I started doing this 2 Christmases ago - it is a game changer! Not only is it beautiful and environmentally sound, but it makes wrapping go SO much faster. It only takes a fraction of the time of traditional wrapping! I go to a lot of thrift stores and anytime I find a pretty piece of fabric (tablecloth, pillowcase, sheet, cloth napkin, etc.) I grab it up and add it to the wrapping fabric box.

Also look in the scarves section to find lots of hair/head/neck scarves!
I didn't know this was a Japanese thing, or there was a name for it - but I started wrapping gifts with quilting fabric so that my quilting friends ended up with two gifts; some cool fabric to use for their quilts and whatever was inside. :D Love the idea, hope it catches on everywhere.
I'm doing this for Christmas. I bought alot of Christmas theme fabric and I love the idea that someday when I am no longer here the fabric could be passed down and be used for gift wrapping on Christmas for my grandkids or great grandkids etc...
I'm thrilled to have stumbled upon this video! Shared with my mother who is equally as excited to learn this beautiful art! My late Slovak grandmother would have loved this as well. Thank you for sharing 💜💖

I had a Slovak grandmother too! She was a wonderfully frugal lady but generous with her loved ones.
Brilliant, versatile and environmentally-friendly idea!
Thank you for teaching beautiful ways to wrap furoshiki🎉
I’ve always loved any form of Japanese art. Whether it’s cloth or paper wrapping, origami and bonsai. This is just beautiful! ❤
so much more appealing than the disposable method
If you’re trying to be eco friendly you don’t even have to buy furoshiki cloths or if you don’t want to buy them. you can also cut squares from thrift store clothes and sheets and hem them. Can still look very cute. I personally love having some cute furoshiki patterns of fruits and stuff AND reusing pretty sheets this way.

Just remember that things like thrift store sheets are for people who can't afford new sheets, blankets etc.
I like the way you present. Very calm and satisfying voice. ❤️
Thank you for sharing this technique, I wished I used this technique for my Christmas presents

Fabulous, we all need more joy and if more wine well why not ... Thanks for sharing this wonderful traditional way of packaging ... Bring it back!
The most beautiful and relaxing than I see before
I used to wrap the grandkids xmas presents in a new beach towel for them ... I guess I was doing furoshiki too. Dang I think I stopped doing that over Covid ... youve reminded me to start that again lol.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge of wrapping with fabric, I love this idea and hope to use it for Christmas giving this year.

Great idea and good for our planet.
What a sweet voice you have ! 🧡💗
I love this! You are fast, so I will have to order the book. 🤣
Thankyou ❤
I came here because I watched Maruko, it seemed very interesting ❤
What a wonderfully sustainable way to wrap gifts, and the cloth can be used afterwards as a scarf, a tied up bag, etc. I once tried being sustainable by reusing good condition tissue paper as gift stuffing, but some people took offense at it.😒

Anyone who takes offense is thinking more of himself/herself than he/she is thinking of our precious planet. Anything that can be re-used should be re-used.

I see a Puertorrican Cuatro in the background behind you. I am a Puertorrican living in Japan. I’m curious. How did you get it? By the way, love the video. Thanks for sharing.

could you add measurements please
Is there a way to make a backpack or a single sling pack to put over your shoulder and across your back??
@Joy21090

Yes! Most books on furoshiki will have instructions for a back pack, sling bag or purse. Check your local library.
Hi! I'd like to know how big the fabric shoud be to wrap a thing. Thanks!
