, Ms. Cully taught acting for 15 years in Florida before moving to Hollywood and accumulating 50 years of acting credits BEFORE appearing on The Jeffersons. And on top of all she accomplished, Ms. Cully married her one and only husband, Mr. James M. Brown Jr, who was 20 years younger, with whom she raised 4 children. Ms. Zara Cully January 26 1892- February 28,1978 Her Image Award from The NAACP was awarded posthumously on June 9th, 1978.

Fabulous actress. By the time she acquired the role of 'Mother' Jefferson, Zara Cully had accumulated a long list of acting credentials spanning a half-century.

I love this episode and I've watched only maybe 10 minutes of it. Mother Jefferson trying so hard to get people's attention when you see so many elderly people struggling to have the same interactions with people how often they're just routinely ignored and pushed away. Our culture needs to respect our elderly people more.and what what do we do to them when they're older we just throw away in nursing homes to die😢😢😢😢😢.

Lol... What Mother Jefferson told Louise about why she fell in the kitchen. She should've mopped the floor, because Louise left the floor greasy. She was the queen of shade.

As much of a pain as Mother Jefferson is, they were terribly rude!

One of my favorite shows in the early eighties

Funny in the first few seasons, mother jefferson threw shade at louise and then when she passed and they made Florence a regular, she threw shade at George for the last few seasons. Nice balance.
